When subject matter is abused into countless shovelware titles it's only natural to garner disdain, also halo sucked and anyone who's not a racist 12 year old knows it.

I'm not a racist twelve year old and I don't think Halo sucks. It was good enough for what it is. Though admittedly I mute everyone but my actual real life friends on Halo so I don't have to listen to kids yammer as they beat my guy to death...

But I suppose you have a point about the shear amount of Space Marines flooding the market probably generates some degree of scorn...

Why is there such hate for the Space Marines on this site?

I'd sign up to be a Space Marine any day! Just look at the brawn and overall masculinity that is the Marine in Starcraft!

A space marine is somewhat cliche now, with Halo, Torok, Gears of War (sort of), and Aliens sporting the title of Space Marine somewhere.

Aliens invented Space Marines... Warhammer 40K came out a year after the Aliens movie.

So you can't dog out crappy Aliens games for having Space Marines. They invented what everyone perceives as Space Marines.

Except for Warhammer 40K, I guess those guys pulled from the Mobile Infantry of Starship Troopers and some of the crazier stories about the Knights Templar.

Ok, so basically the Colonial Marines and Mobile Infantry are the model all other Space Marines follow. (Except for Commander Shepard in Mass Effect, he'd kind of like a Jedi... Kind of... but with guns...)

You said it tho. It's cause "Space Marines" sounds... stupid! I mean... GUH! Like a bad parody, like someing Mel Brooks would do for the followup to Space Balls!

Thats my opinion anyway. Couldn't they do a cool name? I mean, Necrons has a cool name. Eldar have a cool name... Chaos Space Marines have... Well, the same name with a Chaos glued to it and that sorta sucks, but you get my meaning here?!

I completely agree with the name thing, i go with their other name: Adeptus Astartes.

Aliens style has been disproportionately popular to how useful they actually were in the movie.

It's a lie, man. Those pixel killing space marines aren't there for YOUR rights, they're there for your MONEY. They serve the corporations, man, like mindless drones, perpetuating this blood-sport entertainment lifestyle that just spreads negative energy everywhere.
