With all the rumors and supposed leaks concerning Star Wars 7 that have been flying around recently I have started thinking what I would want in the movie to make it (in my opinion) good.

Personaly I would like to see a new Jedi order. Now I am of the opinion that most of the EU is shit however I did like the story of Luke building a new Jedi Order.

Other than that I want to see a wookie army but then you could put a wookie army in anything and I would consider it a 100% improvment.

Alas, if the leaks and rumors are true, Luke is still the only Jedi (somehow, despite the fact that it's been years) because no one has been helping him fight these new Dark Side Force users. I think that if there was a new Jedi Order, they'd be helping him fight.

I don't know...unlike you, I very much enjoyed the Expanded Universe. I grew up alongside Jaina and Jacen. I started reading Young Jedi Knights when I was their age, and I followed them all the way to when Jaina gets married in her thirties, which is just about how old I am now. Knowing that these characters and events no longer exist or matter kind of hurts.

So I guess that's what I would like to see. Some reference to these characters. Jaina, Mara Jade, Jacen, Anakin, Tenel Ka, etc. Some why that the E.U., or at least characters and some events, are mentioned or shown in the film.

On the plausible side, I want to see space battles again. I want to see random pilots going at it like you do in Return of the Jedi. I want to see those actors who are in the film for only a few seconds, screaming nonsense lines about how many TIEs there are, and then are never heard from again but are remember in pop culture legend. I do NOT want the tease of an epic battle, and then ten seconds in it cuts to the main characters talking in their cockpits for the rest of the fight, like Revenge of the Sith did. Talk about an utter letdown...

3 words: Grand Admiral Thrawn. If that guy doesn't appear in any shape or form, I'll be pissed. Even if it's just a small footnote, I'll be happy to see one of the only competent men in the Empire.

OT: I just want it to be fun. The prequel movies had some awfully dull bits even though I did like them. I want a return to fun. It can be dark at places but there needs to be a sense of adventure.

Pretty much this. Disney really shot themselves in the foot with this, there was a trilogy that was great that was right there for them to take and make an adaptation out of, that's 80% of the screenplay work done right there for a guaranteed success of a project.

But no, we had to have the original cast back for some reason (despite there being literally one person who played their role in both trilogies that wasn't just voice acting), so it's got to be 30 years after the originals.

Also, who came up with the storm trooper helmet design? Those things are ugly as hell.

To be honest, I do get why that triology wasn't made. Abrams wanted to make HIS story in the Star Wars universe, not adapt someone else's into the silver screen. But the direction he choose is something I disagree with strongly. I just don't see the need to retcon everything. I would have just done a huge time skip. Say...100-200 years. You know have complete control of how the galaxy looks like without screwing over the expanded universe. Have Luke, Leia, and Han (and Thrawn because Thrawn is awesome) appear as hologram messages or holocrons for their cameo.

I'm probably going to have a lot of problems with this movie until I see it, simply because of how their handling the 30 years between VI and VII. Maybe it will be explained better but I cannot see how no one has taken the Emperor's title given how Imperial politics worked.

I recently started reading the EU (finished The Hand of Thrawn, on book 4 of new jedi order) but I realize they aren't going on screen... and I'm cool with that.

I just want a good story that is entertaining but also gives the viewer some food for thought. The Empire getting owned and war heros turning into political leaders would make for a good film.

and Jedi lightsaber battles. lots of those. with droids.

and if they could bring back Samuel L Jackson and his pink lightsaber that would be awesome.

I want to see some realistic and scary galactic consequences stemming from the death of the emperor, and the rebels essentially toppling the government.

Also some space boobs.

You make a good point, but Disney had final say in it, and let's face it they could have easily said "you're adapting this, or we'll find someone else". It's not as if having him only be the director would have been unusual, most of the movies he has directed has him not be a writer for. Plus it's not like if he said no there wouldn't be countless people who are as talented, or more talented, then him to take his place.

On that note, I'm worried the precedent that has been set by Trek will be in play: of a long and beloved franchise that was still pretty lively being taken and turned into something it's not, all while lowering the quality to the Nth degree. People say he got the job for what he did with Trek, and that really worries me. Seems he would have gotten the job despite Trek given how it turned out.

