I intentionally cut the topic name short to see who would read it. :p
I am just so proud of you I could cry. I love seeing people makes fools out of themselves because they are to lazy to actually read the article.

Although the judge threw the case out he made some rather disturbing remarks. I never knew that not spoiling your kids and giving them every little thing they want was called bad parenting. Plus if your in college grow up you dont need "care packages" from your mother.
Not unless it's money for books and highlighters and ramen noodles, and condoms for sexual relations with our class matessssss.... (cookie for reference)

In all seriousness, a little help with university is appreciated, but care packages? Unless you're in the military, that seems a little obscure.

Family Guy. Brian goes back to college and Stewie tags along. Its Stewie setting up his answering machine message to scare off the emo roommate of Brian.

I honestly don't know how they could have stood in a court and said straight faced that not sending care pckages and not buying a dress was negligent parenting.

This is why parents should be allowed to savagely beat their children for their misdeeds. Or Y'know, a simple spanking works too...

I'm surprised that this lawsuit being thrown out actually made news. Usually people don't care after the suit has been file to report on it. Try looking for news involving any silly lawsuit that was filed over a year ago. Odds are the was dismissed, but no one felt like reporting on that because it only shows how not broken the legal system is.
And if I were this women, I would cut the kids off. No financial help. No communication. Fuck them.

I'm really surprised it's seen as newsworthy though i suppose being able to title it along the lines of "Kids sue mom for being a meanie" helps a lot.

Honestly I don't see why they're suing, cut ties with mom and see a shrink. it's cheaper and probably goes a lot further in the long run.

Some of those claims too are b/s. I can understand how it would be meaningful to the kids but the way the article lays it out really does make them look more spoiled than i think they necessarily are. I kinda got the impression that Dad got them to list every little thing she'd ever done that upset them and didn't bother to filter it.

As well look at it through the kid's view. First time away from home at school and yer mom doesn't contact you or anything? That's kinda harsh. as well she buys the son a car and won't even help the girl go to a dance? That's a little messed up.

Ultimately there's way too much not explained here so all we can do is guess.

Only in america. x.x Yea the mother was a bit mean to the kids, but it's hardly a reason to sue her over

Judge Judy (small claims court) eats kids like this for breakfast. She is truly the most entertaining thing on T.V. and I wish she had a shot at these demons.
while i don't disagree, i feel sometimes she purposefully gets into peoples faces for nothing, sometimes people DO answer the question as fast as they can but she has to interrupt and go "WFLKJW:LFKJW:LFKJW:FLJWSDEF ANSWER THE QUESTION AND NOTHING MOAARRR!"

but otherwise she usually pegs the people down a few notches who need it.

OT: While the mother does appear to have been that "relative" that everyone hates, this is some bullshit.

the day my kids sue me, is the day i failed as a parent

Let's judge people without knowing the full story! I mean, the media always has accurate reports and never distorts the truth in order to create controversy, right?
Oh please, like you've never judged someone without knowing all the facts before (don't even try to argue this, everyone has done this at some point in some form).

Back to the point though, seeing as this has come from the United States of 'sue the bastards' America I'm not really suprised that this happened as much as I'm finding it hilarious to read about.
I agree with the sentiment expressed by AndyFromMonday, and I can honestly say that I have never passed judgment on anyone without seeking out the facts first. One of the upsides of autism is that a lot of our brains actually work logically. Additionally, I find your argument that just because people have done something before means that it isn't wrong and shouldn't be stopped highly suspect.

Wow... I'm not supporter of physical punishment for children, but those kids could have used a few backhands.

Speaking as someone who is also located on the Autism spectrum (weirdly enough I work things through logically too) I can safely say that your claim to have never have passed judgement on someone without knowing all of the facts first is complete bullshit, we all do it (even without realising it) on a regular basis.

Picture a shabby, gruff, bearded and dishevelled man on a park bench. Odds are on that based on appearance alone you wouldn't elect to approach someone like that for a nice chat out of choice (in fact I'd wager that most of us with common sense would probably try to give him a wide birth and avoid eye contact), we all make judgements of other people based on little or no information all the time (it's essential that we can do things like this or we'd find problems like being mugged and being snagged by con artists would be far, far more common than they are).

Making judgements and evaluations of other people with little or no information doesn't automatically make you a bad person just as waiting for all the facts to come in before you take it upon yourself to be 'Judge, Jury and Executioner' doesn't make you a bloody Samaritan.
