Gotta say I really enjoyed the first game, and it looks like it's already time for Round 2. Whatcha think? Are you interested in picking this one up?

For some added discussion value, lets reminisce about the first game. What was your "main" hero? Did you prefer spamming energy attacks (like 90% of the other players in the game) or did you go balls-to-the-walls and try a melee build? Looking forward, what sort of things would you be hoping for in this upcoming sequel?

For me, my main was a female Buu named Buubs :)P) and I went - predictably - with energy attacks. Got a lot of work out of Cell's "Perfect Kamehame" and Frieza's "Super Nova" before upgrading to Goku's ultimate Kamehame and Beerus' ball-o-destruction.

Things I'd like to see would be storylines from Dragon Ball, not just DBZ. More races would be nice too. I'd definitely like to see them improve the PVP as the first game suffered from what every 3D DBZ fighter (at least that I've played) has suffered from: the fight comes down to who can out-cheese the other the most...I'm looking at you, Krillin from Raging Blast and your 10 seconds of infinite auto-dodge... >.>

Also it'd be nice to see some incentive to actually go melee. Yeah, the show itself is about firing off massive planet-destroying energy beams more than anything else, but melee in the first game was an absolute waste of time.

I'm one of the weird people who grew up with Dragon Ball, adored Dragon Ball Z, tolerated GT, and then (though still halfway defending the few decent parts in the series up to then) basically turned almost entirely against the bulk of everything else released since. From the drastically different art-style to the hamstringing in of characters and half-handled plots being used to justify them, everything from "Super Saiyan Bardock" on has just been met with increasing apathy / disdain. In this case, I find myself wondering what/how/why Xenoverse 2 justifies itself existing over just being more Xeno-1 DLC. Granted, I'd already been fed-up with the new stuff so much that I'd only ever played Xeno-1 with a friend, rather than buying it myself.

It's such a weird feeling seeing something related to a product that was with you for most of your adult life and finding your opinion towards it to be dripping with negativity.

this *could* just be me, but I'd like it if the damn drop/loot rates weren't so horrific on some items/things, I'd do a damn mission 20 fucking times and not get *anything* besides some stupid capsule I couldn't give a shit about, but then on the 21st time I'd get 3 equips and a move..like what the fuck?!?!

I *adored* the first game for what it was, I just hope they use that same style and amp it up in customization/races, and like you said, maybe make melee more viable if you go a *full* melee build.

So yeah, don't make it quite so grindy, but otherwise I'm all for a second game if they do those things plus add dragonball and other plotlines to it.

I loved the idea of the first game, but felt like they could've changed a lot more with the "alterante timeline" thing towards the latter half of the game, rather than changing less. So I hope they get more crazy this time around. Overall though, I really enjoyed the first game, and am excited for the sequel!

Yeah, I was one of those that went with a melee build, even played a namekian, to make it worse ;P

This could just be from me never having played the first one but my strongest, most immediate thoughts are along the lines of, "We're never getting a sequel to Attack of the Saiyans, are we?" There was a time when Dragon Ball Z made RPGs more than anything and yeah, it's been a long time since the late 80's/early 90's but Attack of the Saiyans was just so damn good...oh well, this is probably just going to be like the original Xenoverse: A game I won't be getting because my internet can't handle online gaming. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Xenoverse was bittersweet.

Positives
The character customisation and exploration of the Majiin and Frieza races was much needed in the universe, I also happened to enjoy playing a story that was more than just replaying the Sagas. There was a good amount of fanservice too with the what ifs and Parallel Quests.

Negatives
The art was lovely, but the animations and engine driven cutscenes were stiff. They also recycled a lot of dialoge, leaving it feeling more stilted than normal.
Then you have the oft bemoaned state of Saiyans. Super Saiyan was just overpowered and when combined with other abilities it left other races feeling secondary.
Then you have the loot system. Parallel Quests giving you absurdly hard objectives isn't a problem, but having loot drops based on those objectives still tied to an RNG is insane.

As far as what I want for Xenoverse 2?

- A complete revision of the way Parallel Quest loot drops.
- Race transformations. Mutations for the Frieza race; Super Namek for Namekians; Unlock Potential and/or Maximum Power (? la Roshi) for Humans and finally absorbtion based transformations for Majin.
- Greater customisation. Broly body types for Saiyans; Kid, Super and Evil variations for Majin. I feel like it's something simple that they really missed in the first games.
- Exploring parallel timelines. The Cell Saga introduced alternate timelines where things were much different, why not really ramp that up? Delve deep into other timelines where characters and worlds are vastly different. The death of Goku was enough to give birth to a completely different Trunks and Gohan, I wanna see more of that.
- More viable builds. Whether it's for PvP or PvE, Super Attacks reigned supreme in Xenoverse. But if you've built a melee-defence focused Namek you should be able to deflect and shrug off some Supers to close in for a brawl.
- More Races? I put a question mark because I'm not sure how that'll go over. Androids are a definite, you could easily customise them enough to differentiate them from humans. But there aren't any other races with enough hard lore, so an option for "Alien" with a variety of customisations would be nice.
- Clothing needs an overhaul. The stats forced your 'class' into certain outfits if you wanted to be effective online. Why not just remove them or simply have slots you can equip statted accessories like sashes, belts, scouters, weighted undershirts etc. Also just lift the colour customisation restrictions. Why do we been eight variations on Goku's gi, when one with some customisation would do.
- Budokai style world exploration. I just want to fly all over the world. It's pretty simple.

