ahh...the count is dupuis. no he's not the killer and he didn't involved in direct way. it doesn't matter if he got killed or not. his fault was not telling hawke that he knew who was the white lily killer

Seriously? Aveline is probably the most "real", fleshed out character in the whole game, unlike the oversexed (Isabella) or outright retarded (Merrill) females in the game.

Her advancement throughout the story of the game, unlike the other characters who apparently don't change at all and have no personal agenda over the years makes me believe she either was the first character designed for the game and the others were just rushed in or the guy writing her (the same guy who wrote Garrus for Mass Effect btw) is a genius who really cares for his characters.
I found Aveline to be my favourite companion, not to mention the most useful (I played rogue first time so I needed a tank).

But even the characters that were fairly one-note (Fenris, Isabela) had great interaction and dialogue with other party members. I basically considered Aveline, Varric and Hawke to be the main characters with everyone else as the supporting cast.
i love aveline "donic" quest especially if you bring isabela, hawkes face was priceless :D

I tend to agree with a lot of people here. I really liked Orsino, i thought he was generally trying to lead and do the right thing.
He even offered to have himself and the mages imprisoned indefinitely to spare them being killed.

Having him turn to blood magic at the last minute really irked me.

One of the biggest fail for me though was how in Act I you take Flemeth to the Free Marches
and before that she talks about our
destiny and all this crap and then she turns into a dragon
and flies off never to be seen again in the entire game. Like WTF?

What was she even in the story for? and how is she known so well by the daelish?

So, an update since I just beat the game tonight!

So, Merill's quest. Jesus was that depressing. Plus, I'm pretty sure my Dalish Warden isn't going to be happy that I pretty much just slaughtered his entire clan and family other then Merill. Though, it wasn't my fault. They attacked me first.

The 3rd Act, while I can see where it fell apart at the end with the DBZ jumping and glowy red eyes and whatnot going on, was pretty awesome. Full of a lot of epic moments, that I kept loving. I was a Mage, and ended up siding with the Knight-Commander Meridith at the end.

I'm STILL trying to figure out what exactly Anders hoped to accomplish with blowing up the Chantry...yeah, I don't agree with the Chantry 100%, but BLOWING IT UP wasn't exactly the smartest path to take. Considering it contained the 1 person who could help the situation. "It was too late", well yeah! It is now! I know he wants them to be free and all, but now they are going to be scorned by EVERYBODY...so I stabbed his dumb self.

I sided with the Templars because it seemed other than their leader that they were doing a pretty good job considering that basically every single Mage was using blood magic. Heck, even Meredith made a lot of sense when she enacted the Rite of Annulment. Quite literally EVERY SINGLE ONE of the mages turned to blood magic. When Anders did his own thing I executed him on the spot.

What made it confusing is at the end it says that the actions gave rise to the mages all over the world to stand against the Templars. WTF? I fucking massacred them brutally, every single last one, for the continual use of blood magic that they used through the whole goddamn game. Why would anyone think "oh gee that's a great idea" after seeing others become abominations and then all die. I would have thought it would serve a pretty good lesson about the perils of blood magic.

Other than that, I couldn't stand the passive nature of the combat in DA:O (auto attack, have mages do everything and win) so I ultimately preferred DA 2.

Yeah, during the epilogue, it said that the Mages saw me as the potential for what Mages could do or something...wait, you mean side with Templars and slaughter all the other Mages in the tower? Yeah, I suppose I could be seen as that. It was kinda neat seeing the Templar all bow before me, and Dragon Age 3 will be neat if Miss. Mage-Leading-Templar Hawke takes a play in it.

And I don't know why they rallied behind Anders either, I thought he made a monumentally stupid decision that made me feel like the Templar were right, and killed him right afterward...yeah Mages, that is a CLEAR sign to rebel.

Most revolutions begin with a big loss. :) I thought it made sense, there was a very delicate balance between the two sides and basically anything big would set it all off, no matter who won that first battle. You could imagine other mage circles wanting to avenge what happened. It's a bit of a fanwank but I interpreted it this way.

