To release an advertisement for the console in which a guy has 3 friends over to play a 4 player split screen game, the next evening he takes the game to one of the friends houses to play on his console, then again at both of the others house, showing everyone having a great time and generally enjoying the console. The ad should then close with the caption :

Because 4 is better than One.

First off

Second off, this is a fight that Sony can still lose due to consumer ignorance (see *this statement [http://consumerist.com/2013/06/13/microsoft-hopes-publishers-will-provide-more-value-to-consumers-if-xbox-one-games-cant-be-resold/] from Xbox's Chief Marketing Officer when he talks about the backlash MS is receiving. The educated gamer, unfortunately, is the minority and Xbox One's anti-consumer practices is something that Sony needs to hammer home in their ads. They don't need to convince us that this is bullshit; they need to convince the casual gamers.

*If you don't want to go to the link, it's this quote I'm referring to:

"I think it's fair to say there's a segment of consumers at this show in particular who really pay attention, who are very passionate about all aspects of gaming, and that we listen to closely," explains Mehdi. "In a broader set of community, people don't pay attention to a lot of the details. We've seen it in the research, we've seen it in a lot of the data points."

And you'll see it in a lot of angry customers, who are in fact ignorant, of why they can't play your console if they aren't in your list of approved countries, with a persistent internet connection, and after they opted to shell out $100 more than you competitor.

Are you going to have it right there on the box Microsoft? "WARNING! Do not purchase this if you don't have broadband internet. Or if you like to share your games. Or if you get your games used, expecting to be able to play them without an additional fee."

Will Gamestop employees need to be trained to mention all that crap at purchase? I'm sure they will be real keen on educating their customers on the console seeking to put THEIR company out of business.

More likely they will be trained to mention how the PS4 is "$100 cheaper, and lets them enjoy gaming on the go with no internet requirement, game sharing, and the same great prices for used games that they expect from GameStop."

I would imagine there will be a LOT of returns in the XBone's future.

I'd be very interested in THOSE data points come December.

Sony's next move should be announcing Persona 5 exclusive to PS3 and Vita. and not because I just want it, but because it is one of few exclusives that Sony still owns. They can even sponsor and support Atlus now, seeing that Index Corporation is under fraud suspicion and this way make some positive PR.

Sit there and smile smugly?

I don't think they really need to do anything to come off top dog here. More powerful hardware for less money and less bullshit? Winning strategy in my book.

Hell, I think they could damn near do the Coca Cola route. Never mention your competition, they don't even exist. Just feature your own product and draw absolutely no comparisons between the other options, because there aren't any other options.

Currently the Xbone is getting a lot of negative reactions and the PS4 is in turn getting glorified as a result. But is this justified? I worry that at some point Sony is going to come around after the public has stopped caring or has come to peace with the online check requirement and that Sony right now is just playing the long con. Years might go by before they come out with their own mandatory firmware update that would enable this. At that point what are you going to do? Refuse the firmware and don't play new games? Remember when they removed being able to run Linux on the PS3 because of vague security reasons and Sony had to be dragged to court for users to get the functionality back? I hope they learned from that but I doubt it and what if they get away with it because they had the court on their side this time.

I'm thieving that line.

I know this is blatantly obvious, but Sony needs to market the console pretty hard. Flaunt the better hardware for the lower price, and the generosity of PS+ (still annoyed it's mandatory for online gaming, but still).

Sony is going to come around after the public has stopped caring or has come to peace with the online check requirement and that Sony right now is just playing the long con. Years might go by before they come out with their own mandatory firmware update that would enable this.
Everyone like MS before the X1 rumours started flying. Just because gamers love them now doesn't mean they'll turn like vicious animals if Sony tried something like that.

But if they did, I'd say a lot of non-casual gamers would just migrate to PC. I doubt Sony would suffer much for it, considering the majority of people don't care about that sort of stuff.

If Xbone somehow manages to succeed, PS4 probably will have to adopt similar anti-consumer practices in a few years. That's why it's so important that PS4 crush Xbone immediately and totally. Anything less than complete failure for MS allows their ideology to secure a foothold, and at that point it's a snowball rolling downhill. I won't blame Sony if that happens. I'll blame the idiots who bought Xbone.

I think announcing they were kidding and multiplayer is still free would be better.

But yeah, good idea. Right down their alley too apparently, considering that sharing video they did. ^^

I agree with this and disagree at the same time. They are a company, their endgame probably looks the same as Microsoft's. Subscriptions, a reliance on their products and services, and features that benefit publishers. There were rumours of disc-locking for the PS4, and Sony only came out in support of used games once it became the obvious thing to do. And they have essentially sold a straight console and snuck in a paid online requirement in light of Microsoft's atrocity. But if we the consumers show that supporting used games and allowing freedom to resell and loan our games is the profitable thing to do, I think they'll cater to that need. The problem is that if the Xbone bombs, as it should, I'm not sure people are going to be so upstanding once it's a choice between a bad deal and nothing. Because god forbid Nintendo could make a no-nonsense console that people will develop for.
