Where would we be without the freedom of the internet? That's like asking, where would we be without the automobile? or the plane? Or electricity? The internet is one of our worlds greatest technological achievements, even as i write this im currently chatting with a friend who is serving abroad in the armed forces and one of my old classmates studying in Great Britain. thirty years ago this was all the dream of some motivated men in cubicles. since then its evolved beyond im sure even their wildest dreams, now i can share videos, images, even songs with people all over the globe at any hour of any day! ITS AMAZING! but now the people who created some of those amazing things i share over the amazing device that is the internet want to stop me and you from doing just that. no im not a pirate. no im not in Anonymous. no im not a hacker. Have i ever watched something illegally? Probably. But who hasn't? Im sure everyone on this website has at least once watched something that under SOPA or Protect IP would be taken down. To those who do not understand how these totally work let me explain it in someone else s words since even i dont totally grasp it. "think of one copy-righted song on a website as one counterfeit dollar in a bank, Sopa could shut down that bank, and all of its branches because of that one dollar." now, im not a political genius or even a computer genius, i know little about how the internet works. I do know these bills both would destroy the internet that those men dreamed of 30-odd years ago. let me say this in conclusion, The internet is owned by no man, its managed (sort of) by everyone on the planet, but congress wants to give the right to censor it (at least here in the U.S.) to just handful of people. I dont understand the whole 99% or the 1% or the 5.768% but if these bills were passed it's my understanding that the right to censer the internet would be controlled by even less than 1%. so lets keep the internet in the hands of not the 99% but the 100%...please call or write to your congressmen today and ell them to please dont support these bills. Thank you.
