Sorry you don't look enough like yourself to be in the movie

Considering that a lot of movies trying to cash in on "children's entertainment" go for someone who will look like the character while putting less focus on who can act appropriately for the role, I'm not all that surprised. I mean, Keanu Reeves is playing Spike Spiegel. .o.

Even though Joker was modeled after Seth Green, there ARE a few differences. I mean, Joker's head seems a little more circular. Seth's chin is a little more pointed. It's little things, but I guess I can see where they're coming from. Except they won't find anyone that looks EXACTLY like Joker, so it seems silly.

S'probably just expensive to hire Seth, and the 10-year old kids playing this game (see: M for Mature) won't be smart enough to notice. fsadfasdja I'm bitter.

On one side, they are retarded for this, on the other side, I really don't like Seth Green as an actor.

To be honest, I don't think Seth Green looks all that much like Joker, so I really can't blame them.

What I want to know is why are people interested in a Mass Effect movie, Hollywood has proved time and again that it can't turn games into proper good films. The most interesting parts about Mass Effect is that you can choose what happens and create the interesting scenarios that you want, the film is probably just going to have the most standard and boring choices made.

I'm more concerned the article said the movie would have "A completely new story"...

This movie is going to be bad. Really bad. I must thank them for further killing my interest in it, though. Saves me money and time.

This just confirms it more that the movie is probably going to suck, at least for people who've played the games. How can they even think that a Mass Effect movie, about Shepard would work. I know that I shouldn't judge something before I've seen it but in Mass Effect's case, it's all about the choices you've made, the Shepard and Story you've created. In a movie that's just not possible, so it might not be bad, but I doubt I'd like it as a videogame movie.

A bit silly, but whatever. Mark Hamill doesn't play the Joker in movies either.
Only because he doesn't look the part at all. If Hamill was a slim, creepy-looking dude I could easily imagine someone would have cast him live-action by now.

But this is different. Joker is just a dude. No special appearance necessary, he's just your average run-of-the-mill smartass, but Seth's voice for him is what makes that character what he is.

Ugh, I thought that they were not going to make a movie about Shepard? Or did I just hope and dream about that so vividly that I mistook it for fact? I really don't think this would work at all. Why not make something interesting that draws from other parts of Mass Effect lore? First contact war and humans acceptance into council space? Make a movie about the aliens? Anything but Shepard since half the fanbase will whine about Shepards gender, and then another 1/4 will whine over Shepards paragon or renegade status. And I will whine over how crap it inevitably end up. Just like every single game movie I've seen.

Also, I don't care how Joker looks, it's his voice and how he always has a cheerful tone no matter what is going on. Voice and personality over looks any day. Who can pull that off better than the person who was Jokers actor in the first place?

Hang on, completely new story but it will still focus on Shepard? The hell? When does Shepard find time for a new story in between saving the galaxy and punching reporters in the face?

So wait, you mean to tell me Mass Effect wasn't already a film series with a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure model?

But Jack Nicholson isn't particularly slim, and Heath Ledger is not particularly creepy-looking. Both have played Joker.

And Ledger? Before that movie he wasn't exactly who everyone knows as Joker, but he did a pretty damn good job, wouldn't you agree? I'd say he proves that the same character can be played by a different actor with good results. I wouldn't judge the Mass Effect movie Joker without actually seeing the movie, but I understand your concern.

The voice of Megatron didn't sound like Megatron enough for Micheal Bay.

Have I mentioned my burning hatred for Micheal Bay?

Honestly, the first thing I thought of was Charlie Chaplin failing a Little Tramp character lookalike contest. He didn't even make the finals.

On-topic, I was looking forward to the movie. Keyword being "was". No Seth Green, and an original story with Shepard? Yeah, no. Thanks, but fuck you, directors.

This is true, but may I remind you that those two weren't known for playing the slim, creepy-looking animated Joker. Fact is, most Batman fans who love Hamill for his voice work as the character would be thrown through a loop seeing him actually playing the character in live action. Including me, I'm glad he never did it.

Okay I can't debate this. I accept your position, I just think it's kind of ridiculous that they're not letting Seth Green play the character since in most Mass Effect fans' eyes, Seth Green, for all intents and purposes, is Joker. And it's not like they need someone who looks a particular way. Joker is just a normal-looking dude with a cool beard.

This is how "the" Joker differs from Joker. The Joker needs to look a certain way, and only certain people can do that without looking weird as hell. For example, I don't think Caesar Romero looks right as the Joker. Like, at all. But Joker is just a normal-looking dude, so not letting Seth Green do it on any grounds is kind of dumb.

I think this Mass Effect movie is gonna have much bigger issues than Seth Green not playing Joker.

Like for instance, that it's going to suck balls.

Time to start the online petitions I guess.
You mean the online petitions that NOBODY ANYWHERE WILL GIVE A RAT'S ASS ABOUT?

Yeah, let's do that.

While we're at it, let's say we'll boycott it, then cave anyway, like gamers ALWAYS DO.

Seriously. If you don't like something, you don't have to help fund it. It's simple, really.

Edit: Plus, Seth Green fucking annoys me when I have to watch him act, so I'm perfectly ok with this.
