Space Marines

Why is there such hate for the Space Marines on this site? They are out there fighting for YOUR Space Freedom and Space Rights.

Can someone explain all the Anti-Space Marine attitudes?

I suppose the hate is directed more towards the Space Marines fresh out of the printing presses.
They are just killers with no faces or personalities.
So it gets kinda boring eventually...
I don't have anything against Space Marines anyway.

You said it tho. It's cause "Space Marines" sounds... stupid! I mean... GUH! Like a bad parody, like someing Mel Brooks would do for the followup to Space Balls!

Thats my opinion anyway. Couldn't they do a cool name? I mean, Necrons has a cool name. Eldar have a cool name... Chaos Space Marines have... Well, the same name with a Chaos glued to it and that sorta sucks, but you get my meaning here?!

I don't hate them on principle, what I hate are the ones who have no discernible differences from the ones in Aliens, and are so obviously a blatant ripoff that there's nothing more to be said. That's why I hate Gears of War (that, and the absurd notions of masculinity).

Any human military that fights in space or on other planets in games.

Nah... I hate them because they never change their armour. Master Chief is really doing everyone a favour by not removing his helmet.

Because they seem to be based off of the Blizzard variety, which got away with being the same because they were units in an RTS, not characters.

I really like 40k space marines. I even collect them. I'm pretty meh about "space marines" in other games, they are preferable to thin waifs you get in JRPGs and so on.

In the 40K universe, I don't mind them. Never played Starcraft, so I can't comment on that. But I loathe Halo, because the space marine protagonist is a prick.
But a different question, would Gordon Freeman be a space marine? I mean he technically wears a power armor, and he did go to another planet at one point...
