Star Wars: Battlefront Will Have a $50 Season Pass

The Star Wars: Battlefront season pass will cost you almost as much as the game itself.

Well, it's 2015 and announced the season pass [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/star%20wars%20battlefront] and subsequent "ultimate" edition of the game, which for a whopping $120 will include all the content from the digital deluxe edition, and the season pass (at no discount).

As for the season pass, it will contain "4 upcoming expansion packs filled with new content, two-week early access to each expansion and an exclusive "Shoot First" emote." Anyone who has played any of the recent Battlefield titles will notice that the season pass is almost identical to Battlefield Premium [http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield-4/premium] in both description and price, so we can probably expect the same kind of content.

That's pretty much all the info we have on the season pass at this point, although EA did say it would reveal more information in the coming weeks - hopefully before the game is actually released.

This means that to get all of the content released for the game, you'll have to pony up $110. That's quite steep, and practices like this haven't worked out too well for some games in the past [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/evolve].

Will you be pre-ordering the season pass, or giving it a "wait-and-see" approach?

Consumerism. Free-market. Capitalism. Guzzle and squander, people. Give back to society what you so wrongfully stole, don't question why or who benefits the most here, just open your wallets and be grateful for the damn privelidge of being a mandatory consumer.

Gamers have accepted it once and now we all have to live with it. Games no longer cost $60. That's just an illusion. They chop them up and sell them for $120 now. Think about that next time you tell someone that they're making a slippery slope argument when they say some awful business practice in the gaming industry will catch on. THEY ALWAYS CATCH ON!

Damn it, there's a Jontron reaction video that is perfect for this.
Hang on, let's see if I can find it...
...
...
And got it!

It honestly baffles me. There can't be that many idiots who will fall for this, right?
In fact, don't tell me. I'd rather live in my delusions.

"We know from the beta data and the Star Wars license, that doing this will reel in more suckers revenue. Adding to the bad press this game is getting won't hurt our bottom line now that we know we can get away with season passes." - Every EA executive

"4 upcoming expansion packs filled with new content," eh? At least one of those "expansions" better be an actual retail-disc-sized expansion (not just a few maps or whatever), for the price they're asking? And the other three better be something good as well.

The early access to each DLC can probably be translated as "You will be the final beta testers, who will find any bugs and exploits our testing team wasn't paid enough (and given enough time) to find.

And if i wasn't already convinced not to buy this game the $60 season pass (plus the $100 for the deluxe edition making it $160) i sure am now.

So the sensible approach of buying the base game and seeing if it remains fun when the DLCs start dropping in remains. If I am still playing and enjoying at that point, I might consider investing more, if not, no skin off my back. Personally, I don't see the problem with lots of DLC as long as it provides good content. Let me remind people that the Fallout: New Vegas DLC clocked in at over 60 USD, but was well worth the money.

Seeing as it is pretty much only multiplayer, that requires there to be a healthy playerbase by the time the GOTY edition comes around. Which for me, means I won't ever be getting it. At least it got me off the fence, a shame it ended up being on that side but still.

Well if it wasn't going to be around for more than a year, I wouldn't have much interest in buying it anyway.

I could swear this was announced weeks ago.
Prehaps it was such a forgone conclusion that I convinced myself I'd already read it.

Also, going to call it now, one of the dlc packs will include a galatic conquest mode of something of the sort.

Surprised I'm the first one with this:

Anyway, that's pretty funny all round really. I've already said I wouldn't buy this game for any more than maybe £20-25 given what I've seen and the poor excuse for single-player they've got in there, and that'd be for the ENTIRE THING with DLCs and everything. They're going to be charging like £70-80 for the whole thing? Yeaaaaaaaah......no. Not happening.

Wait a minute, Battlefield Premium has been a thing for years now. And costs 50$ on top of the base game. How is this any different? It seems like the same exact thing to me. In fact, my friends and I have been discussing whether or not Battlefront Premium would be worth it for months.

So what's everyone surprised about or laughing at here? That the same thing that has been happening for years happened again? Huh. Okay...

$120:
-2 weeks worth of food between two people
-Good headphones with a good amount of music to go with them
-A concert ticket for that really popular band you like
-Go see a few theatre productions
-A shit-ton of good games during a Steam Sale

Or

-Star Wars Battlefront with all the maps

No.

The base game needs to be good enough to justify DLC, and Battlefront just wasn't. It's a gorgeous game, but only really good for a couple of hours of play. If they had used the assets to build a Dark Forces style single player game with the multiplayer, I would have been interested (even then, not $110 of interested).

The frustrating thing is knowing that season passes could cost 100 dollars and this game is still going to be an amazing smash hit and probably make its way to all sorts of "best games of 2015" lists, the hype train is too big to crash.

Well whatever, the ongoing success of destiny or even the initial big success of evolved proved to me marketing and the power of PR beats every other consideration when it comes to what makes a game sells.

In total seriousness, anyone who didn't see this coming the moment EA got the Star Wars licensing deal, never mind when they announced Battlefront, either doesn't pay much attention or is hopelessly naive.

It's EA, they charge you the extra $50 and then they decide if they're going to make any actual content (see Titanfall, Battlefield Hardline). Eighteen months after release a 'Premium Edition' will come out anyway, it's how I got Battlefield 3 and it was more than worth it for £40.
