Okay, so I've had it up to here with this game.

A little context first.

I am running Stalker on Windows Vista 64 bit operating system.
Graphics cards are 2 Nvidia Ge Force GTX 260m with SLI.

I bought Stalker off of Steam.

Now, I keep on having issues with my computer crashing whenever I play this game. I keep getting a blue screen of death which tells me that my nvidia drivers are the culprit. I already reinstalled the drivers with the latest patches.

Also, other games such as Crysis and War For Cybertron are working perfectly, so I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the game.

I've tried looking for the problem on the internet, but even after hours of searching I couldn't find a solid cause for this problem.

Thank you very much whoever decides to help me with this problem.

I guess you already tried single card mode to see if the SLI was the issue (it shouldn't, but some drivers are picky)

Also, try reinstalling DirectX, i seem to remember STALKER overwriting some DirectX files, reinstalling it might help.

Try renaming or deleting your user.ltx file.

I would suggest looking for fan-made patches and so on, as they tend to fix a lot of the glitches and errors that made the game unplayable.

Honestly I wish I could help you. Stalker: SoC is by far one of my favorites games of all time.

Sadly, I run the non-steam version of the game.

I also am not running the game with SLI cards. (I'm just using 1 GTX580...) :p

Again, I'd like to try and help but due to these two factors I'm 100% certain that anything I could tell you would make things worse, not better.

I wish you the best of luck getting the game to work, though!

Okay, so now my computer is fried. I don't know whether it was fried before this whole fiasco, or whether SoC's multiple crashing did it, but either way, it's fried.

By the way, I think I figured out most of the reason why the game was crashing. Vista/Windows7 allow at most a program 2 gigabytes of memmory. SoC uses more than that in most cases. So whenever you would save, or go to a new zone, or pick up loot, it would try to use more than the 2 gigs. It wouldn't freeze, the screen would just go black while the game loaded. Usually the game would take 15 minutes to load just that one part, which makes the game unplayable.

Here's a link to a walkthrough of how to fix this:http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070825154058AAkBWFc

Thank you, everyone, for your help. I appreciate it :)

Stalker pissed me off. I remember when I first started playing it, where you have to rescue that dude on the farm to get the USB drive. I'd pop around a corner crouched, shoot a guy ten feet away right in the face with my pistol six or seven times, somehow manage to MISS EVERY SHOT and then immediately get OHKO'd.

Everyone in the game can shoot you in the head from a mile off with perfect accuracy, but you can still miss with a sawed-off shotgun at point-blank range. Infuriating.

It's okay, though. They have mods out there to fix that sort of thing.

And then you'll make them pay. Oh yes, they'll all pay.
