Before we go I'll just say I love Bioshock and the combat is pretty awesome jumping on skylines, zip zop zoopin around and exploding people's heads, but there's one fight that just throws this out of the window and feels like a bad call of duty knock off.
Lady Comstock...Currently fighting her in the bank for the second time. This time on 1999 mode. The doorway into the room is narrow so there's no cover, the pillars give no real cover, the side rooms and the landings above give no cover. Constantly respawning enemies that give no ammo or salt drops. Before I dropped down into the dead end room I made sure my salts and the ammo on both of my weapons was full. I spotted a burst fire rifle on the floor and my ammo for that one was full. When that ran out I found another weapon on the landing above, but nearly died picking it up. I have focused putting all of my bullets into Lady Comstock and she's still alive...or dead or... "dying died will die." So far the other fights have been frustrating, but my deaths and "oh shit" moments were caused by me and my fuck ups. This fight is just so bad! The only way I've been able to make any sort of progress is hiding outside of the main room and taking pot shots at her. Or I can try to run in and waste my ammo on respawning enemies for no reward. Getting cornered by the herd of respawning bodies and get pummeled by her burst attack when she spawns more adds. I feel like there's very little to do for strategy, flanking or even hopping around on hooks to get out of fire. Although when fighting her in front of the Comstock Mansion the fight isn't nearly as bad due to there being tears to use.
So that being said am I doing something wrong? I'm sure plenty have breezed right through the fight, but I just keep banging my head against the wall and I don't feel like I'm playing Bioshock anymore.

And I guess if anyone's up for a bit of discussion: Boss fights in a game that just sucked or boss fights that had no business being in game. IE Deus Ex:HR

My strategy at that point was to let the resurrected guys come into the vault, kill them in there, then physically block the door way so Mrs Comstock couldn't get in to raise them again while I took potshots at her.

It was a near thing though. I ended up having to melee her to death.

Well I got past this battle by running out of the circular vault door, hiding behind some cover and taking shots at her with a Sniper Rifle. She literally just hovered in one spot, occasionally screaming at me while I kept popping her in the head. Not very glamorous, but it worked. You might want to keep this strategy in mind for another encounter later as well. These fights were the second-worst part of the game, in my opinion...it sounds like a lot of people didn't have trouble with what I'm thinking of as the first, which is the last battle of the game, but that's for you to decide on yourself.

I tried to make a stand in the vault for a while (on Hard), but my resources dwindled with each death. So I finally decided to just haul ass past all the enemies and towards the bank entrance where there was a Dollar Bill machine. I restocked my shotgun ammo and salts, then was good to go.

The thing that got me in that part was the Crow dude before her. That was kind of hyped up for a bit (you'd see him around corners and whatnot for 3-4 rooms before you finally fought him. I was assuming there was gonna be more when I fought him, so I kind of just...used way too much to kill him. I thought that was gonna be the "boss fight" of the bank. So I didn't have much to work with against Lady Comstock.

But yeah, Murder of Crows and a shotty actually makes the fight manageable. Crows keep the minions at bay, and the lady herself isn't that threatening.

The fight that destroyed me was the first Handyman. Good god. I hate to admit this, but I died almost a dozen times there.

Edit:

For that part, I did a few things that made it easy.

One: I had a Gear equipped that gave me temporary invulnerability when jumping down from a skyline. So I was taking no damage most of the time. I think Gear is randomized, though, so I can't tell people to count on that.

Two: Use Songbird on the Patriots. They take way too long to kill yourself, even with an RPG. Songbird has a hidden cooldown for usage, but it's relatively short when you use it to take out infantry/Patriots or the smaller gunships. When you use Songbird to take out a Zeppelin, however, the cooldown is incredibly long. For this reason, I only used him for Patriots and gunships with the rocket launchers. I handled the zeppelins myself, rushing in and out (I'd possess the Patriot inside if there was one, and that would keep me safe long enough to sabotage the engine) and then getting back in the action in time to likely use Songbird on another Patriot wave.

Three: Took out the regular soldiers myself. The aforementioned Skyline invulnerability Gear made this simple. For the heavy soldiers (they attack from the walkways on the side of the ship), I just blasted them off the ship with Undertow.

