Lions and Tigers and Religion Threads, Oh My!

Lame attempts at humor aside, I read an article a while ago that Americans are taking more to the "many paths" view toward religion. Meaning that they are saying that you just have to be a good person or all religions are just different ways of worshiping the same God or something.

I know that my dad is not really sure that there is a hell anymore. I think that is cool.

Do you take a "many paths" approach? Do people you know?

Please keep this civil.

Inb4 "All paths lead to nothing because none of them are real lol"

OT: It shows that society is getting more progressive, which is good.

Many of my friends are either atheists, agnostics, or Christians. I'm the only person I know who believes in 'whatever I wantism'. So basically looking at things like reincarnation and guardian spirits and saying, "Hey, that's cool, it could be possible and I'd like to think it is."

If I get to heaven when I die, though, and Jesus is standing there all "Hey, you! Be Christian!" though, I would. I wouldn't die/fight guarding my beliefs.

That's the way I think, in a sense. I'm more of a believer in the idea of infinite possibility. In reality, anything could be true. There's no way to specifically say "THIS IS TRUE! I HAVE PROOF!" because sometimes even what we as humans with our limited visions of reality take as proof can actually be false.

It's weird, I know, but I'm a firm believer in the idea that we can never truly know anything. We can only believe what is in front of us or choose to deny it. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Well you know what they say, "Christianity is not a religion, it is a RELATIONSHIP". I swear that I hear that ALL the freaking time.

Oh, this comment is good too. As they say as well, "Faith is the belief of things not yet heard and the things not yet seen".

I follow a path that can be summarized by comparing it to a thin patch of lightly-tread dirt, the vegetation beaten back ever-so-slightly, with ribbons on the trees to remind me every now and then that I am still on my way, and before I know it I'm surrounded by rabid grizzly bears.

I don't even think about the idea of religon god or the concept of it unless told to do so or if I have a reason to do so.

I have no idea.

The only information I can go by is experience. Meditation, dreams and hallucinations (eg salvia).

But the fact that I have no idea is not a weak, "haven't really thought about it" thing. I live to try to make the world a better place and to help humanity as a whole realise what we are, how we got here, where we're going, and how to give us the best possible way forward. I don't know about the nature of alternate realities - I've seen them, but I don't know whether they're figments of my imagination or just real in a different way from the material world. Or if the material world is a recurring dream that ties together all my "dream" selves. This is, in fact, the entire reason for me experimenting with salvia.

If people want to lie to themselves, fine. Just remember, "Happiness is a prison, the most insidious prison of all."

I, on the other hand, like truth. So, I don't follow any spiritual paths.

I'm not religious myself, but I'd think that if god/gods existed, it/they would judge based on behaviour, not arbitrary faith (arbitrary because it depends on your upbringing more than anything else what religion you follow).

I don't think there is such a thing as a "path" to go on, since there is no afterlife, or deities.
This does not mean however, that you don't have to follow moral codes.
Being an asshole makes you feel bad, trust me on that.

I've always seen people say "I'm spiritual, not religious", and it has always come across as such a bullshit phrase to me. It's like they want to believe something, but only if it doesn't take any effort.

yes because everything I said was a lie. No wait it actually happens here and I have to fucking deal with it every day.
So do I whenever I tell someone I'm atheist.

But the way you said it was unecessarily rude.

My Mother fits under the "Universalist" category, but leans toward eastern Philosophies. I take the "Flailing Aimlessly, ever doubtful" path.
