So, my fellows escapees, in the late 90's, whilst I was but an apple-cheeked youngster I bought a PS1. Along with it I got a game called Spyro the Dragon. 'Twas but a simple platformer, but oh so many hours I've spent playing that game. I tought it was an underrated star.

But now, my fellow men, I ask you: Have you played it, liked it or even heard of it?

TLDR; Spyro the Dragon, opinions?

I had a demo for the first one and I absolutely loved it, never got around to playing the full game though.

One of my ex girlfriends really liked it and I watched her play for a bit at her place a fair while back.

They've kind of killed it now.

Of course. I played 1 & 2 to death, 100% completion. And yes, they are preparing to slaughter the poor purple sod in that hideous incarnation that was unveiled more recently. Sad times.

It ruled my childhood alongside Crash Bandicoot. Spyro 2 was my favourite, Spyro 1 was great, Spyro 3 was OK but had too many other characters to play as. It went downhill after Enter the Dragonfly, though A Hero's Tail wasn't too bad.

(sigh) Insomniac must be cringing with what Activision are taking the character now.

PS1 titles rocked spyro 1,2, and 3
but they've milked the proverbial dragon so much since then they've killed spyro

I have it, and I played it yesterday actually.
I really love it!
The second one was good too, but I don't have it. :(

I did play the third, and found it funny, but not as good as the first two..
And the rest of them... They have dissapointed me too much.
:(

Played the first 3 on the PS1 to 100% a few times and loved every bit of it. I won't say anything about the ones that came after since I haven't played them, but I heard they were not as good as the original trilogy. Also I hate his new re-design.

I had a 9something year old Goldfish named Sypro. I had won him at a carnival. Won or stole after the guy had closed his whole booth. Same thing. Really.

Good grief, they have slayed the franchise, haven't they? I got the first one for the PS2 as a gift (Year of the Dragon fly, I think it was called) and by GOD did it suck! I haven't bought a new one since, and I still live under the impression the first and the third are the best of the series.

Interestingly enough, what I can gather, people seem to prefer the second to the third. Personally, I find the second lacking, because of its simpleness, "only" 100% completion, SILLY characters and the gameplayprolonging of having to by new skills every now and then. The third handled this much better, because it felt quite natural that a new character with another skillset should not be available from the get-go. Or rather, it felt relevant.

Of course I loved spyro on the PS1. but I agree that the recent ones have just been cringe worthy. Although same can be said for a lot of franchises.

I will however admit that I kind of enjoyed the latest crash bandicoot on the 360. mostly because it was just taking the piss out of itself.

side note captch: food etteral.....wth? dammit I'm hungry now

I loved Spyro, back in the days. I played the three first games for PS1 and then when the PS2 came out, I continued playing Insomniac games with Ratchet & Clank. I haven't played Spyro for several years, since I heard they weren't good anymore and I don't want to ruin those memories.

" Trouble with the trolley? "
Those words still haunt my sister to this very day after spending an entire afternoon trying to beat that fucking trolley.
