If it ever gets to the point where you think a slap is necessary, you've already done something horribly, horribly wrong.

Spanking means something slightly different in the UK, and would get you some weird looks if you associated it with children...

In all seriousness, I have no problem with it if it's used sparingly. Causing pain should be secondary to the shock of it. When a child gets smacked the shock should be enough to make them realise it was wrong. Beating them to cause pain is slightly sadist.

Look at England for crying out loud.
Do you know how much fetish porn comes out of that country? Do you?
It's both creepy and staggering...
That's a rather spectacular leap; and all the fetish stuff that I've browsed past on my way to the normal porn :):shifty eyes::) has been from America.

That's a spectacular leap of logic.

I was only spanked once as a child and one of my mother's friends talkd her that she was being a bad mother by not spanking me. Currently I am at the top of my class at a private school and on the 2nd line on my hockey team. This friend of my mother's friends kids are drug addicts and criminals.
Hardly conclusive - and going to a private school has nothing to do with it.

OT: I was only ever "smacked" (spanked just sounds kinky) once or twice, and the other few times the threat of it did the trick.

There's no need to beat them until they're bruised for crying out loud (that's how they catch you out after all...), but I don't think a smack (or lack thereof) has any real affect either way. Different kids will respond differently.
