Amazing... Makes all of the delays worth it.

I pre-ordered this game a long arse time ago. And the demo has assured me of its greatness

EDIT: Yes I love Splinter Cell
Which game would you recommend to a newcomer? I hated Double Agent, but I hear Chaos Theory and Pandora Tomorrow are good.

Lets hope they don't fall back in the trap of bring lots of firing into it...
I like being able to disable a guard without shooting...
Hell I never learned how to shoot when I first got it and was trying to complete it with stealth knockouts :p
(Talking about Panadora Tomorrow)
Well, part of the game mechanics is the gun execution. It'd be pretty hard to just use take-downs or sneak past them. But hey, it's a fun challenge. :)
I recommend starting from the beginning with the first Splinter Cell to be honest. Chaos Theory is the best but to get the full experience, you should play them all.
Is PC or console the most suitable? I've found the entire trilogy for only 11$ on PC, and there seems to be few PS2 ones left.
That would be a judgement call. If you play consoles more, get it for PS2... If you play PC more, get it for that.

I believe the demo was rather impressive. It managed to show Sam Fisher at his most destructive and distraught phase. Now that your working outside the Third Echelon, You don't have the same situation in the previous games whereby it gave you a big gun, told you all the bells and whistles on it and then told you that lethal force was not permitted. It's a liberating experience to play a splinter cell game where I've been let off the leash and have the ability to use lethal force sparingly. So, overall I'll be buying myself a copy and enjoying the new addition to the list.

Although I am sad to see that Sam is no longer the tooled up "techno ninja" he once was, I can understand why he is how he is now.

SC was ace. Pandora Tomorrow lost it's way a bit and Chaos Theory was the best. Double Agent wasn't bad, but I didn't like how they threw in the reputation thing - the missions still had the feel of Splinter Cell, but having to do things a certain way (and having missions in between missions at the base annoyed me).

The demo for Conviction seemed too easy. Knowing that if you perform a melee kill you then basically get 3 free one-shot kills of the next group of enemies dilutes the tension. I hope that the whole game isn't built around "1 easy melee kill, then a group of enemies for Mark and Execute". I did notice that you could mark your targets before performing an up close kill which means you can make Sam look as cool as he obviously is, even if you're a bit rubbish yourself. It all looks nice but still feels like they've dumbed down the gameplay for the more casual gamer.

In the end though, it's still Splinter Cell. You're still Sam Fisher (am also hoping that the co-op mode is old fashioned "stealth or die" gameplay from the first games, making at least half of the game a good challenge) and you still get to hear Michael Ironside offering remarks as you progress.

Since the first one, Splinter Cell has been one of few games that go in my "buy without any doubt" category. It hasn't changed yet.

I liked it. It allowed for a good measure of freeform in terms of how situations can be handled, and I enjoyed being able to go all out or take it slow and stealthy.

In terms of how it stacks up in comparison to previous iterations in the series, Conviction seems to have a lot better controls and animation, it's just a lot smoother in general. The new mechanics such as last known postion and mark and execute are also a welcome plus.

The control is awful, the demo is 3 minutes long and it relies heavily on shooting, which isn´t smooth or fun.

Never was a fan of the series(or stealth games in general)but this one seems a bit more actiony than the others so I might check it out. Then again it's hard to judge from the demo which is fun but too short

I hated it.

The A.I was stupid, they just stood there as I ran up to them and punched them in the face.

The button for picking up a new gun (A) when shown looks like X (throw grenade, so that was an issue.

Also it just felt bland.

Im not going to get it.

I've never played a Splinter Cell game before, but to me the demo felt like Batman: Arkham Asylum with guns. The demo in itself wasn't too impressive, but then again I can't really judge a game based on it's demo :p
