What I mean by the title is that does anyone know of a brand of keyboards that make no noise when you press the keys? Or anyway to minimize the tapping sound when you press them? I ask because my parents say it keeps them up at night.

Well, my Dell XPS laptop was a rather quiet keyboard, and as for the noise, it has less to do with the keyboard and more to with the force in which you type. Try... relaxing maybe?

Are there not infra red projected keyboards? The only sound is fingertips on desk.

EDIT: Here it is! [http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/discontinued-products/projector-keyboard/index.html]

The answer is obvious, really - become Tony Stark and invent a holographic computer interface like the one seen in Iron Man. Pretty sure there was a keyboard in there. Problem solved!

yay someone else with a XPS laptop

hug me brotha!

OT: I never have issues with my keyboard making noise, possible because the sound is drowned out by my over sized bass amp.

(as for silent typing, the silicon keyboard sounds like what you need)

You could always get Windows 7 and use the voice-to-text dictation feature. But then, you'll probably be yelling at it louder than any keyboard could possibly be.

There are probably a few on Amazon.

I've got a Logitch Wave keyboard, and the keystrokes seem pretty quite compared to my old one. If you want complete silence, there are those projection keyboards where you aren't actually hitting any keys, but they're pretty expensive and not exactly the most responsive.

Why would you not want clicky noises? They're my favorite part of computers. I spent an hour in the computer lab at my school once, trying out the keyboards.

Mine is a normal keyboard and it makes very little noise, barely louder than a pin drop.

Try not typing so hard, I have seen some people abuse/break there keyboard with the force they type with, you wouldn't do it with a pen or pencil.

If your a two finger typer, try placing your finger tips on the keys and wrists on the desk instead of hovering over the keyboard and press the keys instead of jabbing them.

If your already doing this then go for a silicon keyboard.

I'm a pianist and play with a keyboard.
First of all, cut you nails. If you have them too large, they will make the tapping sound. And if yet it doesn't work, you may want to get another keyboard, which hopefully doesn't make the sound. Or better yet! Get a piano.
BTW, apparently you fathers get quite mad easily, as normally a keyboard tapping sound doesn't make so loud noises (that is, if it's a good keyboard, it has been treated nicely and you got it from a good keyboard makers, i.e. Yamaha).

I have the same problem. I type fast and rather loudly. Ive had people complain that it is offputting, distracting, intimadating and down right annoying.

I have no clue. Personally I love the tapping and clicking. Tried looking it up on Amazon or something?
I love the sound of a keyboard as well. Plus it seems like if I'm truly working hard on something, I'll hear the clicking so a silent one would suck.

Ebay probably has something. And if you've thought of it I'm sure it exists out there.

Google'd it and found this:http://gizmodo.com/266953/thankos-silent-keyboard-only-makes-6db

Yeah, it's mainly when I'm on an Instant messenger or Facebook or something that they complain, but I'm getting WoW back and I intend to raid so the keyboard mashing will only get worse then :/.
