There is no reason to insult a person's sexuality for your own use. It makes you look like a child. I have been in a debate team for over eight years now. Never once have I met someone so ignorant to use words such as "gay" to try and prove a point. As for literature? Where has anyone written someone like that? No adult who wants to be taken seriously would do such a thing, unless he is pandering to the lowest common denominator, and even then most won't because they aren't complete and utter ignorant homophobes.

Grow up.
Again, that's kind of the POINT. go reread my post. Note the phrase is encased by quotations, alongside the points I'm disagreeing with.
As explained, it is a device to accuse Square of being intellectually bankrupt idiots.

From what I've seen of A Realm Reborn it looks bloody great, but I just can't bring myself to invest in a Japanese game... I think I might be a bit racist? After Final Fantasy XII and how stupid looking everyone dressed (which is strange because I usually do not consider that to be important, but for XII it was enough to turn me off the game) I just couldn't handle Japanese games any more.

I did like Deus Ex and Tomb Raider but those aren't exactly Japanese games. They held firm to Western design and story elements.

Ok, I don't really care about the current conversation, it's getting a bit heated for me. I'll just leave it at "they've published some of my favorite recent games (DE:HR, Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs)" so I at least have a little input. Also, I thought FFXIII was pretty good as long as it was bombarding me with story. Once the open world started, the combat was no longer worth it, cause I knew I had a WHILE before getting anymore story.

But now to the point of my post.

Ponyholder... are you serious?

Have you ever watched TV? Fuck, is this your first time on the internet? Did you not go to a high school?

Oh my god. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Jesus H. Fuck.

It doesn't make him look like a kid. But what you're saying does make you look like a stuck up 15 year old that just learned about the GLBTA and decided to be some overzealous white knight about anything that could be misconceived as insulting.

Emphasis on "mis".

None of my GAY FRIENDS would have reacted negatively to what he posted.

Holy shit.

*points at Call of Duty* They are doing it far worse then Sqaure Enix. At least with Square you can tell each game is its own distinct entity. It actually has characters that don't look quite as cookie cutter as CoDs and hell CoD even knows this now as the entire cast of the next game is gonna be this "ghost" type person. Final Fantasy XIII wasn't as bad as you think and the combat actually is more engaging then say *puts up forcefield* Final Fantasy VI. XIII-2 actually was an amazing game and it didn't nullify the last one with time travel. It did however have a twist ending that I didn't see coming. There was no Deus Ex Machina at the end to save the day.

All the Kingdom Hearts games are actually pretty solid. I don't see what you thought was so "abysmal" about 358/2 Days. Heck if nothing else the story was pretty damn good showing you where Roxas comes from. As for all their development hell projects I don't know what is going on. Consider this though. They back pedaled and fixed XIV, they are finally getting KH 3 and versus XIII or rather XV off the ground so perhaps something is finally moving and shaking in there to get them headed in the right direction.
Squenix PUBLISHES Call of Duty.

FFXIII WAS as bad as I think. Because I have played it. All of it. The game can be beaten by repeatedly tapping A and holding forward on the control stick. This is the OPPOSITE of engagement. The story, start to finish, makes no sense. By "makes no sense" I mean the characters actions, the basic plot, the backstory, all of it, fail any logical examination. XIII-2 is just as stupid as the first, with the same combat, and if you didn't see that "twist" coming, you have no experience with any literature, and that's sad.

358/2 was abysmal because it was ugly (forgivable if the rest holds up), the combat didn't fucking work unless you were on the ground, the 5 enemies in the game are copy-pasted ad infinitum and called "new" foes, the enemy behavior zones were so small they could be hit out of their spawn area, despawn, and force you to fight them all over again from full, which is a problem since this game had the same problem of too much enemy health that XIII had. The levels were cramped and the arbitrary programmer walls didn't make sense for half of the missions. The "story" is the worst part, though. It tells us NOTHING about Roxas we didn't already know from KH2, tells us nothing of the story happening behind the scenes of Sora's adventure, and instead gives us a character who was never mentioned before and never will be again. It is a COMPLETE waste of time.

... Uh...

... Activision publishes CoD...

EDIT: Wait, I just looked it up, when did this happen? How come their names aren't anywhere on the boxes? Is it a joint venture or something?

DOUBLE EDIT: Japanese release. Gotcha.

Still, they probably have little to say in development.

What was wrong with the costumes in XII? they were the most sensible outfits in a long time. Not that I'm saying you're wrong for not liking them, everyone has their own taste in clothing, im just curious what turned you off to them

Are we certain we were playing the same game?

