I notice a lot of people love the batman, what I don't get is why.

I know you, post a thread like this and a million "I don't like it so why should anybody like it" posts pop up. What I am asking is what skills or things he does make him so epic?

Why is he so much better than the actual superhero's or even iron man, at least that guy can fly!

Ok, he can fight but so can a million other none super hero's, he solves crimes but so did Sherlock.

Just as a side note, I haven't watched or read all that many batman things but everything seems to be "drug the civvies" rather than blow em up, whats up with that? I know there are exceptions but on the whole there is more of a drug vibe to me.

Well 2 things come to mind
1) He has no super powers so that makes him instantly relate able
2) He deals with the death in a positive manner by improving his life and the life of others, refusing to wallow in self pity

those 2 things make him a great super hero

Batman has always been a hero of many talents. Apart from being a very capable fighter and detective, he's resourceful and ingenious. It would not be unreasonable to say that Batman has a countermeasure to combat damn near every super-being he's ever encountered, simply from experience and research. Along with his Stark-esque fortune, he has the capabilities to constantly invent new tools and gadgets to improve his chances against his foes.
Can't say I know what you mean by "drug the civvies" though. Where did you get that from?

Now that I think of it, just read some of the books, or watch the 90's animated series. Try reading Batman: Year One, or The Killing Joke. The best way to understand something is through immersion. Even if you end up not liking the Dark Knight, at least you'll have a greater understanding of why.

He doesn't need the superpowers, he is the worlds greatest detective and crime fighter at the same time, and unlike superman Batman is vulnerable to things like bullets, he wins through being smarter than his opponents, oh and he has the greatest cast of villains

I think it's because he doesn't have any powers that makes him awesome to me.
Superman is the most boring hero to me, because he's perfect. Where's the fun in that?
Batman can lose, and does sometimes.

He's got a very large support group as well as a huge rogue's gallery of varying threat level/intentions/evilness. He gets some good writers as he's been a flagship franchise for DC for the longest time. Essentially they give Batman quality because it is profitable to do so, which leads to more fans.

He didn't decide to become a superhero when he discovered he had superpowers.
He didn't decide to become a superhero when he managed to invent a cool robot suit.
He decided to become a superhero because there was so much crime and he wanted to get rid of it.

No, he doesn't have superpowers. But he works out and he uses his brain. Also he can breathe in space. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BatmanCanBreatheInSpace]

I like Batman because a lot of his main villains are actually intelligent and interesting and he defeats them without super powers, all while exhibiting a high moral integrity.

I've just found him to be a little more interesting then say, Superman, who just beats the crap out of people in between being invincible and then suddenly growing weak because of a rock.

I really learned to appreciate Batman because of the Justice League cartoon. He doesn't have any superpowers, yet he compensates by being smarter than the rest. Some of the stupidly powerful enemies even mention that Batman is the only foe they respect, cause he's the only one crazy enough to do whatever it takes to win. I just love Batman because, in every single aspect, he's a damn psychopath himself. The only difference is that his drive is to punish criminals, instead of committing crimes himself.

Easy, the stories written for his character are more interesting than the stories written for other superheroes.

I don't personally like batman because it's a guy who dresses as a bat. I can't relate to the life of a millionaire philanthropist at all. I simply like Batman because whoever writes him and his villains do an excellent job at telling an interesting and entertaining story.

Do this with any other superhero and I'll like them as much as or more than Batman.

Woah woah woah, no no no, stop stop stop.
Read some damn Batman comic books! Batman is fantastic because he isn't superpowered. In the Hush storyline by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee he takes down Superman. He does this because HE'S BATMAN. Batman is prepared, he is a master strategist, the world's greatest detective, trained to the peak of physical and mental health. He is the perfect human being, literally.
You really need to check out some Batman comic books or at least watch Batman Begins; that film does a great job of showing what Bruce Wayne went through to become the Batman.

I'm starting to sound like a raving fanboy but Batman is my favourite comic book character. The Long Halloween is, in my opinion, the greatest comic book story ever told. Check that shit out!

