Has anybody else noticed the sharply declining quality of Spongebob Squarepants cartoons?
He used to up there on the subtle humor scale & i thought that the show was very well put together & quite funny.
Now, it seems the episodes are shorter & pointless, leaving me thirsty for more & dissapointed, like a cheap comic strip. No real plots, characters have lost their "spunk" and a lot of the dialogue seems to be random shouting for attention.

Maybe you're just growing up and losing your interest in stupid, stupid things.

The creators caught the Popularity Syndrome.

Many people can argue that once something gets famous or popular, the general quality of it drops simply because they're trying to please too large of a fan base.
Then again, Spongebob is mainly targeted towards children. They're the only ones who love spongebob no matter what happens.

That show, when it first came out, made you feel like you had to be high for watching it. Now you really have to be high for watching it... It's blowing my budget :( I need to save up for the next spongebob movie *cries* lol jk

Look, the show has been on for 10 years.

It's a childrens show. That ran for 10 years. A shows has to be incredibly successful for that to happen. However, after 10 years they have run out of decent material.

But hey, it still entertains kids, and it's still better than the other shit kids could be watching, so no big deal.

The Simpsons isn't so great anymore either.
I don't know about the Simpsons now. Ever since the movie I haven't paid attention to that show.

Not because it's bad now, I have no idea if it's good or not. It's just that I've seen he show so much that I'm just sick of it.

They don't suck but the episodes are nowhere as great as the older ones. I don't know why they didn't just cancel it while they where ahead instead of letting it be milked to death.
Well the obvious answer is profits. The show still generates income, so they're going to keep making it. They may not actually want to do so, but the network may be forcing them into it.

I mean, what else would they have to fill the empty time slot? Every show I see introduced on Fox usually goes off in less than a season.

The best shows are the ones that decide to quit before they have to "jump the shark". Spongebob is falling the way of many programs before it.

I'm with you. the show has some hits on the comedy radar ocassionally, but I credit that to the laws of probability more than anything else.

It's gone the way of the Simpsons and Fairly Odd Parents. I'll remember Spongebob as a cornerstone in the building of my own future nostalgia.

My friend had a theory--many of the older, better ones had a guy named "Kaz" in the credits. The newer episodes lack the name of this person. She postulated a connection between the declining quality and the disappearance of "Kaz," but I'm not so sure.

It's still a heck of a lot better for kids than "iCarly," "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" (glad that died quietly), "The Fairly OddParents," the show with the sailor kid and the talking whale... and... well, basically anything with Dan's Schneider's name in the credits.
You kidding? Grim Adventures was great, loaded with references specifically for parents and genuinely witty humor (although more obvious stuff for the kids as well, obviously). It took a little while to get good, but once it hit it's stride, it was one of my favorite shows. Note, as a frame of reference, my other favorite shows at the time were Law and Order and The Daily Show.

EDIT:Although I agree with iCarly, absolute trash. And Fairly Odd Parents was OK for a while before sliding into mediocrity.
