Do you remember the day that Space Marines were 12 feet tall, could spit acid, had 4 lungs, at least 2 hearts, carried guns that required complete teams of mere mortals to operate (that were easily held by Space Marines), could kill anything, and occasionally died (in very very short occurrences.

No?

Exactly.

A true Space Marine, a monolith of extreme powers, have become swamped with... wimpy Space Marines.

Space Marines of Warhammer 40k are the peak of Space Marines, to the point of which they are barely even identified as human.

What happened to us? Why have we let scrawnier Space Marines thrived?

Credit to the sites for the pictures, praise the Emperor.

Edit: Ok, Warhammer 40k has been out before Doom or Starship troopers. Warhammer 40k has been out since 1983 and started as a tabletop game. And also about people saying that the WH40k Space Marines not being well equipped, you obviously haven't look into it for very long.

Not saying they are the definition, but definitely saying they were the peak.

EDIT!!!: Orks, they've become wimpier too, and I don't think anyone can really disagree with it, also from the Warhammer 40k series (its full of manly things, go join the universe)

The 40K Space Marine game is shaping up to suck, continuity-wise.
The gun doesn't shoot full-blown rockets, it shoots bullets, and it's supposed to focus on close combat, which space marines simply aren't built for.
But yes, 40K Space marines can be considered the epitome of manliness.(Assuming 'epitome' means what I think it does.)

Space marines existed before Warhammer you know.... They came up with all this stuff about insanely awesome space marines, the originals from Starship troopers were pretty bad ass though. Warhammer wasn't the original so don't compare shit to it.

Short of Warhammer, Halo did a pretty good job of making the space marine (Spartan) something who crushes everything beneath his (not-so) sandaled feet while making it quasi-plausible. Turok and many others, though...
Don't get me started on the relative power of Zerglings and marines in Starcraft.

I have no idea but it's one of the many reasons that i've almost lost complete faith in humanity.

Only to a certain subset of gamers.

The space marine genre is defined by Starship Troopers.

The video-game space marine was originally defined by Doom.

There has got to be something wrong with a super soldier who can get killed by getting run over by a jeep.

Somehow, I'd think you'd want to have a character you could identify with more than a massive hulk of armor. Say what you will about Halo, Master Chief is at least easier to identify with than that.

Enh, fuck Starship Troopers, too. ;)
Old Man's War is the new Starship Troopers.

(While we're at it, 3:16 is the new 40k.)

Eventually, Space Marine will be an insult used towards girly and/or flamboyant men. THIS MUST BE STOPPED.

Haha. Compared to the troopers in Starship Troopers the W40k-SM are wussies. So he can compare the 40k-ones to anything he likes. He can't compare the StarshipTroopers to anything, tho.

Edit for the mentally challenged:
I am NOT talking about the movie, you retards. Common sense alone should jump you in the face for thinking this.
Go to a library, get the book, read it if you can and then come back here. I'm sick of you.

Well whenever someone talks about space marines and talks about Warhammer, I bring up Starship Troopers.

Shooting a nuke at a dam because "you don't bring any home" rocks.
