Twilight.
I have to say Twilight doesn't really compare. The movies are selling well but do you really see people going to watch an animated series or play the game of it? I know there are bags and t-shirts and stuff but do you really see if getting and maintaining the popularity of star wars?

Was never a hugggggge fan of Star Wars, nor did I think Vader was that good of a bad guy after the new "movies", his backstory pussified him for life.

By rights it's a great movie, but by standards of people never shutting the fuck up about it, it makes me think less of it for making people blindly stupid.

This. Completely this. The prequels ruined the character of Darth Vader so much, that in my mind, i no longer consider the first three episodes canon. Serious. I find it incredibly hard to enjoy those movies because of what Lucas did.

Yeah i must say that I'm a big fan. Whenever i hear someone say "but the stormtroopers are clones" or anything of the sort, I die a little on the inside.

I'm a bit confused, you're asking people to admit that despite the fact that they mourn the loss of artistic value, Star Wars is a money cow. Isn't Star Wars being a money cow the very reason people complain?

Give it time, Star Wars has been around for more than 30 years, Twilight only has 5. A game is already being made, and you can bet your ass that Meyer will continue writing those things as soon as she realizes that she doesn't have enough talent to write anything not aimed at 16 year old girls.

I don't understand why people go so crazy over star wars. I mean the movies were good but I don't see why so many people are so obsessed with it.

I'd say Berserk is better than Star Wars.

Only D&D has more books based on it, and Star Wars has more games based on it than any franchise in history. So... nothing yet.

Star wars to me made most of its fame from the countless fan fiction and games created by people other than George Lucas, Harry potter on the other hand had a series that made it big with its books, the only series that made it big with out any other media taking a major role is SAW, purely for the fact that its only source of income is the movies.

I used to love Star Wars. I grew up loving Star Wars. The original films (though Jedi less than the other two), the Zahn novels, the Knights of the Old Republic comics - I loved it in heaps.

Then the prequels came along and pissed it all away.

All I can cling to now are fuzzy childhood memories and the occasional half-decent video game. I really like both of BioWare's KOTOR games and I hear Force Unleashed is okay. Yes, it influenced a generation of science fiction endeavors and fans, but all that goodwill and all that ingenuity was pissed away on poor characters, shoddy writing and over-indulgent CGI that even failed to distract us from how bad the core product had become.

Star Wars is like an old friend with whom we shared some great times but they got too drunk on cheap beer and drove their sedan into a brick wall. We look at old photos, visit their gravesite, remember the good times. And that's all we can do.

Just my opinion, mind you.

This. Plus I was mostly being facetious. :p
