Right, because I'm bored (once again... the damned chemistry lab is closed on the one day I've got time to go), and in a follow up to my (somewhat phailed) swordsmanship thread:

What do you believe is the best sword ever crafted by man (not alien, sorry)?

Give justification as necessary.

PS This is because I got thinking after posting a couple times on the 'tired of katanas' thread.

EDIT: The word 'best' may be interpreted as you wish.

As stinkychops (meanine ninja man) said, katanas. But I still prefer a pair of tonfa over a sword.

Well. What defines best?

Most skillfully crafted? Most efficient? Most spectacular? The question is too broad.
Any definition you wish, or go for one for each, that'd pique my interest.

I saw the thread title and audibly said HORAAY another sword thread. I already posted the Flammarde in your other thread, so here is a gross messer

(Doesn't the guy helping at the end look a bit like Graeme Stark?)

And here is an authentic 16th Century one:

I'll copy paste my answer from the 'tired of katanas' thread.

I'm a fan of the [a href="http://www.xyfos.com/images/PaulChen/Practical%20Ninjato.jpg"]Ninjato[/a] myself. (It's more commonly known as the ninja sword)

I'll take the swift sword used by a stealthy assassin of death over a slower weapon used by warriors weighed down in armor any day
The ninjato is a straight blade, but made with folded steel like the katana is. It is much faster to swing and I've always been the type of person that prefers speed over power.

Zweihander with a proper ricasso. It's got everything you need--reach, power, versatility. Broaden your grip in tighter quarters, and you can use it for short, stabbing attacks like a spear. Choke up, and you can wield it in larger arcs for a stronger impact. Only major weakness would be trying to use it in severely constrained space--formation fighting or narrow corridors, for instance. For a one-on-one duel on open ground, though, I'll lay this against all others.

I pretty much beat you to the punch on that, but never mind. Still, I agree with your point, though you can still generate a high-powered cut with it.

As far as fighting is concerned, I do prefer the ninjatou, but for watching... once again, jian (that's Chinese sword, dubbed in folklore 'the Gentleman of Weapons', and being the snob that I am...).
