This coming from the company that STOLE Nintendos first console and labeled it as their own ( the playstation )

Seriously Sony.....cry me a river because true gamers just do not care about your lies.

Also Nintendo were the first ones to completely alienate their loyal fanbase of 20 or more years and just whore themselves off for $$.
What loyal fanbase?

The 25 million people who stopped buying Nintendo consoles between getting the SNES and not getting the Gamecube, or the people who complain irrationally about Nintendo not making any games for them even though they develop just as many (or more) games from their core franchises as they have at any point in the last 10-15 years?
Clearly it's the people who think that Nintendo are simultaneously abandoning their roots and rereleasing the same games over and over that they always have.

In any case, neither the Wii nor the PS2 brought gaming into the mainstream.

Whoa whoa whoa, stole? Seriously? Is that how you think it?

Nintendo and Sony originally had a plan to provide a CD attachment for the SNES/N64 (I forget which), and they had a contract over it. But later, Nintendo actually decided to read the damn contract and found that it gave Sony too much control over their IPs like Mario and Zelda (as they would be on Sony CDs and such).

Later, on the day they were supposed to announce the CD attachment with the partnership with Sony on E3, instead of the attachment, they announced a partnership with Philips Electronics to make this little beauty [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-i].

Obviously, Sony was outraged. Instead of scrapping the designs, though, they decided to take what they had and modify it more and thus came the dreaded Playstation [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playstation].

You tell me that Nintendo didn't create it's worst enemy at the time.

So...to sum up, Sony tried to steal Mario, Nintendo cut the legs out from under them, and Sony's been butthurt ever since. This explains so much.

Ok yes, I'm being very hyperbolic here, but given the vitriol that Sony fans have been throwing my way ever since I committed the cardinal sin of buying an N64 years before I bought a Playstation, this seems to just answer everything

Well, from my experiences, having non gamer friends, the PS2 is still the machine of choice, the 15-35 age bracket of women, they like Singstar, and they like it enough to buy a PS2 for it.

they don't like it enough to buy a PS3 for it most of the time however.

I think at its base, the Wii is still aimed people who want to play games, the karaoke element of Singstar means its widened out beyond that.

Not knocking Wii at all, just in my personal experience, the PS2 has sold to more non gamers than the wii.

I dunno when people who never picked up a PS2 controller are suddenly playing the Wii, well it tends to make one think. Granted this is only my personal experience at hand and thus is not what everybody's seen.

Oh, don't be such a twisty uh....nisty or something, I dunno. They're both guilty in retrospect. Though Nintendo could have easily reworked the contract instead of coming out of nowhere and outright backstabbing Sony (yes I said backstabbing) the night of their honeymoon announcement.

Nintendo broke that agreement with Sony in a magnificent pubic display of dickery, learn your history kiddo.

Interpret it as you want, but every company does this in every industry. You're simply screening it against your preconceived problem with Sony. And don't even pretend that MS doesn't bash the competition while trying to make themselves look good.
When did I pretend that? Of course MS does that--only they succeed where Sony is full of fail.
This alone proves that you're nothing more then a sad fanboy who will miss alot of cool things in life due to irrational anger. I feel so sorry for you, but since you've proven you're fanboyism I will no longer waste my time arguing with you after this.

Here's a great example:

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=22833
(Microsoft's Greenberg: 'PS3 Business' Is 'Hemorrhaging At Retail')

Gee, no that's not arrogant at all >_>
No, it isn't:

"'That exceeds even the high end of what analysts projected we would do for the month,'he said."

hey--our success exceeds our humble expectations!

"'You can't underestimate that we're half the price of the PS3 at a time when consumers were looking for great value,"

you can't underestimate us, as opposed to you must recognize how awesome we are; and like Barenaked Ladies sang about Leann Rimes, we're all about value--sure the other console is great, but in these unsettled times when everyone is looking for value over style, the 360 comes out on top

http://www.thebigmoney.com/articles/after-fad/2009/07/08/luxe-redux

"'But what we hear from our partners is that it's not just PS3, it's also PS2 down 62 percent year over year, he continued. "With that business declining, and with the PS3 business declining, it's been described to me as hemorrhaging at retail right now, and it just keeps getting worse."

I didn't say it, I just heard it and I'm repeating it

"'What we're finding in our research is that a large portion of the volume we're driving with Xbox 360 purchasers is actually PS2 owners choosing Xbox for the next generation. We're switching people from the PlayStation brand over to the Xbox brand.'"

It's not my opinion--it's our research and therefore sad but true; and besides, people are *switching* over, because everyone's welcome! It's not a bad product, just ours is so much better! In fact, the 360 is the true successor to the PS2 all you PS2 owners!

"we've obviously benefited from having this deep partnership with Capcom,"

Oooh--it's a "deep partnership": they're BFFs! And you can be part of our little Scooby gang if you just buy RE5 on the 360!

Welcome to PR and Marketing 201--if people don't find it arrogant, it's not, no matter how much you bash the competition. Notice how the most confrontational part of that entire article was the title, which was probably written not by anyone from MS but by the author of the piece by taking the MS person's statements out of context?
Hahahaha, jeezus christ this is pathetic. Your spine must be all kinds of fucked up from all that twisting. I'm not even defending Sony here so much as trying to point out that every company does this.

"'But what we hear from our partners is that it's not just PS3, it's also PS2 down 62 percent year over year, he continued. "With that business declining, and with the PS3 business declining, it's been described to me as hemorrhaging at retail right now, and it just keeps getting worse."

This was funniest one of them all. Thanks for the laugh mate!

I have to agree with Facepalm Jesus up there. Since the CD-I, Nintendo has been on thin ice with me.

Oh I know, I just wanted your reaction. I wasn't defending Nintendo (personally if I were in their position I would have renegotiated with Sony. The contract was 8 years old at that point, clearly things could be subject to change over a period of time like that), I was more making a joke explanation for why (to some), Sony seems so determined to one-up Nintendo at any turn, like a vindictive ex who's trying to convince everyone they're totally past it by spending the rest of eternity only focusing on it.

If anyone here needs to take a business class, it's Sony--they seem to have this business model:

Phase 1: Say good things about Sony
Phase 2: ?
Phase 3: Profit

Where "?" is 'say good things in a way that get people to actually buy your product, not in a way that makes them agree with what you are saying, but come to think of you as completely pretentious and arrogant in a way that turns them off from buying your product'.
ok let's look at m$'s style of business

Step 1: lie about your competitor's product
Step 2: pump up your own
Step 3: do a phony and underhanded comparison of your product and the competitor's to make their product look better
Step 4: ???
Step 5: profit

this is something they've done for a LONG time and with MANY products.

sure you can claim only Sony does this but frankly m$ has got this down to a science. look at stuff they say about Linux, Mac, OpenOffice, Sony or frankly anyone that decides to compete against them

as for the Sony comments, they are dead on with this, it was the PS1 that got everyone's attention and then the PS2 was something that everyone wanted
