A few DAYS? I thought it was just announced!!?
There was a lot of stuff floating around about this game months and months ago. Even some gameplay footage from quite some time ago.
Well bawls. I guess I'll just wait for some reviews then.
Goddamn it squeenix, just cuz it's not FF doesn't mean you shouldn't advertise it.
I think it's more that it isn't made by Square Enix, they're just publishing it. Nier got the same treatment. I guess they don't think it will sell well enough even with advertising for it to warrent the costs of advertisement. It's a damn shame eitherway.

I'm guessing the lack of hype stems from the fact that it's a Square-Enix game. But the features do sound interesting...I'll have to see if it pans out.
It's coming to the PS3 too.

I hope it catches on and gets some attention, having tons of people playing online would be great for this game.

Well, you'll be able to kick people from your game, of course. If someone takes a character off for a roam through an empty corridor, kick 'em.
Problem with this, they may actually be doing something legitimate and you just misinterpreted what they are trying to do.

Very true, and a very good point.
Multiplayer Law: Kick functions never work.

This game needs to just...dissapear...too many jerks online as it is. Unless of course it actually cleans up the FPS scene a bit, then I'm all for it.

Here's a good, long gameplay video showing the game in the late stages of development:

http://www.giantbomb.com/ask-me-anything-mindjack/17-3580/?page=8&sort=first

Personally, I don't think it looks bad. We're all probably tired of cover based shooting, but this seems to add a fresh new element. Not just being able to grab new allies or rapidly switch your position on the battlefield by mindjacking others, but it also seems some of the mechs and other things (like the cyborg gorilla, featured in that vid) play drastically differently, which should help keep things fresh and entertaining.

The mechanics seem to work smoothly enough - the guy playing it comments on how the cover/running/shooting all works perfectly.

That said, whether the game will stand the test of time remains to be seen. Even the most innovative feature needs innovative application to keep it from going stale, and if the game is just a 10 hour shooting gallery the novelty may wear off fast. But, if the game can keep things fresh and creative, then combined with the evidently functional mechanics, it could be fantastic. Perhaps I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but I have high hopes.

Sounds like Syndicate Wars :D

Syndicate series were awesome n.n

You had a tool ... think it was a 'neuralizer' (Edit: 'Persuadatron'). Your agents could use them to control people ... if you turned a crowd of people into friendlies, they'll pick up the guns that we're dropped by enemy soldiers/agents you killed and use them too. So some missions you ended with an armed mob of people wandering the streets ... usi9ng the people as human shields for your wandering agents and as additional firepower :D

"MindWave the crappiest innovation name ever! Allows you to hack into NPCs, mechs and even creatures! You do this by turning into a wanderer thats really cloud and you can't be harmed!!! This game is amazing buy it NOAW!"

Yea a great marketing plan Square Enix you keep doing that.

OT: I remember seeing some info and trailers about MindJack a while back and at first thought it might be good but when I heard it was being made by square enix and after seeing their track record lately I'm not so sure. Also the primates kinda make me want to facepalm at how much sense this game doesn't make.

Honestly this game is representative of a new motif for Square Enix. Its kind of hard to get used to seeing SE as a publisher having several studios working underneath them.

Honestly and at the same time regrettably I think its going to have a positive impact on SEs reputation as people wont be able to continue to keep such a narrow view of them as a whole. Seeing games that go outside of SEs norm such as Just Cause 2 and Deus Ex which will be well received will apply those positive results to the publisher by virtue of having their logo splattered across products that are viewed favorably.

Perhaps this is a better role for SE to be taking by allowing studios to develop under them and give them the freedom to develop.

What I would really love to see is these smaller studios start to influence the parent publisher, and maybe just maybe the reputation of Final fantasy can regain just a little bit of the shine it once held for so many.

OT: Perhaps this is another NIER?

I can't be sure, having not played it, but I can comment on the fact that Square has been creating -other- genre games (besides rpg) for a long time and none of them have panned out. Chocobo Racing, Ehrgeiz, Dissidia, etc.

Yes, lest the flames sprout up Dissidia has some good aspects but the fighting is not one of them. You're not going to see any world tournaments of Dissidia.

Not just Nier, they did it with Just Cause 2, Kane and Lynch, and pretty much everything else they publish but not make.
Why, Squeenix?

Wow. Grey.

Being able to hack into the body of a giant robot gorilla does sound fun - though I'd rather just play as a gorilla the whole time. There isn't anything unique about mine hacking though. I've seen it used in a mediocre playstation 2 game of Ghost In the Shell and in a PC title called Messiah.

It doesn't really mean much, being able to hack into people's minds. It just means you'll be spending most of the time in a generic soldier body firing generic machine guns.

Looks like it's going to be a bit.. crap, to be honest. The idea's there but I don't think I'm sold on the implementation. Messiah was decent, if a bit temperamental, but I have trouble seeing it working in a situation where one player's a giant robot and the other is a scared deer, and it all relies on how quick you get to the best character. That has plenty of room for fail.

Also, am I the only person who would yell "ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL" down the microphone every time I hacked someone?

I might give it a try depending on reviews. I remember hearing about it and being kind of intrigued, but at the time I could not find any sort of release date and I just kind of forgot it exist. Thanks for reminding me, I like to support new concepts in gaming
