I agree, the Inglourious Basterds soundtrack was good. I enjoyed the Watchmen soundtrack a lot.

[HEADING=2]Noir[/HEADING]. One of the most acclaimed aspects of Noir is it's beautiful soundtrack:

As for composer(s).....

[HEADING=1]E.S. Posthumus.[/HEADING] God...their stuff is incredible, and IMO you're bound to have heard at least one of their pieces:

Epic stuff. I like. The fusion of traditional instruments and orchestral stuff with heavy guitars works a treat. :) Kind of like the album S&M by Metallica, where they got San Fransisco Symphony Orchestra to play with them live.

Also, I like the album art. Are they old paintings that they've used on their covers, or new stuff?

Oh the Soundtrack for "The Last Temptation of Christ" by Peter Gabriel of course. Try to get your hands on that one man, it's crazy I tell you.

Howard Shore and his Lord of the Rings soundtrack might sound like the easy way out, but there's my answer.

I don't usually go for movie soundtracks (as I enjoy game soundtracks more) but Hans Zimmer also deserves praise from myself. The Dark Knight wouldn't be as good without that beautiful score. And the Lion King's is great too.

Ditto for Star Trek. I can still hear the baddie's theme...duuun duuuuuuunn...

If I were to choose just the music from anime op it'd be Blood+ third op one. I totally got bored of the first episode of it but just happened to come across that video.
Another that I absolutely love is Ghost in the shell 2nd gig opening, find them one of the best op songs I've ever seen.
About Halo I was pretty into the music just the first weeks but later it wasn't as just as pumping.
Nintendo tracks, especially Zelda, are just pretty much nostalgia.

The first was based on "The inspiration of Saint matthew" :

And I'm not sure about the second, but I imagine it might have a similar past. You know the vocals in their songs? It's not an existing language. They created one to fit the theme. Here's the descrtiption of their second album...

"In 1929, the ancient map "Piri Reis" was discovered in Constantinople. The map is extraordinary because it depicts bays and islands on the Antarctic coast which have been concealed under ice for at least 6,000 years. What civilization was capable of such exploration that long ago? On "Cartographer", we imagine that these explorers were from the tiny island of Numa in the Southern Indian Ocean. As advanced seafarers, they navigated every corner of the Earth. We have created a language unique to them and tell stories through song that describe their creation, discoveries and ultimate demise. This is a 2 CD collection with Vocal and Remix versions of every song. The Remix CD also contains 2 bonus tracks."

I was on Wiki for ages after reading that. That's why I think they're epic. :D

Ah man, I preferred the 1st Gig, I was actually in love with that OP for years.

Hell with it, I'm putting it up, that OP was beautiful.

Wow! Now that is commitment. Gotta love bands who take their interests really far, and combine them with the music, always makes for interesting stuff :D And thanks for the info on the art, I'll check it out.

For most soundtrax, I like some songs more than others. Assasin's Creed and Aion are my favorites; both are lovely throughout.

The artist is Caravaggio: post renaissance. The one with the decapitated head is David after defeating Goliath. Isn't Caravaggio's style incredible? He uses dramatic, theatrical lighting.

Ahh, thanks for the info, I'll have to have a look at more of his paintings, and as you say, they are very dramatic. I'm not usually a fan of religious themed art, but his style is just too awesome :D And David and Goliath eh? That explains it then :D

Hans Zimmer is just f'ing amazing. His score of Batman Begins was awesome. Especially that action-packed bit in "What is Necessary".

Touche. (Dont know how to do the accent thingy)

Ecstasy of Gold is fantastic, but it really is hard to choose a favorite piece of his. I gotta say, it's even better played as an opening theme for a live Metallica show. It pumps you (well me :p) up so much :D
I agree, I've been to see them 3 times. The woman's voice is a bit annoying in the film version.

Awesome! They are truly amazing live. And yeah, I think the lady's voice works well in the film version, but only within the film. If ya listen to it by itself it is kinda annoying, as you said.

As far as TV goes, I would have to give my vote to Death Note and Code Geass, hands down.

Where video games are concerned, FFX. The only soundtrack I've even considered buying.
