I'm looking for some cool "out of this world" music, no vocals. I really like Ratatat, but I want some more mellow songs. I really like these two:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omoacP1pgWU

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Q_47b507vg

They have a mystical/ sci-fi feel that I can't really explain, but if anyone knows songs that are somewhat similar in sound and/or feel, please post them. If I see a song that fits what I'm looking for, I'll add it to the list.

Seriously, no vocals.

Thanks for all the music so far, if I were to make a suggestion it would be to add songs with a nice melody/beat. Anyways, keep them coming! Below I will make a list of the best examples of what I am looking for either from what is suggested or from a song I forgot to originally include. I know my parameters a little weird, maybe even contradictory, but maybe this will help. I want to be able to lay down in a room with the lights of completely sober, and let this music carry me through "space." Whatever, I said I couldn't describe it.

I know there are a few vocals, but It didn't inturrupt the song for me:

Here are a few that might interest you:

Idk if this falls under your "no vocals" thing, but otherwise I think it fits:

Just a few. Not sure if you're 100% against --all-- vocals (distorted voices and manipulated samples, operatic chord progressions, etc.) or if it's actually just strictly no lyrics. Cuz a lot of the best spacey stuff uses manipulated vocals to some degree.

ed-- oh haha guess there's like a minute of lyrics at the end of the CBL video. That's....kind of unusual for their stuff...

I know they have vocals but I think you should still check them out.
"Subterranean Homesick Alien" by Radiohead
"Eclipsical" by Orbs

I pretictularly love Homesick Alien. Great song to listen to while looking at the stars.
Radiohead's The Bends and OK Computer have great spacey songs

Freelancer tracks are as 'spacey' as it gets, at least for me...

FTL, bro.
It's got a rockin' soundtrack:

If I was a less lazy man, I'd have put the entire soundtrack on here, but twenty-seven tracks is quite a few.

Trance music has a lot of great nonvocal songs. This one is one of my favorites from Gareth Emery.

The Mass Effect games are also a great source for space like sounding music as well.

Ye need some Vangelis. He did an entire non-vocal concept album about space, called Albedo 0.39.

There are so many options, mostly from the past. Space games don't get much love these days.

Look up "Alexei Zakharov" in youtube, he did most of the X universe game music, and they are as spacy as you get.

My current favourite:

The most prominent example I can think of is Novus Magnificat by Constance Demby.

Or the more recent band Hammock.

God is an Astronaut have a very spacey vibe as well.

Basically any New-Age music or Post-Rock fit what you are looking for.

Essentially the entire soundtrack to Carl Sagan's Cosmos should fill that need. It always helps me relax ^^.

I highly recommend the Selected Ambient Works albums by Aphex Twin. Here are a few personal favourites (be sure to listen in HD!):

Röyksopp do some pretty chill stuff on their first album too. Most of them have vocals, but there are some instrumentals:

The Last Days of Gravity by Younger Brother is pretty high quality as well, worth looking into:
