It was terrible. But then again, it's difficult to respect any awards show that gave Megan Fox an award for best actress. Sure the Bioware announcement was cool, but the announcers were terrible, from the 10 minutes or so that I watched, every single joke fell flat.

What the bloody hell is a "Spike VGA"?

What you do with my mum in the privacy of her bedroom is your own business. I don't want to know what you get up to.

Loved NPH, hated everything else.

But hey, I'm watching fucking Spike TV and you can't expect to much from a station that has "Manswers" on it.

I make a rule of not watching shitty television when it can be helped, so having had better things to do I didn't see it and honestly couldn't care less.

Spike TV in particular as a channel promotes itself to the lowest common denominator. Which doesn't mean it can't be entertaining every once and awhile, just I know not to expect anything with even a hint of talent or intelligence from that place. Why other people are so continually amazed at how their shows pander to the lowest of the low, I'll never know.

They're always a total fucking joke.

Red Dead Redemption beat out Halo Reach for best original score?! MY ASS! Bunch of tone deaf retards. Marty's amazing symphonic masterpieces vs cliche old western tunes we've heard a million times before. Yeah OK.

WTF was Sam Worthington even doing on that list anyway? I mean honestly... no. Just no. Not really sure how God of War 3 is better graphically over Heavy Rain either. GoW 3 was epic, but I have to give it to Heavy Rain. Come on, over the top cartoony gorefest vs cinematic masterpiece? Please.

I could on and on but yeah the tl;dr version = Spike's just pandering to their demographic. There's no real thoughtful insight or analysis going on here. Personally, I give GotY to Reach for being Bungie's epic swan song.

NPH was hosting, when Olivia Munn was standing right there. Seriously? How about next time we get some who actually, I don't know, knows what they're talking about? I don't care if NPH plays games, have someone who does it for a living host the damn show.
Because Olivia Munn actually knows what she's talking about right?

Olivia Munn is so fake it's hilarious, I can't believe nerds fall for it.

The biggest problem I see is they're trying to emulate the MTV Movie Awards and failing miserably. (Not saying that particular awards show is good or bad; haven't watched it in years, so I have no way of knowing if the quality has tanked.)

NPH is a fairly funny guy. I like him a great deal. Was he the right choice for this particular gig? Perhaps, perhaps not. I found him entertaining. The writing? Much less so. Eliza Dushku was just about the only presenter (besides NPH himself) who "nailed it," and that wasn't until the end of the bloody show. Really, Spike?

The formula they had back in 2006/2007 worked really well for them. It wasn't perfect, but it was pretty solid. They need to revert back to that and get away from this hodge-podge of styles they had going this year.

THIS. I have a few friends who work for Uber Entertainment, and their game Monday Night Combat was up for Best Downloadable Game. I begged my husband's best friend to Tivo the VGAs (I had to work; stupid holiday retail schedule) so I could see if they won.

Guess what? The category wasn't even mentioned on-air. WTF Spike? Really?

Dude they didn't even mention the Best of 360, PS3, Handheld, etc. so no offence to you or your friends but if they didn't show those bigger awards there's even less of a chance they were gonna show the smaller ones. To me the VGA's are becoming just another popularity contest and sellout.

i wholeheartedly agree with the thread title. through a bit of serendipity i happened upon the VGAs the moment before the mass effect 3 reveal.

i stayed to watch for about 15 min after that and was overwhelmed by it's mediocrity. it was actually uncomfortable to watch.

although i did appreciate neil patrick harris' quote: What's an around the world boner? I want one.

The Spike awards are to games what the MTV arwards are to movies. You accept that it's fun, splashy and nice to get a trophy. At the same time, you don't polish it as often as the peer chosen awards.

No offense taken. My point was, this was supposed to be a video game awards show; what we actually got was a whole lot of announcements and slightly-related unimportant crap.

Spike has been getting dumber and dumber as time goes on, to the point that I don't even watch it anymore.

Well you have to admit the announcements were good, but they spent more time with celebrities that have not a bloody thing to do with video games more than the actual video. You know an award show is a fail when they don't even have time to air all of the awards they're supposed to present because they spent so much time with people who are famous for some reason and yet no-one gives a shit about them. Also I sympathize that you're friends didn't win. I mean Costume Quest? That was nothing more than a half-ass Halloween cashgrab.

Though I did enjoy that guy performing his song Far Away from Red Dead Redemption after it won Best Song in a Game.

I...I...what.

The fact that MGS4 is known as a PS3 exclusive by, well, everyone with a remote attachment to games, I...

*sigh* they still pander to nerds like we're 14 :(

Still, Neil Patrick Harris' face was priceless.
