Okay, so I love my PS3 and my Vita, I have put more hours into my PSP than any other console combined. But why do you have to be this way Sony? Yeah, you read that title right. Sony wants to store and use your personal DNA, fingerprints or iris as a DRM measure.

Don't believe me? Here's a couple of sources:

http://www.playstationlifestyle.net...ur-dna-finger-prints-voice-pattern-iris-face/

I love what Sony have done for games in the past and I love their products, I really do. But this is absolutely becoming ridiculous. Seriously Sony, pull your heads out of the ground and realize just how stupid you look.

Just because they are patenting it it doesn't mean that they are going to use it.

Besides it could be something like using your PS-Eye to log in, who knows. I mean, my laptop has a fingerprint scanner and I use it to log in instead of my password as it's faster.
I know, but it sure as hell doesn't win them any brownie points. They just end up looking paranoid about the scary pirates.

Wasn't there a religious belief that foretold people having the mark of the beast inscribed on their hands or foreheads in order to play video games in the future?

Being serious now I doubt parents would be ok with their kids having to give a dna sample to play their video games so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Just got a mental picture of a 'deposit sample' tray built into the PS4.

...

I think I need to shower...
Worst part is you may need to give multiple samples

"...And now for your stool sample, [insert name here]"

Of course, somebody who doesn't know what a stool sample with will end up just cutting up a chair.

So wait...

You're telling me that this hilarious to be true comic from CAD is not so far-fetched after all?

I hope this isn't true because as great of a film that Gataca was, I wouldn't want my finger pricked every time I wanted to access something (especially with my fear of needles and all).

You've got nothing to fear I think, it is much more sanitary and less icky to just force you to use a cotton swab for a saliva sample every time you want to play.

"1. Put your head two inches from your PS4.
2. Open your mouth
3. Wait while the 'Gamer-Swab' is inserted into your mouth cavity and your tonsils swabbed for a saliva sample
4. Do not gag during the above mentioned procedure
5. Enjoy playing your non-pirated Playstation 4 game (nausea will subside within an hour)"

I hope you're right. However, my reference to Gataca and the CAD was not only to illustrate how absurd the extremes are to prevent piracy and identity theft, but that there are always flaws and that any form of security will eventually be exploited and abused. So the extremes are not necessary and consistently updated security measures are all that we need.

Totally giving them a sample of my semen . Eveb if they tell me it's not a valid means , i'll try just for the lols .

Seriously though , No , i will not touch anything that requires my dna for gaming . What if EA somehow get's a hold of it.

Then again , it doesn't HAVE to be mine , just somebodies DNA. Soo ... Time to do some grave digging . Who's got a shovel?

In all dystopian fiction, it is those with the "why wouldn't I be cool with it" mentality who doom everyone else.

With the advances in DNA sequencing, I give it about 10-20 years before this is common practice for a whole load of different machines. Sites like facebook would love to know what genes predispose you to behave in certain ways, and the technology's speed is increasing & cost decreasing.

And then they sell it to insurance agencies, who put up your premium by 100% because you have a 20% higher disposition to cancer than the average man? Am I getting it right?

While yes, it's fucking nuts, I still think of it has some kind of super-sci fi thing you'd see in a movie. Like, a guy picks up his psp and a female voice goes "Please deposit DNA sample here" and after he does it, the thing starts to glow and you hear all these spacey sounds, and after it's done it goes "DNA scanning complete. Welcome *username*"