All in all I think the series has potential if they actually continue to improve. My history with Dragonball games is spotty. None of them are what I'd call bad, they just tend to be frustratingly average with lots of potential. Ultimate Tenkaichi nailed the customisation and then the combat was total garbage. Meanwhile Raging Blast 2 had so many characters and great animations, but the story mode was awful.

@ Azure-Supernova: Don't forget lack of destructible environments. It's a real shame that maps couldn't be completely devastated. They should have been.

That and more character customization would make me a happy camper.

I am optimistic. Xenoverse 1 was pathetically easy, as none of the bosses or even enemies had any defenses against throw-spamming. The loot system was shit, and progression felt wildly random and unimportant.

Despite that, I am a DBZ fan and if they learn their lessons from the first game then part 2 can be incredible. The first game had a lot of promise and good ideas that just feel short, so hopefully they refine the stuff that need it, tighten up and put more variety into the combat.

I'ma get it. Even if it's bad, I'ma get it, and I'ma beat it.

One thing I forgot to mention in the OP is that I'd like to see a Co-Op Campaign mode in the sequel. Doing those parallel quests with a buddy is all fine and good, but I'd like to be able to play through the story with a friend.

I watched TFS let's play of it, seems to have a lot of potential but becomes "who's numbers is bigger?". Hopefully they'll listen to complaints.

Also it will be cool if we get another TFS member on vote, having Vegeta will be best.
Welcome Back...to the Adventures...OF DUMPLIN!!! xD

Watching them play made me wish I had gone full-on goofy with my character too. That blank, soulless stare when Dumplin looks straight at the camera is truly terrifying. o.o

I liked the first one, but the lack of balance in the combat and awkward controls let it down somewhat. It had the visual style of a Dragonball game, it just didn't play well, so hopefully that can be fixed.

I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of Super content though. I was hoping we'd get to see a taste of Frost, Hit or Champa, instead we're getting Lord Slug and retconned Bardock. Not as exciting to me...

Depends, they'll either have to finally balance out the god damn races or the Super Saiyan hairstyles need to be separate entities from the normal hairstyles.
Preferably both.

Otherwise it's more of a case of them properly refining the gameplay before it turns in to another spamfest

I forgot how thoroughly underwhelming ultimate attacks were. Using a planet crushing ball of Ki should not result in a simple patch of dirt that goes away. I remember using Ultimates in Budokai Tenkaichi, seeing half of the planet being blown up and fading back in to a fully destroyed environment.

A Frieza like Death Balls should leave huge impact craters and super beams should score the earth with huge trenches. It would require a bit of a rework for the controls, but honestly that's another area that could do with some tweaking...

Same here! I can't wait for them to let play it for the glorious return of Dumpling!

Maybe this is just me, but I'd say it was more highly exploitable than easy. I don't usually use throws (I'm not well-versed in fighting games; Super Smash Bros. and Budokai are just about the only franchises I've ever actually managed to get good at), and I found that the balancing in Xenoverse's campaign was all over the place, spiking wildly between disappointingly easy and finger-breaking difficulty at the drop of a hat. I did admittedly make a human, but honestly that shouldn't have that much of an impact in any game that lets you choose between races like Xenoverse does.

So, personally I'd like to see that rectified. I'd also like to see more move variety in the non-super moves. From what I recall, there were only a few different combo strings for each race, and every character of a particular race used the same animations for them. I get that when you've got a roster of so many characters there are going to be some compromises, but it did make things feel a bit more repetitive than even some of the older Dragon Ball Z games.

I enjoyed what I've played of it, got to the Buu saga then just hit a brick wall like most the other big fights but here it just did not let up. Frieza took me several tries and a few added levels, Cell required changing tactics especially the perfect Cell fight with Future trunks, but then I get to the triple Majin Buu with SS3 Goku and....I get blasted to bits while doing next to nothing to them. Several levels later, stat building, training with various masters to get some new techniques and I'm still just being pulverized...or was at least. I made a frieza clan fighter with a heavy focus on speed and meleeing, which like some posts before me indicate that it's a challenge doing such a play style, and I'm tending to believe them. The stunning ki blast helped some but so many of the fights either dodge it or just don't seem to get stunned at all, making trying to zip in for some speedy hits challenging when they block everything.

That small rant aside I did rather like the game, so a sequel has me excited for more. Here's just hoping it's a tiny bit more balanced in my experience with maybe some work on the voices too...some of the acting wasn't the best around, even for video games or DBZ standards.

It won't happen, but I'd like to see a storyline where you have to sabotage the heroes' efforts so they won't screw themselves over later on.
Like making sure Goku dies fighting Raditz so he can learn Kaioken/Spirit Bomb, or killing Gohan in Trunks' future so the kid can unlock Super Saiyan.

Also, yeah. Fix them drops, for serious.