I'd like to see Maul return in some form or fashion, because he's basically negative universe Obi-Won. Failing that, NK Necrosis, because Grievous was a good villain, and the way Revenge treated him was downright criminal.

Other than that, I'd like to see new applications of the Force itself, and an emphasis on the mystical, mysterious nature of it. Maybe a less stupid version of the Daughter and the Son from Mortis.

I would like to see a story about the Ewok terrorists threatening the Galaxy after having been irresponsibly armed by the Rebel Alliance back on AfghanistanEndor twenty years ago as proxies to fight the SovietsEmpire. Now they have taken the equipment and training the Alliance gave them and are trying to establish a religious state in the Outer Rim as commanded by their golden god.

I'm not sure I 'want' anything.
Having said that, nothing of what's currently happening is pleasing. I'd like to see either KOTOR, or a completely new story based in the civil war.
With no disrespect to Han, Luke or Leia, what happens after Vader's death isn't nearly as interesting as what happens beforehand. And in a galactic, decades long civil war we've seen three battles. Four if you count the Endor land battle and space battle as two different engagements.
All I'm saying is it feels like the Horus Heresy. The greatest galactic war of all time(within their respective 'verses) and at best we get two or three battles, and a million dead. How about taking...I dunno, the Battle of Verdun from WW1 and setting it in Star Wars? Actually give us weight to the war. Blood, terror, sieges, supply shortages, death. Lots of death. Meaningful deaths alongside tens of thousands of preventable, bitter deaths. Something where we can look back at the Endor battle and say "Yeah okay, better this than the war of Capulon IV again."

I agree but I'm not sure. You have to kill a lot of puppies and rob a lot of nuns to make up for Jar Jar Binks. Part of me is willing to forgive, but the other is scared shitless of what could be worse.

I've been reading EU stuff since the days of the freakin Marvel comics. The first EU novel I read was "Splinter in the Mind's Eye." I was a Rogue back in the day of playing X vs TIE online over Dial-Up connections. I played the tabletop RPG back in the days of West End Games. I still own an original print copy of "The Farlander Papers." I grew away from caring about Jedi and hokey religion lasersword stuff and became a huge fan of the pilots. Rogues first, but then Wraiths as well. I lost interest right around the Black Fleet Crisis, just prior to the prequel movies and the New Jedi Order era kind of burned me out, but I can say that I love the EU and go back a LONG way with it.

And somehow, I don't want a single mention of any EU stuff in episode 7.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the EU on the big screen. As opposed to Heir to the Empire (like everyone else seems to want) I'd rather see Rogues and Rebels topple the Empire, take Courscant, and found the NR. Maybe with a "Guardians of the Galaxy" style tie in featuring the Wraiths on the side. That would be great. No massive Jedi-heavy battles with overdone wire-flying kung-fu; I want ground pounding commandoes like Page's, sneaky backroom sabotage like General Cracken's Operatives, and the pilots of the rebel fleet!

But that's not gonna happen, and I'm somehow glad it isn't.

My expectations for such an undertaking would be far too high. It couldn't be good enough. So all I want... a good solid space opera. Good story, decent dialouge, some action, a couple of funny moments, and a little of the awe and wonder back from the days when a pre-teen me was seeing A New Hope for the first time. Some nods to the original series would be OK, but I just want this to be something new. Well, and good...

Just for it to be over and done with so I don't have to be bombarded by the advertising campaign and accompanying hype.

Hey, a guy can dream.

And the we can move on to the hype for Episode VIII and conjecture as to where it will sit on the Empire Strikes Back/Attack of the Clones scale.

My dream would be to have a more diverse cast of main characters / protagonists being included so far we have three humans who have been the most over represented race in terms of protagonists / main characters in this setting where as my aliens?

I'd like it not to dwell on the original or prequel trilogy much. If the trailers are any indicator, though, this film is going to be an overly safe fanwank contest though which is disheartening to say the least.
