.....Alien vs predator.

The stealthy, usually depicted in gameplay as being fragile predator. Equals 8 foot tall killing machine with a chainsaw sword.

....Yeah no.

Well at least there's finally some actual gameplay for this damn game.

Holy crap, B-Cell found a game to post about that doesn't make me want to set my computer on fire.

I'm torn on this, really.

-Warhammer 40K? Yes!
-Hulk? Yes!
-Tyranids? Yes!
-Location based damage? Fuck yes!
-Primarily a single player game with maybe some co-op? ...Oh, so close.

I know that maybe not everyone is down for it, but this is basically the perfect game for a L4D style co-op game. They'll probably include some options similar to that, but it seems pretty obvious NPC squad management will play a huge part in the game. Just... really, this could have been perfect.

I'll keep an eye on it. Even if it's not a L4D clone, it seems like it has promise as a single player game. It's just a wasted opportunity for me. As long as they keep up with nice gameplay footage and stay away from pre-order DLC bonus bullshit, this looks like a purchase for me.

Loved 40K back in the '90's (Necromunda > all... ), and Space Hulk was my first experience of anything Games Workshop, so a first-person Terminator game done justice would be pretty badass. I barely know anything about the game, but it unfortunately looks rather like an L4D co-op shooter more than a proper FPS with a campaign supporting SP play. I adored L4D, but that's not the kind of experience I personally want in a 40K world.

Still, it looks good, at least. Well, on YT or a PC it does... My XB1 will probably struggle to maintain 30fps. #retrogaming

Hah, I was writing my post and you beat me to the punch. ;-) Though it seems we took exactly the opposite things away from it, in terms of being nervy about what it might be. To me it does look too like L4D, and that's not something I want at all.

It'd be a perfect fit from a gameplay design POV, sure, but when I think of creeping through space hulks I want atmosphere and immersion, and co-op games just kill both of those things for me. L4D in 'practise mode' (SP) could be creepy, but with a full team it was just an awesome giggle fest. I don't want giggles and fun in a 40K Terminator game, I want horror and fear despite being a walking tank.

Did I just saw a Tyranid using a Bazooka?
Also I think an old model or infested Tyranid. Seeing this I think they will combine the new and old Editions of Tyranids in the game.
Cool.

However seeing that you can customize your Marine, I fear for balance issues.

Well...there are many things which maybe go terribly wrong with this game.
First of, the Terminators speed maybe is an issue and of course jumping. I don't think Terminators are capable to jump normally, except I am very wrong.
Second L4D games have the Director AI to make more interesting each different game sections. We don't know if we see something similar here as well.
Finally the game is very dark. Sure, I guess it should be dark cause of the nature of the game, but playing for many hour and seeing the same grey environment over and over again it maybe get tiresome....

Oh, the game could easily go horribly wrong. You bring up some very valid concerns. If it was available for preorder right now, I wouldn't buy it (Well, I've sworn off preordering in general, but you get my meaning). But this seems like a good start to me.

Genestealer (A breed of Tyranid), which have a dozen subvarients (From the fiction, at least. I don't think they're as varied in the board game). Pretty much a mandatory addition to a hulk game. Things would get boring as hell otherwise.

You saw a human-genestealer hybrid [http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Genestealer_Cult] using a missle launcher. That's what happens when genestealers begin to infect and interbreed into a populace.

OT:
Holy shit... I own Space Hulk, and prefer it to the more action oriented SH: Acension they came out with, because I actually like the tabletop games and rules. But DAMN this game looks awesome! I know Space Hulk is traditionally Terminators v Genestealers, but having run Dark Heresy games involving exploring space hulks, there is a lot of fun to be had with the other 40k races in them, too. Hopefully some expansions may be in the works if this is successful.

There's two ways to do a Space Hulk game - Full blown Hulk (Atmosphere) and full blown Space Marine (I am an ANGEL OF DEATH). I agree, if their going single player, they gotta go for the hulk focus.

What you will get is a bunch of drunken people shouting praises to the Emperor of Mankind into their mics and cursing heretics and xenos while putting them to the flame.

...and maybe some giggling.

...and I think its going to be fucking glorious. I'm sure my fiance is going to hate me for it.

Looks promising indeed. I like the localized damage feature. It's something I wish more shooters would implement.

I just hope they invest the proper time and effort into squad AI so that it's at least somewhat competent. I don't want L4D-esque scenarios where I'm pinned by an enemy while an AI teammate literally two feet away doesn't even try to assist. Also, a part of me is hoping there will be more enemy variety than what's shown so far. Space Hulks have been known to house foes besides Genestealers, including Orks and the forces of Chaos.

To be fair, Genestealers are capable of tearing through Terminator armor like paper (at least in the fluff).

But yeah, I'd say it's more like Aliens meets Starship Troopers, especially since Tyranids are inspired by both Xenomorphs and Arachnids.

So, this, coupled with Eisenhorn, Warhammer: Total War, and Vermintide, could mean that Games Workshop is finally issuing out its licenses to games that AREN'T shovelware?

I suppose the Emperor truly does protect.

Looks pretty great. Finally happy to see some gameplay come out of the thing.

Not too hot on the whole Tyranids with human weapons, though. Would have preferred groups of Tyranid Termagants or Warriors, or whatever. Tyranids have guns, too, so why don't they use them?

Also, whilst cool looking, and definitely fitting with the whole "you are a man wearing a tank" theme, the camera shake whilst walking will drive me insane. FoV looks a little low, too. Hopefully these can be changed in the settings.

I always found it funny that rather then get a shit load of soldiers with flamers they use space marines with armor about as effective as papermache, anyways hopefully it will be good. Single player game is a huge bonus.
The in-universe explanation is that Space Hulk boarding is considered one of the few justifiable uses for Terminator Armour. In open field battles, they are too slow and exposed to heavy artillery to be effective. During boarding actions, they are able to tank small arms fire without the same risk of getting blown up by heavy ordnance.

Also, this IS Co-op. The guy said that the other Deathwing Members are either AI OR Player controlled.

I fail to see how soldiers with flak armor would do any better than space marines. And that's without getting into how narrow Space Hulks tend to be, so the one thing the guard has over Space Marines, numbers, would be completly ineffective. And how Space Hulks tend to not have atmosphere.

You might as well just have them wear dinner bells if you're sending in the guard.

The idea, I think, is that soldiers are a dime a dozen, and Space Marines are valuable, so if armor doesn't matter, you might as well use Guardsmen.

Besides that, you're right. At best, a Hulk will have portions of it that are exposed to void; At worst, it's actually got poison and acid floating around the place. And then there's the varied gravity, the fact that there may be xenos besides Tyranids, they might need to tear their way through the ships hull/inner plating (Which Terminators are good at), and, of course, the fact that Tyranids are not the worst things you can find in a hulk - They've been marinating in the damn warp, some of them for thousands of years.

Oh, and usually there's probably some Mechanicus higher up around that would be highly offended if you told him that no, he wasn't going to get the best the Imperium can offer to go dig up some tech wonder. And those Tech Priest guys can get pretty snippy for people who supposedly gave up emotion.

That...actually looks pretty promising. I'm pretty much down for anything 40k (that isn't shovelware), so I'll be following this with interest.
