Universe was rebooted. Somehow there are now old school Cybermen with modern-ish bodies.
no it wasnt

there were 2 types of Cybermen
one made in a paralel universe the others from a planet named Mondas in our universe....
mondas cybermen are almost extinct...these new ones managed to make it to our reality...but never explained how they reached space...

i sort of blame that on bad writing

Well I feel like chipping in my two cents,

I like the character idea of the Ponds and even though I think Karen Gillian can be a very hit and miss actress at times (mostly miss) the character of Amy Pond is good. The character of Rory is in my opinion bloody brilliant and compared to the only other New Who comparable character of Mikey, Rory is a legend.

River Song..... OH BOY River Song. The original idea behind her of being a future companion that the Doctor hadn't met yet was a good idea. It is the fact that the more they reveal about her the more I dislike her, if anything I would just stop writing her in the TV show and just throw her into Radio Drama's or books to explain her backstory and travels with the Doctor so that we never see her again.

Eleven is a good Doctor. Yeah he's a bit goofy and non-serious but considering they were writing Ten to be essentially a mad God towards the end Eleven is the right amount of whimsy the series needs right now. And "Let's Kill Hitler" proves he can do serious when he needs to, the Companion Scene anyone?

I'm neither pro or anti the writing on the new series, on the one hand you do have some naff aspects but on the other we got Spitfires in Space and Mark Sheppard. Although I think we can all agree that the Gaiman episode was probably the best one of this series so far.

Even Colin Baker had some fans, the fact is for better or worse (and if you've seen the latest Torchwood I would defy you to argue that it's for worse) we have lost Russell T Davis.
Colin Baker was actually a good Doctor, the fact that the BBC was experiencing massive budget cuts and terrible writing staff is why his run is usually slammed as being quite bad. That's like saying Sylvester McCoy was bad because he was only in that god awful TV movie, he was a fantastic doctor even in the movie and especially in the radio drama's done afterwards.

Also I definitely think it's for the better we don't have Davies back, because for the good stuff he can do he did give us the worst Doctor Who episode in the recent years,

Love and Monsters.

Everytime someone slags off the new series of Doctor Who, my faith in humanity dies a little.
The gangers episode was BRILLIANT, eeriely reminiscent of a pre-watershed 'The Thing'.
And the episode just gone, with the creepy dolls?
Phenomenal.
I think if anything they're trying LESS hard to make him iconic (a bizarre argument to begin with as he is the Doctor and therefore automatically iconic regardless of actor, even Colin Baker had some fans), the fact is for better or worse (and if you've seen the latest Torchwood I would defy you to argue that it's for worse) we have lost Russell T Davis.
So out went a whole heap of melodrama. Which in portions was nice, but frankly they made Tennants' Doctor out to be some sort of messiah.
The fact is, the head writer is now Stephen Moffat. The man responsible for arguably the best episodes of Eccleston (The Empty Child, The Doctor Dances), and the best episode of anything ever (Blink).
I also respect the hell out of his decision to limit the use of the Daleks. Frankly I was sick of them, and they don't stand up to the intelligent horror of the more recent series. I think they should be used for nostalgia only.
before we go any further i a mwilling to respond to your post a second time as soon as ive seen the new one as it premieres in Australia tomorrow...

Doctor Who isn't "dying". The BBC just released figures that show that Doctor Who is one of the top 3 money makers for them. It won't die any time soon.

Also, I like the new Who a lot, some of the stories aren't excellent. But then again, I've never tried to take the stories of a time travelling alien with two hearts who travels around in a 1963 police telephone box that is dimensionally transcendental, seriously!

The Cybermen have originated in different times on different planets. The "Cybus" Cybermen were not the first Cybermen, nor the last. Yes, I can't explain how they ended up in space, but if even one Cyberman survived and escaped Earth during 'Doomsday', it could have rebuilt the Cybermen. This happened in Torchwood where a Cyberman (Cyberwoman technically) survived. So it is possible. Also, I'm guessing they just look similar for continuities sake. But they were from an alternate universe so who knows where these ones came from!

also why was Rory wearing the roman centurion costume again? there was no need
Because why not?!
Rory is cool.

Rory is alright id give you that...but cohrence is what i ask from the Story and putting him in a centuirion outfit in this one makes no sense...

of course i know they are not the first ive seen torchwood i know they could rebuild but the thing is that they were from planet mondas in the classsic series but then died out...these new ones are epic and they amde it into the proper universe in the new doctor or the two doctors you know with that guy who thinks he is the doctor?

but ow the hell did they make it into space?
they wwerent even on the moon or anything they were deep in space as an established force.... thats my question
I honestly think it is because they are from the future, the previous Cybermen where from around our time (or even further back, remember the steam punk one). So think about what would happen if a handful of cybermen came into being in the future when space travel is not that big of a deal. would not be hard for such an efficient race (I used the term race lightly) to build a fleet ready for war.

The post wasn't terribly coherent but in essence I agree. Matt Smith is good but the show is just being poorly written. There's no genius plotline like Bad Wolf. Those were the days when the series would wrap up in a pair of dazzling episodes and I'd be yelling "No Way!" at the screen as I realised a multitude of things from past episodes I had barely noticed had actually been part of the whole thing all along. Can't exactly say the same here ... in the Let's Kill hitler episode they levered in Amy's supposed childhood friend in the same episode as her miraculous transformation into Riversong ... wow so exciting.
The next episode is much better - back to the old formula of having Amy and Rory drop off the face of the planet for a bit while the Doctor actually gets some screen time - but it's still not as good. David Tennant is still the best ... his transformation over the series from amusing carefree Doctor into world-weary ancient Doctor is incredible. Who knows, Matt Smith may get there but he's not getting any help from the scriptwriters.

....................................that scenario would be pretty awesome......from the future and al that ...that scenario you provided would make an extremely good episode....however they never made one like it..... or even explained it....and without that explanation they cant bring in a whole new type of cybermen either....

im asking for coherence not just random plot devices

The way I see it, good things come in like waves they have their build ups -Chris as the doctor - ,they have their peaks - David Tenant as the Doctor - and now it's simply we've built our expectations up way too high for the newest series.
Personally - I don't think it's BAD I just think not meeting our expectations so we're all kinda miffed about it. I have good faith that the Doctor after this one will be better (whenever he comes around - hopefully sooner rather than later, I ain't a big fan as Matt Smith as the doctor - I don't thin he fits the role too well).

I think the one thing about the 'let's kill Hitler' episode is I saw that and thought oh boy... really? Then he gets shoved in a cupboard for the entire episode while the story progresses, so it wasn't too painful.

Yes it was, the whole thing was basically re-written in the episode "The Big Bang". But now that I think about it there were space Cyberman present before that happened, so there's a flaw in my statement. Yeah they really do need to reconcile that as in the first Season of the new Doctor Who the ninth Doctor saw a classical Monda cyberman head and told Rose that they were extinct. The Cybus Cybermen came from the parallel univeres of course but I can't see how they'd make it to space.

i know how they made it into our reality but not how they made it into space...its like if the Doctor grew suddenly had an extra face in an episode... they cant just randomly throw it in. it might be Doctor who but you just cant do something on that level and expect dedicated fans to not question it.... there has to be some explanation to it...they should of done a serial of them reaching space before they suddenly threw them in their