Final Fantasy 12 that introduced no battle transitions. The main character who I honestly considered the most bland tag-along ever wore nothing but armoured pants and a tiny vest. The bunny lady dressed up in a damn BDSM costume and the "knight" had this pointless metal shoulder clasp while wearing a clown outfit.

The only character who looked remotely suitable was the Sky Pirate, everyone else looked like they ran through a laundry and then a kitchen, taking two random pieces from each room to wear.

Um... no one said anything about battle transitions... o_O
Vaan's vest is just that... a vest. It's stylized, sure, but there are real people NOW wearing vests that small. I agree it looks stupid, but its not exactly a skirt made of belts. Fran's in metal armor. It's skimpy, but that's par for the course. Bosch (how could you forget HIS name? Vaan only shouts it 40000 times) has his non-dominant shoulder armored. That's an extremely common thing. Your weapon arm is being defended by the weapon, you use the armor to defend your empty side against attack. I won't pretend the waistcoat being open from the bottom is normal though.

But alright. I see why that stuff could rub you the wrong way

.... Wait, what?

As much as I haven't beaten a single Breath of Fire game(Something new ALWAYS distracts me from it once I get though 50-75% of it, at least with 1-3), I still respect the series very much. I'm really hoping you somehow horribly misspelled a sequel to a Sqeenix ip I don't really care about...

Thank fuck I grew out of the Final Fantasy series before it had a chance to break my heart in this manner.

I mentioned it so we both know what game we are talking about. There have been a lot of Final Fantasy games, after all.

Still looks stupid and is incredibly impractical for what he is doing. A skirt made of belts would at least offer protection. But that's beside the point, he's completely happy wearing practical armoured pants, but when it comes to his vital organs? Fuck that, let's wear a shirt that exposes or well toned 14-16 year old hairless abdominals.
Fran's in metal armor. It's skimpy, but that's par for the course.
Par what course? Completely impractical attire? Have you seen what the soldiers in this were wearing? While the style on their armour was strange it at least was clearly protective.
Bosch (how could you forget HIS name? Vaan only shouts it 40000 times) has his non-dominant shoulder armored. That's an extremely common thing. There is perfectly functional armour that he could wear but no, he's wearing an upside-down Technicolor waistcoat and has a tiny piece of metal on his shoulder, offering minimal protection at best and looking stupid at worst.

But alright. I see why that stuff could rub you the wrong way
I would hope so. How they dress is entirely impractical. What's worse, they look like clowns in the process.

Yeah they publish it in Japan. Doesn't mean they have any actual authority on making the game.

The story in XIII didn't make sense at the beginning however by the end if you read the journal entries it did make sense. That however was a bad way to go about the story. As for XIII-2 it told you everything you needed to know if you played the last one without resorting to reading the journals for necessary info. I do have experience with literature. The reason I didn't see that twist coming is because of the track record Square Enix and the expectations I had already built in. I didn't think that was going to happen for what appeared to be a sequel and the final leg of that journey.

You are wrong big time on the story part for 358/2 Days. It showed us Axel and Roxas' relationship before he was put in the digital Twilight Town and why Axel pursues him and gets pissed off at him near the end. The first thing I did after finishing that game was play the prologue of KH 2 and guess what? It actually made sense now that we have some firm context. As for Xion they are mentioning her again and bringing her back or did you not play Birth by Sleep? As for the look the pre-rendered cutscenes were pretty impressive for the DS. It was an early or mid launch game so they hadn't quite got the DS up to snuff. It actually looks better then I thought it was going to honestly. I think you've just reached a bitter point with them. Best to just cut off yourself from Square Enix is they are pissing you off so much. Don't be captain bring down on everyone else's fun. :)

Welp, SE remains easily my favourite publisher. I love every FF game except for FFXIII-2 (which I didn't hate, I just thought it was rather average) and FFXIV (1.0 I mean, it undeniably sucked, I'm loving ARR a whole heap, I quit WoW after 8 years to play it). I'm hugely excited to play FFXV. Ditto KH3. Yes, it's a shame it's not out yet.

Do you have a different opinion? That's cool. FF games are not for everyone, most definitely. Do you think my opinion is invalid? Then you are a fool who lacks the imagination and intellect to comprehend that different people have different preferences.

Hey look, a reasonable message of dissent. *shakes your hand*

I don't like MMOs in general, so FFIV is not for me, but I still want to try it. I just find the advertising campaign offensive, not the game itself
