Edit for the computer-ignorant : plugging something like this will, at minimum fry your network card, worst case scenario, take the motherboard and the power supply with it (also a good chance to fry the CPU and RAM)
I don't understand how this would happen? I am admittedly not good with electronics, but I'm just plugging it into the socket next to the one I normally plug the wire into. What's the difference? I mean, I know they both provide electricity, but aside from that.

I also don't like being called ignorant, but I could probably understand this if it's turning out to be a hoax being played on me.
The CAT5 socket does NOT provide power and is NOT intended to (at least not 120V AC).No offense meant for the "ignorant" i still think you're yanking our chain.

You do know the difference between an Ethernet port and a wall outlet right? One is information while the other is power. Power outlet has alot more volatage going through it and will prolly overload components

I hope to all the gods man has ever worshipped that you are joking... I really hope so. If you are not, I think I will cry off in my corner and cry for the human race.

I agree with some of the above posters, I think you are yanking our chains.
If not, then I hope it does fry your computer, one less stupid person on the internet.

Really? I don't see how a wire is going to speed up the connection any higher than your ISP is sending you already. The fact I honestly believe you actually paid money for that though I hope it works for you, I'm feeling nice.

5 seconds to load a page is still a long time.
Good job detecting sarcasm.

I don't have the patience to follow through with this, and this really has offered the only fun I've ever had in this forum (seriously what the hell is wrong with most of you), so I've decided to go to somewhere funnier. I have expressed my feelings in a poem. I hope you all read it.

Ban My Sorry Ass - an expressive poem by MusicalFreedom

Once upon a midnight tipsy, while I toppled drunk and dipsy,
Over many a quaint and curious plate of cold and curried bean,
While I nodded, nearly panting, suddenly there came a chanting,
As of manchilds loudly ranting, ranting at my 'puter screen.
`'Tis some n00bz0r,' I muttered, `ranting at my 'puter screen -
Ban me now, and nothing more.'

I'd stick with saying trolled, OP isn't written sarcastically. Even if he is lying[footnote]My feeling of nice is now over and he is[/footnote] it's not sarcastic.

Heya there, readers.

I've got a question, but first I need to set the background. All my life, I have had slow Internet - I don't know if it's bad luck, or if the Internet is out to get me, but every speck of data seems to be carried on the back of a turtle recently. It took me about 10 seconds just to load this page.

I was scouting around my local shops, and I came across a beauty. It's an ethernet wire that, on the packaging (that I've unfortunately thrown away), says it would boost my Internet speed by up to 50 percent!

Now, if I open this page using this new wire, it'll only take 5 seconds - not sure if that's slow or not, but it's a definite improvement.

I'm going to restart and plug this wire in.

Has anyone found any more Internet-speed increasing methods? I am interested in some light discussion about this topic, since I believe that the fastest Internet speed you can get is obviously the best.

I shall report back soon, after having plugged this bad boy in.
you are a dumbass if you bought that, it is just a cut off ethernet wire badly taped to a power cord for the love of god don't plug that thing in it could ruin your computer

I plugged my modem into a V8 engine instead of my usual wall socket, since then I've done 88.8 miles an hour and with 1.8 gigawatts I'm gonna go back in time!