Honestly, I can certainly understand the fair share of criticism this game has received. Myself, I'm a lvl 17 mage, in act 3, and have just uninstalled the game, because I can't continue. It feels like going to work to grind this piece of crap. And after hearing even from fan boys that the ending was disappointing, heck, I'm seriously worried, since I've been disappointed right from the start.

First, I started to play up to lvl 7 as a mage, until I realized "Hey, this is really boring." So I rerolled a rogue. Same result, this was boring as hell. Then a warrior. Didn't matter, since the combat mechanics sucks.

The BIG problem is the game revolves altogether around the combat (well, that's how it turns out when you can't walk 5 meters without being assaulted by 50 smugglers in 3 waves). So the game just can't fail in this key aspect of the game. Well, too bad the combat SUCKS then. It doesn't matter if you're a mage, rogue or warrior, you're going to autoattack mobs until you cry. It's ALL about the frigging cooldowns, which are absurdly long.

High level mages get away a little bit more from autoattacking, but it's still pretty bad. Cunning based rogues focused on backstabbing and such, and twohanded warriors are going to autoattack until they cry. Sword and shield are so incredibly dull to play you might kill yourself from the experience.

You get boatloads of sustained abilities, but who the heck wanted to autoattack in the first place? "You get +10% autoattack damage!" That's like garnishing turds with sprinkles. Apparently, it's a little bit more "fun" in the console versions, where you button mash your autoattacks, while you in the PC version occassionaly press "R", yawns some more and then fire away some spell that FINALLY got out of cooldown.

And tactics, forget about tactics, since EVERY FRIGGING FIGHT has 2-5 frigging waves in it! Graaaaaaagh! It is all about the cooldowns anyway, so just spam away and... autoattack until you can do something again.

The other characters are as interesting as chewing cardboard, the side missions are even more pathetic than you would expect in a MMORPG, it's "gather 5 rat tails" in bunches here, which is just... if you don't have the time to fill in even mediocre missions, just DON'T try to make the game looking longer than it is. The main story is amazingly un-epic. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against grill stick adventuring, but when it's this boring, I really don't know.

I'm so frigging sick of Kirkwall and its surroundings that I might throw up. The same cave, warehouse and back alley, over and over and over and over and over again. Seriously, is the WHOLE GAME revolving around this dung pile of a city?

This repetitive crap doesn't even come close to being a worthy followup of the first game. Combat is boring as hell, the game is repetitive as hell, the characters are as uninspiring as the main story and the side missions feel like they are just there to make the main story look better.

And don't even get me started on the main character. Is he/ she an idiot, or does Bioware believe the people playing their games are idiots? Three standardized, incredibly black & white answers, where all three feel incredibly stupid pretty much all the time. If I could, I would let my main character be mute. Better to shut up and be a suspected fool, than opening up and remove all doubts.

What was the whole point of importing your character save from game 1? I've heard maybe ONE VAGUE reference from the first adventure. Why even call it a sequel?

The graphics is simply but embarrassing if you don't play it on Windows 7. I don't, so the game looks like it's 10 years old, on a 10 year old computer. I don't really care about graphics that much, but when everything else is crap, it only highlights the amount of fail.

A game can't get more consolified and dumbified than this. I loved the first game, I'm a big roleplay nerd, but this pile of dung? I can't stand any of it.

3/10. I'm extremely disappointed.

Loved the cameos from the characters from the first game. Alistair is a bit on the ugly side with the new models, but Leliana was MUCH improved, and had a sweet scene. Zevran was...Zevran. Got me a few good laughs at his section.
I'm actually impressed with how much actually transferred over with my DA:O save.
I also was surpised to see so many cameos as well especially Zevran - considering I killed him on the play through I uploaded... I always found his character a bit annoying (that might put me in a minority)and I ended up killing him in most of my playthroughs. I wasn't too happy to see him make a reappearance. I guess Bioware looked over the fact that some people might have actually killed the guy in Origins.

