Hey guys,

I am currently at odds with myself,

I am looking for a space game to play like eve, because at the moment I really want to play eve. It's one game I keep going to back to but I cannot afford it at the moment.

Any Idea's I have X3 at and it's not as good I think

X3 is for super smart cookies, i still can't figure it out. I'll just fly around in my buster shooting down squids till i figure it out.

i dont know that many space games other than RTS games, have you tried Sins of the Solar empire?
how about something old? you can find a lot of cheap old starwars space fighter games very cheap on amazon

again these games ain't much in the vein as X3 or EVE. Doesn't Notch have some space game in the works as well? has an odd name?

The X series and Freelancer are the closest to EVE imo

Also The Jupiter Project is a space RTS that has a EVE feel to it

Theres also the odd quality browser game like that battlestar galatica game.

Ive only played X2 and X3 I would say X2 is better due to the fact the main story is a tad longer, X3 main quest was way too short.

As far as I'm concerned the best space (non strategy) game ever made is Freespace 2, no contest. That said it's also pure action so if you're looking for something more sim-style ala singleplayer EVE then this isn't where you'd want to be looking. As others have said the X series and Freelancer are a bit better in that respect since they've some elements of trade involved.

But as a just straight up actiony space-sim Freespace 2 is about as good as it gets. Available of gog.com too, handy that!

Well, you could always try Space Pirates and Zombies, that's supposed to be quite in-depth and stuff, I've played the demo and it ain't half bad, quite cheap too.

A game I've poured far too much time into would be Escape Velocity: Nova. A great game, kinda old, and a bit of a rip off at £30 on the Ambrosia website, but the enormous modding community will keep you playing until the end of the world.

SPAZ is an awesome little game, difficulty ramps up pretty quick though if you don't concentrate your research.

You could also try Freelancer. Similar to Elite with less depth, still kinda fun and it'll run on anything.

Lastly, it might be worth trying Kerbal Space Program. Not so much a game, more an interactive space program. Design rockets, do launches, make spaceplanes, hell the latest update lets you move your astronauts out the command module and move around the outside of your ship. And float off into space if you don't build ladders for them.

EDIT: Oh, and if you can track down a copy of Homeworld or Homeworld 2 your in for endless shenanigans. More of an RTS but a great, great game.

i've said it before and i will say it again, lucasarts should re-release Tie Fighter.

that would be a shut up and take my money moment for me. and given lucas' penchant for re-releasing things, what is the hang up here?
