I think the genestealers tearing through armour thing has more roots in game mechanics than in-universe material. As in, even if genestealers can tear through armour with ease, Terminator armour is still going to provide more protection than the t-shirts the Imperial Guard wear. Not to mention that Terminators tend to be the best Space Marines in terms of experience/training, and can levy the heaviest amount of firepower.

Yeah, that actually looks kinda fun.

I know that maybe not everyone is down for it, but this is basically the perfect game for a L4D style co-op game. They'll probably include some options similar to that, but it seems pretty obvious NPC squad management will play a huge part in the game. Just... really, this could have been perfect.
Well, the trailer guy did say "with a squad of either AI or other players".

Isn't that basically L4D?

So it's Vermintide's 40K counterpart but with a more fleshed out singleplayer campaign?

That gameplay looks radical as fuck, and that localized damage thing sounds really cool. Yeah I was already intrigued by the previous trailers but colour me truly psyched after seeing some actual gameplay.

There was a mod for L4D that turned it into space hulk, but I couldn't get it to work properly on my computer at the same time as my friends and then to connect to each other so we never got to play it multiplayer.

Hopefully with this we'll finally be able to team up to purge the xenos together as the Emperor wills.

Nice. With BFG Armada, this might be the first 40K game that doesn't suck since DoW.
Now someone only has to bring the old DoW back.

Fuckin' sold.

I remember playing the old PC version of Space Hulk
and if they've brought the series up to date (and as it seems they're selling it to us console peasants) I'll snap up a copy.

Anyone have any clue as to a release date?

I hope the AI is at least somewhat competent. I like how it's the Dark Angels, and not the Ultrasmurfs in this game.

Define "singleplayer campaign". If you mean that it can be played offline, then Left 4 Dead can be played on your own. If you mean that Left 4 Dead did not have a story, then that is also incorrect, as each mission links up to the next, and there is a story being told along the way; even linking Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 together. Sure, it isn't the most engaging, complex or compelling plot, but there is still enough of it to be classified as a campaign.

Yes it does. It has a campaign, you can play it solo with AI. Or of course you can play it co-op.

Which is exactly what was described in this here trailer.

I'm not criticizing the game as being a L4D rip-off. (Although it probably is.) Basically every co-op game has ripped off L4D since it came out.

this is story driven SP game with Coop. L4d is Coop game which we can play solo with bots.

So, this, coupled with Eisenhorn, Warhammer: Total War, and Vermintide, could mean that Games Workshop is finally issuing out its licenses to games that AREN'T shovelware?

I suppose the Emperor truly does protect.
From what I've seen and heard, the Eiseinhorn game is complete garbage, so it's not all roses. But yeah, Total Warhammer, Vermintide, Battlefleet Gothic, Mordheim, this game. It's not all doom and gloom

...bah, until the planets align and I get a Necromunda game that plays almost just like XCOM:EW, then it is all doom/gloom. ;-) Well, I'd settle for a 40K skirmish game that played like XCOM, given barely anyone seems to remember or care about Necromunda.

What you will get is a bunch of drunken people shouting praises to the Emperor of Mankind into their mics and cursing heretics and xenos while putting them to the flame.

...and maybe some giggling.

...and I think its going to be fucking glorious. I'm sure my fiance is going to hate me for it.
Nah, randoms on Xbox Live likely won't be saying any of that stuff. It'll probably just be the usual homophobia and misogyny from the conventional console shooter crowd...

There's two ways to do a Space Hulk game - Full blown Hulk (Atmosphere) and full blown Space Marine (I am an ANGEL OF DEATH). I agree, if their going single player, they gotta go for the hulk focus.
I can nitpick all I like, but ultimately quality games set in the 40K 'verse - especially on console - are almost nonexistent, so if it plays well yet plays like L4D I won't be that down on it. The more quality GW games that gain mass market appeal, the better for everyone in terms of larger playerbases, more IP's being tried, and so on.

To be fair, Eisenhorn seems fairly solid for IOS. It just falls apart once you throw it into the PC arena, where we expect a whole lot more.

Well, yes, but how are they going to handle Co-op characters? Are they just going to take over one of the host's Space marines, with their selected load out? Are you going to be able to loadout your own marine that is only used for coop? Or is it going to be 4 librarians smashing through the hulk? Do you get equipment/xp/rewards when going into another person game?

I mean, most of those I'd be ok with, I suppose, but each has their own pitfalls, and there are definitely ones I'd prefer over others.

More seriously though, I think the gameplay looks to be too slow (termies) to keep the attention of the typical shooter crowd. I think you will end up with more 40k enthusiasts than COD/BF Mil-Shooter or Quake gib-fest players.

I'm going to be on PC though so *shrug*

I don't like warhammer 40k all that much, but this looks pretty awesome. It definitely does have some l4d vibes, but given that it has a single player I couldn't be happier.

I did play that spin off tabletop rpg that was similar to dungeons and dragons (where you roleplayed as a single character and there was a gamemaster and stuff) and I would love to see a game with that kind of plot done up bethesda style.
