Previously I said i can't believe you thought Spiderman 3 wasn't that bad, after reading some of these comments I remembered that I haven't actually watched the whole thing.

After deciding it was a renter, I was so disgusted that I turned it off half-way, and I don't think I'm being convinced to watch the whole thing.
I think a reboot is fine. I have no faith in Sony to do it right but....hmm

Director: Jon Favreau?
Spider-man: f- idk-um -Max Records?? Some unknown kid actor - kid actors who don't suck are kinda rare.
Mary Jane - ???
Green Goblin - how about, let's see - Javier Bardem? - no, that wouldn't work at all.

And how is sony still in business? Oh yeah cause most everyone in this world has shit for brains... I have enjoyed Spider-man since the first one came out. Each one has consistently gotten me to the movie theaters. Which for me is saying something. I rarely go to the theater, I think I probably average 5 theater visits a year. And the fact that there are so many threads that are left loose and dangling like the cut strings of a fine marionette is depressing. I genuenly wanted to see all of the story archs finished... oh well. I guess it wasn't meant to be...

Let's assemble a squad of people to go into Sony Pictures headquarters and beat the living fuck out of everyone, even the accountants. I hate those guys.

While everyone is arguing how Venom stands as a character,

could someone tell me what's supposed to be so good about Sandman? So he's a crook...

that's all I got.

There you go. I'd tell you all that but then I'd not be working smarter instead of harder.

In response to the last paragraph, this really isn't so much a sight unseen. The animated version of Spiderman has been "rebooted" several times. There was something in the 80's (I think, can't remember how old that version was). There was another version in the 90's that I still would say is the best one of the lot. Now they have a pseudo-anime version of it on DisneyXD.

In short, this probably won't end well and I hate to see that. I was hoping to see the Lizard make an appearance as they had the character right there and ready to go if they needed him. Mysterio would have been worthwhile as well. But this at least has one bit of good news, and it is that I'm not stupid for hating Sony like I have been for so many years. :p

I don't care how "true to the history" The Vulture is, an 80 year old man with sharp wings is a stupid villain. There's a reason he's ranked as one of the 10 worst villains in comic book history

Sure why not. We'll ***** and complain, then raise a stink about it all the way through production. Then, as soon as it is released, we will not do the smart thing and avoid it like the plague. What we will do, every single one of us, is go and see the thing when it is released. Why don't we all save time and not watch, not even talk about it and move on with our lives? No we can't do that, can we? We need to compare this new one to every single one that came before it good or bad.
I don't know, I never went to see Avatar, and I only saw Spider-Man 3 because I liked the last two. I had no idea it would suck.

The last movie I saw "just because" was Star Wars Episode III. After wasting my life on that I figured I had better things to do, and if I didn't it was time to take a good, hard look at my life.

One of the reasons Sony didn't hire David Fincher initially is because he didn't want to do an origin story. He wanted a 2/3 minute sequence showing how peter got bit(Opening to Spider-Man 2). He also wanted to do "The Night Gwen Stacy Died" storyline.

I think Norman Osborn/Green Goblin will be the villian introduced in the reboot. The storylines are too potentially rich not to be. It could possibly lead to this storyline. I liked Dafoe in the first film, but the green goblin should and could be so much more. Not only as a character, but in terms of peters mentor/enemy. I don't think the Norman/harry subplots were done as well as they could have been. They could make up for it in a big way. Of course if GG is the villian and he isn't done well, then this is where the reboot could really blow up in there face.

And then there's the look. Why they didn't go with Alex Ross's designs http://www.alexrossart.com/artforsale.asp?sc=ARSP1&page=1 is beyond me. Maybe they didn't think it would translate to the big screen. I disagree and it would have been better the what we got IMO.

I am clearly the only person who did not like the previous films and is not a fan of Raimi.

That being said, I am excited to see a new one...much as I would be excited to see a total redux on the X-men movies.

The Spectacular Spiderman series is a recent example that a teen Spiderman can work without being a completely whiny snot. But with Sony at the helm, I'm not holding my breath.

The Spiderman story has been retold so many times like a modern myth that it'll bear through many more retellings. I seriously doubt this heralds the end of Spiderman movies worth watching, even if Sony fumbles the ball on the next adaptation.
Spectacular Spiderman is pretty good. Not too campy, not too dark or serious. Just entertaining.

I think Sony produced the first couple seasons of Spectacular Spider-Man before they relinquished the rights to Disney.

I?ve been a screenplay writer wanna be for quite some time now, and as I learn more about the business, breaking into it/being someone?s *****, I?ve realized that the number one problem with movies, and why they suck and are safe, are because of producers. Producers, like us all, love movies and they want to be a part of them but the thing is, for the most part, they don?t know what makes a good movie and they?re not interested in making a good movie, they just want to make money. Making money is fine, but everyone suffers when they try to make it as safe and accessible for everyone thereby making it utterly bland. And they?re obsession with making money over a good movie is like turning one?s wife into a prostitute; sure you?ll be making a lot of money but it just makes your wife a whore. And Spiderman 3 was a whore. A producer?s job is to identify talent and any creative impute generally leads to movies like Bratz and Spice World. Sony needs to pick someone, or stay with Raimi, with a vision of Spiderman and stick behind him. When it comes to coming up with a story, Sony, you?re all pants on head retarded. STOP. Stick to what you?re good at, and that?s fucking up your own lucrative franchises because teen angst is in and apparently new ideas are like kryptonite to another franchise that you could fuck up as well. Ugh.

Sony, I hope you snort the cocaine off your prostitute's body so hard that it blocks your air pipe and you slowly suffocate.

I would tell you to go screw yourselves, but your head's so far up your ass already.

Sam Raimi: You are the director of Spider-Man in all our hearts. You are also the man who gave us the Evil Dead series and for that we say "Groovy."
