Spiderman 4 to feature one of the lamest villains in comic book history

Movieline is reporting that John Malkovich is in talks to costar in Spider-Man 4 as the Vulture, one of Spidey's original villains (debuting all the way back in The Amazing Spider-Man #2 in 1963). Okay, that right there is not the ridiculous part, and Malkovich could indeed be a pretty great choice to play the Vulture. No, the really strange part of the story is that the magazine is reporting that the character of Felicia Hardy, who Anne Hathaway is the top choice to play, won't be the Black Cat as she's always been in the comics. Nope, they're saying that instead she will be a completely new character, made up just for the movies, called the Vulturess, who is obviously some sort of sidekick for the Vulture. The article caps it by saying that the Lizard won't be in the movie at all, because the "suits" don't want an odd-looking enemy, preferring villains whose faces you can see (the Vulture doesn't wear a mask). Okay, I know Sam Raimi didn't do a great job with Spider-Man 3, but I really can't see this being the route he'd go with Spider-Man 4. Why completely change Felicia Hardy into being a different villain rather than just introduce a new character for the role? And why create a goofy-sounding character like the Vulturess at all? I think someone seriously yanked Movieline's chain on this one, but I'd also be remiss if I didn't report on it, even if I think it's totally fake. And if it's not fake, expect Spider-Man 4 to quickly become the most fan-mocked superhero movie since Catwoman.

.
A geriatric supervillian with a young hot sidekick to tempt spidey? I can hear the fans groaning already. As if dancing, Emo Peter Parker with his "angry hair" wasn't bad enough.

This reeks of internet tom-foolery, and in any case I stopped caring after Spider-Man 3.

You do know there is going to be a female vulture sidekick right?

Creatively named the Vultress.

I don't normally do this but....*facepalm*.

I really can't think of anything else to say about this. Seriously? These two sound like the least entertaining villains you could possibly put into a movie. Now I certainly didn't like Spiderman 3, but it wasn't that bad. Again, it definitely was not good, but it wasn't awful. But this? It just sounds like it would be incredibly dull.

Too soon for Carnage? I like Vulture more than the Beetle though.

Although, since they already introduced Sand-Man and Doc Ock, maybe this is leading into a Sinister Six plot.

The Vulture's better than Mysterio. That guy was LAME. Although he was hilarious in Spiderman 2 (the game).

Well i can see John Malkovich doing it as he looks like the Vulture but after stick man Eric Forman whoops Topher Grace playing Eddie Brock a.k.a Venom who's a man/alien symbioe with muscles and full of asshattery in #3 i completely turned away from the Spider-Man movies as a franchise.

*sigh*
I still think it was shameful what they did to Venom to be honest.... he deserved better.

But still John Malcovitch is a great actor and so is Anne Hathaway so it should still be okay.

D'you mean the movie-tie-in or the PSone games? Those were absolutely amazing. Some of the best uses of cheats I think I've ever seen in a video game.

I'd just feel bad for John Malkovich if he actually ended up as the Vulture. I stopped caring about Hollywood's Spiderman attempts after 3 made such a mockery of everything it tried to do. I mean... Man. That movie was awful. And not even in a "Jingle All The Way" kind of good-awful.