Batman also rules because of the world around him. His rogues gallery is fantastic, the world of Gotham is fascination and all of his relationships and fellow heroes are brilliant.
He has the best collection of storylines in the comic book world because he has so much scope, there's so much you can do with the Batman universe.
That is why Batman rules.

If you think a superhero can only be awesome if he has cool powers then you will be sorely disappointed if you ever check out any DC comics. I could keep ranting like this for hours but I'd better stop now.

I might stop reading this thread because of all the Superman bashing, he's not my favourite character but somehow I'm always leaping to his defense.

I absolutely love Batman, but I've got to disagree that Batman is relatable, only if you just happen to be a billonaire.

I'll quote Grant Morrison here:
We're all Superman in our own adventures. We have our own Fortresses of Solitude we retreat to, with our own special collections of valued stuff, our own super-pets, our own "Bottle Cities" that we feel guilty for neglecting. We have our own peers and rivals and bizarre emotional or moral tangles to deal with... Batman is obviously much cooler, but that's because he's a very energetic and adolescent fantasy character: a handsome billionaire playboy in black leather with a butler at this beck and call, better cars and gadgetry than James Bond, a horde of fetish femme fatales baying around his heels and no boss. That guy's Superman day and night.

Superman grew up baling hay on a farm. He goes to work, for a boss, in an office. He pines after a hard?working gal. Only when he tears off his shirt does that heroic, ideal inner self come to life. That's actually a much more adult fantasy than the one Batman?s peddling but it also makes Superman a little harder to sell.

That is pretty much a super power ...

I have seen a few batman things, like the poorly done cheap power ranger looking thing with the classic "biffs" and I have seen a batman movie or two (not exactly sure, I remember poison Ivy capturing somebody and Mr freeze stealing a big ass crystal or something ... not sure if it was 2 movies or the same one).

No matter what I watch I just comes across as James bond (another thing I hate) with silly suit, wacky enemies and side kick or two.

Personally, I think batman with a spiderman background would a lot more interesting. Some poor kid, with family values, solves crimes. I probably just pissed off about a billion DC nerds who are about to correct the loving hell out of me 'cos they searched for "batman" in google to correct any mistakes to his ... lore? It strikes me as a more interesting concept.

Instead of a billionaire who got that batarang thing right first time, it flew like a bad paper plane or his grappling hook snapped mid ascent making him fall on his ass, maybe a smoke bomb failed and made him look silly as he tried to escape.

A guy who is perfect getting everything right and sounding like a smug douche all the time is boring.

Again, that does happen. In Batman: Year One by Frank Miller he goes up against some common thugs and almost gets himself killed. It's a great story that shows his mistakes and how quick he is to learn from them.
Also the film you describes, with Freeze and Ivy, is Batman & Robin, which is one of the worst films of all time. I'm so sorry you had to see that.
Batman also puts his billionaire status to good use, being a philanthropist.

Why is Batman great? Mr Freeze, Killer Croc, Catman, Deadshot, The Riddler, Zsasz, Clayface, The Joker, The Penguin, KGBeast, Scarecrow, Catwoman, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Bane, Black Mask, Ra's al Ghul, Calendar Man, Dr Hugo Strange, Killer Moth, Killer Moth!, The Mad Hatter, Firefly, Scarface, and the list goes on. I'm not overly fond of Batman, I enjoy some of his stories, especially the manic moustached turn in Dark Knight Returns, but what sets Batman apart is his rogues gallery.

I have seen another batfilm where he was in a temple training or something but while the film was legit (as far as I was told, although thinking back...) it was just dark as fuck and I couldn't tell what was going on, so I stopped watching but it never really hooked me.

Batman and robin didn't seem THAT bad to me, kind of liked bane in it.

I think batman has the best baddies my fav being in my badges (scarecrow is second due to his name) but the actual hero sucks to me, just a douche with cash.

What I want is a Batman game where Bane is portrayed in his real light, not just a retard on super-steroids.

In all actuality, he's on par with Batman in terms of intelligence, and is physically stronger to boot.

Oh, and if you haven't read this book, do so:

Because he's Batman. He carries stuff on his belt. That's what he does. Observe: (major spoilers)
