I really like space Dandy, the animation style and humor are a perfect mix. I'm especially fond of the visual design of the show, from Dr. Gel's elaborate getup to the unconventional looking Aloha Oe, everything about the visuals just oozes personality and creativity. The writing and story go hand in hand with it, sometimes an entire episode can amount to literally nothing, but others are full of action. You can never quite tell what's coming next.

It's... Ok. The animation is great, but the humour is a little overblown (and for me that's really saying something) and there's no story. I just couldn't stay interested. Not to mention how much it harps on other popular anime. When an anime has to constantly reference other anime, it kind of says that this anime itself has nothing of value to offer.

I think the title is fitting, if a little off sounding to American ears. In any case I love this show. I used to watch anime as a younger guy but as I grew older, and lets be honest here, got laid, I found that much of it tends to be pretty juvenile stuff. Subsequently there is not much anime I end up likely now days.
Space Dandy is definitely not the same as most other anime I have seen, no repressed, sexually awkward teen boys with super powers, no harem of girls all fighting over the protagonist, etc., just sometimes silly, sometimes emotional, sometimes deep and always funny stories accompanied by beautiful art.
I love the show.

To be honest, I didn't even know Watanabe was connected. I liked it at first because it felt nostalgic, it brought back those memories I got from watching awesome anime on Adult Swim during the era of Cowboy Bebop, now I know why.

I was actually getting a Lupin the 3rd vibe from it more than I was Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo, and I thought certain moments in the series were making fun of Cowboy Bebop in particular, so it turns out it's just Watanabe making fun of himself.

I don't much care for the adventure a week without making an effort to connect the episodes formula and I hope it evolves into something more along the lines of Trigun where it starts out silly, but grows into a much deeper plot, I don't see it happening though.

Despite all that, I like the jokes and the interactions between the characters and those episodes with brief moments of character development like "There's Always Tomorrow, Baby" and "Even Vacuum Cleaners Fall in Love, Baby"
