I just like the disclaimer at the beginning that says, "graphic content has been put in the show for historical accuracy." That just makes me laugh. If they were wanting historical accuracy I'm pretty sure the characters shouldn't be speaking English.
And I'm pretty sure the gladiators wouldn't be slaughtering each other.

Spartacus Blood and Sand is the best TV show I have ever seen. While the special effects aren't top notch, the action is still amazing and the story and characters are totally fucking awesome.

I like the show that much that I read the first few lines of this thread, got blinded by rage and it took me a few minutes to realise that you said you enjoy the show at the bottom of your post.

Yeah I watched a few episodes. I don't know, it's like it tries to hard to be campy and low-bro, because of that it didn't click.

I saw the first episode and thought to my self , that sucked pretty hard. Then I watched the second episode, and the third one and found myself completely hooked. It is the worst show I cant stop watching.

Xena!!!

This show is awesome! Like others have said the true show opens up epoisode 5+. All about the double cross. The sex and violence is just
BONUS!! Better be comfortable the male body though.

Respect the Ludus!

I love it. Yes it is campy in places and distinctly ropey in others but I find it hilarious and entertaining and if nothing else an interesting use (for the first time?) of digital backlot in television.

I think that Bravo TV has just shown the 7th or 8th episode and some of the twists are getting very interesting indeed.

Is it gratuitous? Yes. But then I'm old enough to choose to watch sex, violence, gore and swearing. I was astonished to see full frontal male nudity though.

Oh, and I was interested to hear that Stars, the people producing/screening Spartacus are teaming up with the BBC to make the next series of Torchwood - could mean a more adult approach and a much bigger budget (and more digital backlot to push the sci fi limits beyond the city of Cardiff).

I watched the first few episodes before the novelty wore off and it became a closet homosexual ogle fest.

I couldn't get past the first ep. It was just too awful. The acting mostly. It's just a train wreck in that department.

I think my problem is that it is just not bad enough to go over into camp land. Either that or I keep wishing it was Rome. I can't stop comparing it to Rome, and if it came down to watching this or watching Rome for the fourth time, I think I'd still pick Rome.

Though, most of my guy friends seem to love it. So, I guess I'm just not in the right demographic.

I think Charlie Brooker said it best, that it's all hokey fun, 'Rome as written by a horny 14 year old boy' until you get a few episodes in, and then you almost get 'titty blindness' and just accept there's huge levels of nudity for no real plot reason, and that people lose all eight pints of blood from any slash...

And then, you just sink into the depravity and revel in it, like the Romans themselves, and I have to say I've not enjoyed a TV show like this as much in years!

The highs and lows are played out brilliantly and there's some true 'cheer at the screen' moments of satisfaction in there too.

I sense a feeling that some people can't enjoy it because of the tits and blood, but this time I don't feel it's there to cover up the show, it's just there as part of the show.

I'll certainly be looking forward to season 2 tho I'm lost as to where they'll go. (Please no spoilers folks, some people might start watching from Ep 1! )

After Spartacus, I sense any other drama show is going to feel tame, where people sit down and talk to reach a solution instead of disembowelling someone.

I love these types of shows! Blood, Gore, Violence, among other things of the nature... Reminds me of 300, I'm definitely checking this one out!

The above comment is win.

OT: Sometimes campy, ludicrously stupid TV is the best kind. See also: Bonekickers, Paradox, first two series of Torchwood.