In Act 3 a group of "nobles" from Antiva show up out side of the Red Rose. Talking to them can start a quest that leads you to Zevran.

I will try to remember for my second playthrough.

What i do find a shame is whatever group you decide to join (mercs or thiefs) it doesn't have any effect on the crafting npc's you know. It would have been more fun if the crafting npc's were named differently depending what side you picked.

Overall, I love the game. I can't say it's better or worse than DA:O though as they both have their own pros and cons but neither is perfect. I do agree that the game, particularly the re-use of art assets and the third act in general, feels a bit rushed.. but Bioware has already admitted that the game was rushed because of the demand they felt after how surprisingly well DA:O sold.

Isabella was great, and the romantic arc with her was actually really well done. Her dialogue with Aveline, both random in world chatter and in conversation scenes, was absolutely hilarious. Even her dialogue with Alistair in the meeting with him where they comment about how much different the other looks in a nice gentle breaking of the 4th wall was great (and I usually hate 4th wall breaking, especially in RPGs where immersion is such a key factor).

Actually, there isn't a character in DA2 that I didn't like and I wish I could have used all of them more often. This is in complete contradiction to my DA:O experience where I found some characters virtual throw aways (Dog, Sten) and some just generally annoying or unlikable (Oghren, Wynne, Loghain). I'm already planning ahead what I'll do in my second DA2 playthrough.. how to incorporate more characters while re-experiencing my favourite moments from play 1. People complain about how Bioware re-uses the same plot lines and characters over and over again, but when the writing and voice acting is this damn good I find myself not really caring.

Anywho, I keep reading about how you can save your sibling but I had my sister die from the taint in play 1. Do you just not bring them into the Deep Roads with you to keep them alive? That seems almost too easy.

Also, sounds like there's no way to save your mother, right?

I positively loved the game. At the end of the game, I was a level 24 Archer Shadow Assassin and had upped my Dexterity and cunning so much that I was getting auto-crits doing no less than 700 damage per attack (1500+ for my stronger attacks, and I don't even know how much for cross-class combo attacks).

I went with default Serah (Korrine) Hawke. I really enjoyed her voice actor. She pulled off the snarky responses very well. I sided with the mages, but kind of regretted that at the end (WTF ANDERS!!! I had a romance going with him and then he pulled that shit and then had to have an awkward conversation: "You remember that time when I said I love you no matter what and that I support you always? Yeah? Well...I didn't really expect you to test my limits on that...").

I didn't really enjoy the Origins cameos. They felt pretty forced. It was all "Oh, hi! I'm one of your old friends!" and then Hawke goes "Me? I don't know you. Who are you talking to?" and then Alistair/Lelianna/Zevran just wink at the camera. It was good seeing the characters again, though.

That bugged me as well. They spent the whole game showing us that there are truly good mages who want to be free but can resist the temptation to use forbidden magic, and then at the end of the game just had rampant Abominations and even the fair-minded Orsino succumbed. I understood that freeing the mages meant that some would abuse their freedom, but it seems like Bethany was the only level-headed one of the bunch. I felt like that when Grace showed up again and tried to kill me too.

I love the game but at the same time there is a lot of stuff in it that I have a problem with and while there has been improvements in certain area's it still isn't as good as the first game. One thing that annoys me the most is that all the cave, estate and underground caves/hideouts all have the same layout and atmosphere and you can't even fully explore all area's of these identical caves due to doors you can't interact with or some rubble blocking the path. I could overlook that if you were not being sent to a cave, estate or underground place for almost every side quest that exists. Like the Bone Pit quest you're sent to a mine in the Bone Pit to find out what's happened to the workers, you go there expecting it to look like what it's supposed to look like: A mine. But it doesn't, it looks like the cave you went in about 20 minutes ago for a different side quest.

I was also really disappointed with the ending. The way the story being told with Varric telling the story of Hawke's rise to power I thought after all that Cassandra would go find Hawke and it would continue from there in the present. But it doesn't it just... Ends. So now I have to wait for DLC or an expansion pack for it to actually end properly.
