I just watched the new episode of south park that i had been looking forward to since the cliffhangers left the week prior, but when the credits rolled on this episode i found myself so extremely disappointed.

The lesser of my disappointment was the fact that Cartmans dad (wont spoil just in case) is dead, so he can have no impact on the development of the show and essentially, nothing changed. (I thought it would have been to perfect for it to have been chef, then he could be in his Vader suit all like "Cartman, I am your father")

The Real disappointment was the fact that throughout the episode they censored the name and image of Muhammad, and the speech about him at the end. The entire time I was expecting them to show him in the end, but that didn't happen. Sure right now ill bet some of your are rearing to fire up at me about how i missed the satire and dont know what I'm talking about, some of you may even state this without even reading this far ha ha. But the fact of the matter is, that by censoring Muhammad for the sake of a satirical poke at the hypocrisy that is freedom of speech, Matt and Trey missed an enormous opportunity to make a statement that would have had more meaning and impact on the world then anything they have ever done or will ever do.

Of course im sure they were strictly forbidden to show him by Comedy and Viacom. But they could have kept there promise of, and I'm paraphrasing "If we dont show Muhammad, then south park will be gone forever", and just stopped making it. I wouldn't like that my favorite show would be gone, they wouldn't like being sued for breaking contract, but they would have had pride and integrity on the way out.

They did not do this, no they bowed down to the same broken system that they have protested against in the past. I have forever lost respect for them as artists, and I fear while I will still take the comedy and joy out of South Park, I will never again take the meaning.

Had the show taken that major turn, it would only have been for the worse. Also, you do realize that Isaac Hayes died, right? He cannot be the voice of Chef any longer.

You did not miss it, I believe you are expecting too much from them though. Seriously, they are not trying to be social commentators. They are just there to make light of serious issues. They don't ever try to make a point, they just try to be funny.

Again, they aren't at all trying to make a point or a stand, they just want to make people laugh.

You have looked way too far into the comedy, past the jokes, and have been searching for meaning in the controversies they portray. Perhaps you should re-watch the "Scroty McBoogerballs" episode.

I laughed my ass off at this episode. And I am certain Cartman's dad and his 'Legacy' to Cartman will affect the plot many episodes to come.

Yeah, Hayes died but the Darth Vader Chef was a different voice.

Because they really needed Isaac to make the Vader voice, do you even watch southpark, do you think that in S10E1 The Return of Chef, Isaac Hayes came back to voice it?

I loved the sheer volume of self-reference. None of it was forced beyond what's usual for South Park, it stated a sane opinion without sacrificing laughs.

Nonetheless, two things disappoint me. Firstly, the absence of crab people. Secondly, they didn't show Hammy. I totally agree with the OP, Matt and Trey are on record, even within the show, as saying either everything must be OK to make fun or or nothing is. Then, with their 201st episode, rather than stand up for that belief they not only backslide before they risk making fun of Hammy, they refuse to even SHOW him.

My attempt to fill the void: http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/6127/muhammedh.png

It was his voice, they used sound clips of him from past episodes.

Is that really the only thing you payed attention to in my post?

I gotta say that I was just getting annoyed by the amount of censorship by the end of it. I know that it was for the sake of satire and what not, but by the end of the show hearing a beep every 15 seconds or so because they could even say the WORD Muhammad was just getting hair-pullingly annoying, especially the "message" speeches that were completely bleeped out.

Maybe I'm just one of those people who finds the censor bleep to actually add humor in certain situations, but in this episode it was just too much to have to hear it so often.

No, Darth Vader voice didn't use clips from previous shows. Chef did in the same episode. They don't need Isaac for Darth Chef's voice.

First off, don't insult me. It makes you look bad.

How am I wrong with my saying that they don't make social commentary? Tell me how they do?

Is it a bad thing that they showed respect to a culture and religion that really doesn't like it when people see its prophet? That even censor it in their own artwork?

I will say I haven't seen the episode yet, but I will say I have more respect for people who could make a joke, but choose not to, then people who make jokes for the sake of it.

Really? The interviews I've seen from them suggest the opposite.
In the DVD commentaries (available on Youtube - "ScottTenormanMustDie" is the channel for some season commentaries) they very often claim that the social commentary is incidental or even accidental. Either Trey or Matt mentioned that as long as Kyle has an "I learned something" speech, an episode about dick jokes can seem to be about any current event.

But they already showed Mohamed in an earlier episode. They even referenced it in 200.

See there he is on the right.

This is the sum of my argument, in fewer words.

Now, I'm sure the more recent episodes which take current events are more intended as political satire, but still, they never, ever try to make a point. They give arguments both ways in every episode and don't take sides.

Here's a recent interview they did for NPR.