It took me three tries to get it. The first time I was just overwhelmed with everything that was going on. The second time I used Songbird on a Zeppelin and he was unavailable to use for a very long time, so Patriots just stormed the ship and wrecked things. The third time, however, went without a hitch.

Use return to sender, as long as you keep the vigor button held down it will absorb any damage both physical and elemental. Chuck the collected clumps at her which will kill any enemies nearby which will keep her rooted at that spot constantly reviving them. Don't forget that you can duel wield while using return to sender, so you can dish out damage while being shielded.

Using the gear that restores health on kill and salts on kill helps a lot since you can use her respawning minions to your advantage and farm them a bit. The Murder of Crows makes them a lot more vulnerable and if you have the corpse propagation upgrade for it you can make one trap go a long way.

I;m having a lot of trouble fighting her the first time. But I'm probably not using the cover properly. I keep getting her down to a tiny bit of health and then I die it's just really frustrating.

Note to everyone: Sniper rifle beats all. It's hard to fathom this if you haven't been using the sniper, but she gives you all the time in the world while she's resurrecting people. With the upgrades, you can just load clip after clip into her head for she slowly goes up and then down. Once I found her rhythm of resurrection, all of her fights ended quickly. Btw... I haven't bought anything from Dollar Bill because I'm going for both achievements.

Seriously, sniper rifle owns everything.

...but now... I'm there... final fight in 1999 mode. Just had to start over for the second time... and I was so close the first time. Elizabeth actually cost me the win: it was the bottom of the ninth, the core had just a few hits left until failure, and I was trying to call in Songbird to finish off the patriots... she decided to throw me some ammo in that second and I lost during the animation. The rpg does nothing, NOTHING! But Newton's Law always staggers.

The second time I got creamed. I forgot about a gunship.

I wasn't even on hard and had difficulty there so this strategy might not be a huge help. But the difficulty here is the infinitely spawning henchmen. If you kill them with fire or while they are stunned by lightning they won't come back. Eventually you can win on attrition as long as you can keep your salts stocked up or have a different method of causing fire or lightning damage.

Captcha: Easy as cake.

Now that's just freaky.

My strategy on normal was to kill the minions with my hand cannon and then took shots at Lady Comstock with a carbine. Devil's Kiss worked well to help as well.

Well, I certainly found her tedious to fight but I wouldn't call it hard. Then again, I played it on normal. I haven't tried it on hard or 1999 mode yet, but the Charge + Shotgun/Heater to the face seemed to work fairly well. My charge was fully upgraded so it functioned a bit like Charge in Mass Effect. The way I had my gear set up, there was a bit of stacking damage. I had the "set enemies on fire with melee" gear, plus the "shock enemies when you kill them" gear plus "shock upon landing from aerial attack" gear, though I don't know if that last one applies to Charge or not. Hitting a zombie before hitting her gave crowd control and some splash damage to her, helping a bit. But it as mostly the shield recharge + invulnerability that helped the most.

I used Bucking Bronco to get her summoned minions out of the way as soon as she resurrects them, and then unloaded the shotgun in her face as many times as I could. Rinse and repeat. I think a lot of people who have trouble with this fight make the mistake of focusing too much attention on her minions. Bucking Bronco will stop them from charging at you without taking the time to kill them.

Why the Bucking Bronco didn't I think of this, even on normal mode she took me a good 10 mins to kill...

God, I hated this boss battle so much! After dying numerous of times, more than I'd like to admit, I begin to partake in a new approach. I equipped myself with any piece of gear that helped with melee damage (+70% chance to cause enemy to be engulfed in flame), Overkill (creates a string of electricity that transfer between enemy that are close), and upgraded the Charge vigor with the shotgun.

After dying so much, I sincerely wanted to punch this ***** in the face (1999 mode had my hopes drowning for awhile);however, after equipping new gear and upgrading the Charge vigor and shotgun, I charged punched her in the face and followed it with shotgun blasts. REPEAT. Not even lying to you, Lady Comstock went down in under 12 seconds. I used this approach for the next two fights, handymen, and patriots. I finished 1999 mode with a breeze afterwards.

Good luck, I know it can be disappointing at times, just keep trying.

I just spammed charge for all it was worth with a few shot from the handcanon. It became really easy after using that tactic.
