Ah, Merry Christmas to all the great guys lovely ladies of t' 'Scapist. Hope y'all had fun in your various Christmas rituals. I did... Rrrrrr... So... That PS Vita, ay? Can anyone... Suggest any games?

So, yeah, got my first handheld in ever a couple days ago and... Well, I'm liking it, played NFS, Rayman and that touch-screen riddled gimmick Nathan Drake adventure and while I'm having lots of fun and definitely want to still be messing about on my Vita for as long as I would any other console... I just don't have a clue about what's good. I wanted to but the Resistance Burning Sky or Silent Hill Book of Memories but I couldn't find them and remember being told they were about as fun as having a flaming hedgehog rammed up your urethra...

I digress, I'm wondering if anyone could nudge me in the right direction here, give me something to go on... Please? Did I mention how great and lovely you were collectively? Also that you are all extremely attractive and have my undying (platonic) love? Come on? Please...

If your in to RPGs Persona 4 Golden is great. Even if you've played the original version on PS2 it's a great port plus there's loads of extra stuff been added to it. Gravity Rush is pretty good too, although it's quite short from what I hear.

Persona 4 Golden is good, so is Assassin's Creed III: Liberation. I heard a Monster Hunter title was slated for the Vita but I can't remember. Ninja Gaiden Sigma for Vita is also a good buy. Gravity Rush is an amazing game and I definitely recommend that. Lumines is a good choice for puzzle lovers. There are also several PSP titles available on the PS Store, such as the first three Persona titles.

Try Mortal Kombat. It's basically the same MK, but with a shitload of new stuff. Little Big Planet Vita is also really fun. If you stick to Vita till March, they promised Dead or Alive 5. And, duuh, Persona 4: Golden, best justification for buying Vita.

Gravity rush is worth the money.

I couldn't recommend it enough, it was the first game where after the credits rolled I wanted the sequel announced and then in my hands right then.

Once you get to the second part of the city and the music kicks in the game really shines.

Like what everyone's said, Persona 4 Golden.

One of the best games on the PS2 comes to the Vita IMPROVED, no excuses not to play it.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite should definitely be on your list, as well.

I've been playing the hell out of Persona 4: Golden lately. Best RPG ever.

If you're into fighting games, buy BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend. It's an awesome fighter with beautiful visuals and a healthy sense of humour. It's kind of tough to play, though, but it features a thorough tutorial mode, so all it really takes is practice. It doesn't particularly matter story-wise if you've played the first BlazBlue game, Calamity Trigger; Extend features a retelling of Calamity Trigger's true ending, and not too much of importance happens elsewhere in Calamity Trigger that can't be found out by playing Continuum Shift. And if you're still confused, you can look stuff up online.

Persona 4 Golden and Gravity Rush, as already mentioned.

Your mileage may vary on the following:
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward (Visual Novel with very challenging puzzle section)
LittleBigPlanet Vita (2.5D Platformer)
Basically any fighting game (I prefer them on the handheld for the quick drop-in drop-out matches I can do whenever I get the urge)
Assassin's Creed: Liberation (Assassin's Creed, but on the Vita)
Ragnarok Odyssey (Mission-based Action-RPG with a very unique character-progression system and fairly light on the story elements)

If you have the money to import and are into rhythm games, Japan has at least one Hatsune Miku game...more than likely more than one at this point...also it's a rhythm game so you don't have to worry too much about the language barrier. That's about all I've got at the moment though.

Agree with everything above, but also if you haven't ever played Tactics Ogre: LUCT, that game is amazing and only $20 downloaded from PSN

Actually, depending on your tastes Book of Memories may not be the worst choice. It's definitely a departure from the series' roots, but it's an interesting experiment, and the gameplay is actually kind of fun. The biggest knock I can hang against it is that there is a metric ton of grind involved. If you're into grind, it may not be a bad idea. Check out gameplay videos or something to see.

Look into Persona 4, as mentioned, and if you aren't a PS+ member, now might be the time to jump on that train. Gravity Rush, Jet Set Radio, Mutant Blobs Attack, Wipeout, and Uncharted: Golden Abyss (though you already have that one), were offered for free when the service went live on the handheld, with FF Tactics: War of the Lions, (a PSP title), also on offer. Not sure if those are still free, but the service is a great value regardless.

Someone also mentioned Ragnarok Odyssey, which I would agree with, but if you look at the reviews, the scores vary, so you may want to read into that one before you buy it. Similar to Book of Memories, the playstyle needs to be up your alley for you to really enjoy it.

Also don't be afraid of checking out ports. Games like Mortal Kombat, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus and the Metal Gear Solid Collection play very well on the Vita. Likewise, straight ports with little to no added features, like Need for Speed Most Wanted or any sports game that wind up on the Vita fare very well. I personally just got LEGO Lord of the Rings for Christmas on the Vita, and have already put twelve hours into it. It's pretty much a straight up console experience. (I've noticed a few minor differences between the Vita version and the PS3 demo, but that might just be a difference between demo and final product, not the two different versions),

While there aren't a huge amount of mainstream exclusives on the system yet, there's plenty of ways to get use of it while you're waiting for those to hit. It all depends on where you put your money. Although, for the love of god, don't buy anything on the Vita without checking reviews for it first. I feel sorry for anyone who dropped money on Burning Skies or Black Ops Declassified. The games being riddled with unneeded touchscreen gimmicks or just plain old bugs seems to be a big danger for the system.

Other than that, enjoy! It's definitely a sleek little machine. I thoroughly love mine.
