Look at all the people who still get moist at the mention of Freelancer.
Thanks, I now have to go change my pants...
You and me both. *rubs Kusari tattoo gently*

OT: I don't know why people were freaking out about a devkit. I was under the impression he had made it clear that Star Citizen was going to be PC exclusive.

It must be hard going through life having to validate the time and expense you put into your PC. People get huffy at seeing a PS4 development kit, really? They're a game developer for fucks sake, quit being so insecure with yourself.
I think it has more to do with getting a game on PC that is barely playable with the default control scheme of that system. Since this is what happened with X: Rebirth. Everything was designed with a controller and none of us realized it because we are retarded so trying to navigate the game with a mouse/keyboard is absolutely horrid. It just sucks, that's all. It isn't that we are trying to justify any expense we made. It'd be like if a game came out for PS4, but was optimized for mouse/keyboard and the controller binds were terrible.

Star Citizen already has this rather elitest, cultish vibe around it, and this will do nothing to alleviate that.
Why would you want to alleviate it?

Different people will react different ways, but saying it needs to be the "Best Thing Evar" is a bit of a stretch. It's a modern day Space Sim, for fans of the long forgotten genre. So all it needs to be is a great space sim, and most people should be happy.
Just by being average it would arealdy be better than anything released this decade anyway, so it doesnt even have to be that good.

That's not necessarily true. While the as-promised PC version of Star Citizen looks like it'll beat up i7s and punch Titans in the sac if you turn all the bells and whistles on, there's nothing to say that a next-gen console version couldn't work if they dialed down a lot of features for that version.

As a PC title the game would almost certainly have a fair amount of scalability built into it otherwise you're cutting yourself off from a bulk of your potential customers. If the game can be scaled down low enough to run on a mid-range 'gaming' laptop then it they should be able to shoehorn it onto a next-gen console. Nexxt-gen consoles may lack a lot of raw computational grunt but they're not doorsteps... unless, apparently, you got a PS4 from amazon.
Crysis made top of the line hardware cry when it came out. Now? a low end PC will run it on high. By the tiem this thing comes out Titan will be a baby. Though i shall not forgive you for the "Gaming laptop" heracy!

I don't mind the game being elitist and taking potshots at the "next-gen consoles".

For years we hear and read about how PC gaming is dead and that it has no future.
All these PS and Xbox fanboys and developers who are looking down at PC-gamers. Just look at the latest release of GTA: a lot of console-gamers who were taking potshots at PC-gamers because the PC-version is not (yet) released.
I'm glad there is something for PC-gamers to look forward to. Even if Star Citizen doesn't become a success I'll be having great fun with the singleplayer campaign in Squadron 42.
