"I should be fine. It was just a flesh wound." I looked around. "Whoever comes with me should be armed. It's safer than some places, but it's still pretty dangerous for the unprepared. Especially the area my contact is in."
"Thank you, Rick." I smiled, then headed off the ship with my escorts, going to the area of my contact. Once I got there, I turned to Tim and Rick. "He'll want to see me alone. Just keep guard out here. Come get me if I'm not out in half an hour." I went inside, handing my weapon to the guard inside and heading upstairs.
I stayed in the cabin alone, again, and just looked around at the various intruments and gauges that were used to drive the ship. I named all of them by memory, one right after the other. It was easy for me, remembering all the names and what they did, but unfortunately it was the only thing that I was ever good at, that and flying the ship of course.
I sighed and spoke to myself. "This is getting very boring."
After 20 minutes with my contact, I left the building with an envelope in one hand. Limping back to the ship with my "bodyguards", I handed the envelope to the captain. "Here you go. Got us a new job, though I don't know the details. I didn't open the envelope."
James walked intot eh cockpit and sat down beside Jessica,
"You look like you could use some company. Why didn't you go with Antonia?" James asked, wondering if Jessica was ok, "Something bothering you or something?"
I smiled when I saw the captain. I hadn't spoke to anybody in quite a while.
"I don't really know. I guess I'm not that used to talking to people. But anywho, I'm ok, just a bit lonely. As a pilot I'm usually by myself all day. I just stay in here and fly the ship then nothing else. When I was military I would go days without talking to a person. So when I came and joined you guys I was suddenly surrouned by people and I didn't really know what to do or how to talk to them."
"Well, I tell ya, your a real nice girl, and a damn fine pilot too! Something I have learnt over the years is that the more a crew communicates, the better off they are." James sighed "Look, I apologize for the way I may have treated you over the past. I am an ignorant old man, it took you and Antonia to realize what woman are truly capable of. And for that, I feel I must thank you."
Jessica smiled as the captain said thank you. It was only the second time he had ever said it to her. She was about to speak but Tonie spoke over the comm.
"Another job? Awesome! I can't wait to see what it is."
I have a task that needs to be done, and you are the best people I can think of to do it. There is a warehouse on Brumena that belongs to an enemy of mine. He has hidden a prototype spaceship engine of mine that he stole there. The warehouse is very expansive, and there are doubtlessly numerous traps in it. However, if you complete this task, I will reward you with another copy of the new engine. It has about 30% less heat emission, allowing you to travel faster without worrying about overheating."
