Well, I am a Star Trek fan and I have my doubts about the movie based on what I've seen and read about it so far but I'll watch it too. Though I'd still prefer a DS9 movie instead, even if it's only a TV or a direct to DVD movie. Or at least a fifth season for Enterprise, both would be a lot better than this new movie...

I too thought that. But then I was actually pretty impressed by the movie.

Funny thing is, my friend who absolute hates when they mess with Star Trek continuity on any such scale (like they seemed to do quite often in ST:NG) who was positive he'd hate this "thing*" actually came out and said:

"Man, I can't find anything that made that a bad movie. It was actually a good Star Trek movie."

Then he and I had a laugh when we saw the thing on the Onion that picked on picky Star Trek fans -> http://www.hulu.com/watch/71495/onion-news-network-trekkies-bash-new-star-trek-film-as-fun-watchable

* He wouldn't even call it Star Trek. He kept saying, "Yeah, we'll go to see that thing at midnight."

Apparently they got Captain Kirk's middle initial wrong in one of the teasers. That doesn't bode well..
Huh. They didn't do it in the movie that I was aware of.

In fact, they make a direct reference to the Enterprise TV show twice in the movie.

Hm, I'm gonna look into this movie eventually but I'm not too excited.
It's a prequel, after all.

I'd much rather have another sequel that explains a bit more about the ultimate fate of the Borg after the Voyager finale. With both the Voyager and the Next Generation crews.

Hell yes, we will. We apparently already have a tidy army built.
Now we just need a place to assemble.
Trust me, I don't like the Star wars prequels, and in fact, The Pahntom Menace made me gag.
But I just used the comparison because the new Trek movie is technically a prequel so it could seem like a fair contest.

EDIT**: Sorry, there is no contest. Star Trek prequel=win Star wars prequels = fail

Well being a long time Star Wars fan (hooray Space Fantasy) I've been looking forward to this ever since the trailers presented it to be more Action/Adventure than boring as "Sci Fi". But in the end I think I'll always love Star Wars more... afterall Star Trek doesn't have Light Sabers and all their aliens still fall under "Forehead of the Week"

i dont see any small moons that are obviously small moons and nothing else so I would say use the "search" and find a star wars thread to hold up in

It seems that the Star Wars fans love it at least. Now all we need is a good Babylon 5 movie that Star Trek fans love and a Flash Gordon movie that's just like Babylon 5.

I just came back from seeing the new Star Trek film just over an hour ago.

Suffice to say, I wasn't disappointed. In my opinion, the film succeeded in doing exactly what it was meant to do, evident from the large quotient of "normal" people in the cinema...:)

I know some people had some gripes about the Enterprise design (yeh, ok, you think it looks like an iPod, you're so witty) but I really liked it. Especially the fact that engineering actually looked a genuine engineering section, and gave us a little piece of humour involving Scotty and some coolant pipes (if that's what they were meant to be) :).

I've been a Star Trek fan for a long time, and I had to take a lot of shit from the Star Wars fanboys at school who didn't believe that it was possible for there to be a good Star Trek movie.

Oh yes. Sweet justice has finally arrived.
