Its mainly becuase game designers have a deal with the people at XBL to make more money by having online. plus there was a short period of time where online was more demanded, and so the corporates decided that scrapping offline multi and making a bigger online would make there game better and equal more profit. the main way we can stop this is supporting games with offline and playing less online, would show corporations to make the equality of both on and offline multi players.

I agree. Split screen is far more satisfying than online multiplayer. I love sitting in a room with several friends trash talking each other, getting bored, and going to hang out.

To add another problem, I really hated that MW, WaW, and MW2 all strictly limited the weapons you had access to offline. They had no impact on online multiplayer. I should have access to them all so we can have fun. Leveling up offline was even worse. I didn't need to level up at all to have any weapons I wanted for Perfect Dark.

Split screen is one of the greatest reasons to choose a console over a PC. Local co-op or competetive goes a long way to selling a game to me. That's actually why I'd consider Fatal Inertia EX to be superior to Wipeout HD (unless that got added in since release).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't console-game developers been saying "PC Gaming is Dying"? I THINK it was somebody from Epic. Might be wrong, it was a while back. Then again, I might be completely crazy.

Regardless, wouldn't it make just as much sense to use splitscreen, so they buy more controllers (stupidly expensive things)? I understand online also costs money, but there are still people who won't pay for it (OP and I, or example). Consoles started off splitscreen, I just don't really get how you can abandon your roots that horribly.
Meh everything is dying. Pick a day and it will be something new that is dying. Just because a game doesn't have split screen it is dying. A console exclusive? PC is dying. Next week when SC2 drops it will be consoles that are dying. God forbid people have choices and the freedom to make them.

What? No one so much as mentioned freedom to make choices. In fact freedom of choice has literally nothing to do with the conversation. We can see that split-screen is dying in that it is becoming less and less common. Pick a random game off a store shelf and it's pretty damn good chance it's going to have online gameplay. Now pick another random game off the shelf, what are the chances that it's going to have splitscreen gameplay, specifically co-op gameplay? Significantly lower by most accounts.

And regarding PC gaming, go into a game store and you'll see 1, maybe 2 shelves for PC games, with whole walls of the shop dedicated to 360/PS3.

Oh but it is. We try and scare people into thinking the same way we do. That is the whole point of X is dying. We put down others because of thier choices (oh you are a PC gamer so yours is dying). There is split screen games out there. One just dropped last week. The problem isn't split screen dying or not. The problem is some games aren't supporting split screen so it is dying. But not. The only thing that isn't dying but should is all the propaganda saying how everything is dying.

I literally see no reason why consoles should not have split screen. For PC, it's understandable to some extent, but for consoles, there's just no excuse. But then again, the line between PC and consoles is starting to blur.

No ones scaring anyone, and no one is putting anyone else down. I'm a PC gamer myself, fewer and fewer games are being released on this platform, and many that are being released are just ports of games designed for consoles. Sure, there's the odd gem, but by all accounts its getting rarer and rarer (aka dying).

You said it yourself, fewer games are supporting splitscreen, its become uncommon. When people say "X is dying", they arent saying anything derogatory, they aren't putting anyone or anything down, they're merely making an observation that X is getting less and less common. In this case, we view it as a bad thing as we enjoy splitscreen and regard it highly as a feature of a game. It's a sad thing that splitscreen is getting rarer (aka, dying).

What about this new thing Sony is developing? Single-screen splitscreen using 3D televisions? I think there was a thread about it here a few days ago. That could revitalize it.

I miss my 4-player splitscreen. Me and the family used to sit down with a multitap and play some Timesplitters from 9 'til 11.

Just because there is a TV feature coming out, doesn't mean that developers will use it.

Let's face it, some of the shittiest games out there instantly turned more fun with split-screen. Let me tell you, my dad loves to play, and he always gets sad when a game doesn't have split-screen.

I can remember when every other Friday was system link day, and we would all gather around and play splitscreen games like goldeneye or halo.

When Gears of war 2 dropped guesting a part of me died.

I miss being able to splitscreen with friends.
