Welp, time to trot this out...AGAIN...

Modern triple-A gaming, ladies and gentlemen. If they aren't slowly nickel-and-diming you to death with microtransactions they're shaking you down right away with season passes (sometimes they do both!).

And people wonder why I've been boycotting the likes of EA for years...

If only people would just stop buying the games they objected to so much.
How many people often object to temptation? Marketing thrives off this, it is up to us to figure out whether we are being tempted kindly or callously.

So I'm guessing every single person whose commentated in this thread so far does not live in Australia then, where this is the default price for new and often second-hand titles as well. As Yatzhee once said, "WELCOME TO MY WORLD MOTHERFUCKERS!"

But yeah, without actually detailing what the DLC promised by the pass is, that's a very hefty investment.
Kiwi here, I know that feeling, we get shafted on price as well. The game is going for $110 NZ, with $70 I saw for this season pass, so thanks but no thanks.

Anyone willing to put up with this shit deserves exactly what they get...which won't be much

I don't really know how to answer that. I don't particularly seem to be the "temptation" type. If I want a game, I want it. If I don't, I don't. I don't tend to bemoan how these horrible companies are ruining us and then flip and shout "shut up and take my money!"

This game, as far as I can tell from reactions, is possibly the worst thing ever to be released that didn't involved some form of weapon or toxin. And I'm wondering how many of these people complaining I'd be likely to see on the servers if I decided to pick up the game. It really sends the wrong message.

The difference being Lando was always strong-armed into the deal, while gamers have been 100% complicit in the practices that constitute the "deal." Oh, and Lando eventually did something, aiding the Rebellion and helping to strike a decisive blow against the Empire, while gamers continue to be complicit.

Well, except now there's going to be an additional cost incurred to anyone in Australia. Oh, and something about Australian spending power vs US spending power, meaning you're more likely to be able to absorb the financial hit than we are. But it's a totally fair comparison.

Brilliant EA. I thought you were trying to turn over a new leaf, but instead all the good will you tried to generate means fucking nothing because you're the greedy piece of shit everyone still expected you to be. Well done.
I don't get this, either. They've routinely done this. It's standard practice in the industry. But you believed they were turning a new leaf...why, exactly? They never stopped doing this, it was other practices that were up in the air.

Because the last thing I read about EA here was about them wanting to change their image. I can't remember how long ago that was, but it wasn't long. I was also there when they were doing all these good things, like giving away old games on Origin, and making donations through Humble Bundles.

While trying to find that article for you, I found these other issues I never heard before from EA months before, but nothing like this. What can you do? I don't have the time to catch it all. Plus I was just hoping. I Was Just Fucking Hoping!

Sorry, my apologies, it was meant rhetorically. I don't think it is an answerable question either. I am a little tired and unsure at the moment from troublesome days(possibly oversensitive), but I can't tell if you are disagreeing with something I may or may not have implied. I have no issue with the game itself, it is only a product with some cynical business practices thrown in. My issue is more to do with the current economical pressures and climate that encourage profit earnings over artistic standards. That is a much more tiring and worsening subject than how good a sci-fi video game turns out to be. It is more of a straw/camel thing for me, except the back doesn't break, it flops to the floor. To be fair though, my investment in star wars can be taken or left.
This title is great for a star wars fan looking for a quick, authentic-feeling star wars experience, but let's not delude ourselves that this isn't a rushed attempt to ride the resurfacing star wars movies that is woefully over-priced and malnutritioned compared to any self-respecting game. (yes, anthropomorphizing is fun!) Anyhow, I was not looking to disagree. There are plenty of rabid fans that are lining up to attack this game XD

Not that I am dismissing EA sphincterocity, I really have to wonder, Digital or otherwise, was anyone really expecting to access a Disney land attraction without being reamed royally for the privileged of depositing money into the hands of a company built on supporting nazis, sexualizing children, and buying out anything popular it doesn't own so it can wring all the quality out of it and mass produce the lowest common denominator left remaining?

Not excusing EA as they have their own demons to contend with. (Just not nearly a century worth) Really, it baffles me how people can be so oblivious to the choices they make and things they support. The person poking the angry dog with a pointy stick really should not be surprised or outraged that they got bitten. You know the company who owns the property and what they do, You know the company and developer who manufactured it and what they do.

Or tl;dr

How many maps were in the base game again? wasn't it like 6? so what that's 10$ per map, so there are only going to be 11 maps in the entire game?
And people are still defending this game and saying that we should ignore how it stamps all over the previous battlefront games which had lots of content at a decent price.

And yet Evolve got WAAAAAY more shit for something that wasn't even half as bad, especially since its paid DLC doesn't split the community and there's been a good amount of free content added in... (yes I will shill for this game)

Way to give me even more reason to wait on buying this game, if I ever decide to get it at all. What's even more depressing is that I'm not even surprised at this point...
I wouldn't say it wasn't "half as bad", I don't care about the cosmetic DLC, but that game had not just one, but TWO fucking season passes(one for hunters and one for monsters) and it several different versions of the game which only confused people(like Jim Sterling mentioned in his video "How Evolve Fell Down the Bullshit Tree), including a 100 dollar "Monster-Race" edition on the PC, 2K got really fucking greedy with that game and both them and Turtle Rock have now paid the price for it.
I will stand by my assertion that is is half as bad, but I will qualify my original claim by stating that the DLC practices and marketing for Evolve were not above criticism. They were flawed, and the marketing was indeed confusing and pushed people away. This is true, and Jim indeed makes some good points.

As for my assertion, it isn't as bad because NONE of the paid DLC in Evolve splits the community in ANY way. Battlefronts will. If you want to keep playing Battlefront, you better buy them map packs, and if your friend has content you don't, well they either have to stop using it when you're around, or just not play with you anymore to play the content they bought.

In Evolve, you can still play with people who have monsters and hunters beyond the original 3 and 12 if you don't have any. When one person on the server buys a piece of DLC, they pay for EVERYONE'S entertainment not just their own. On top of all of this, the new content has been balanced fairly well as the game has gone on so paying for new hunters/monsters doesn't give you an edge, just a new way to play the game. On top of all of this, all new maps and modes are free.

As for the pricing of it all... yea it was VERY expensive at launch, but the prices for EVERYTHING, including the base game and all new characters/character bundles were slashed by a third several months ago. So still pricey, but not NEARLY as bad as it was.

So yea. Evolve's DLC practices are NOT above criticism, and had their rather large flaws that deserved SOME of the backlash it got. But its still better than this kind of DLC since EA WILL make content that splits the community, where Evolve did not.

Don't worry, even if the game sells well(which it will being fucking Star Wars) the playerbase will die out pretty quick when people see how shallow it is and how bullshit those DLC practices are. That's what happened with Evolve with all of it's bullshit DLC practices, it's player count is pathetically low now(how'd that DLC cash shop work out for you eh Turtle Rock?) Titanfall's playerbase also dropped quite dramatically when it became apparent to people how bare-bones that game actually was.
That's honestly still worrying for me. If (more like when) that happens, EA and DICE will only care about how much money they were able to squeeze out with this crap. So long as they make a good profit they won't care what happens to the community. In fact, they may use it as justification to not put any effort into the DLC since the community is dead and stop supporting it as quickly as possible so they can more easily move onto the next money sucking venture.

That's going to be about $160AUD. I suppose some morons will pay it, and EA will think that people are OK with it.
