Actually, why can't they make a movie about the new repblic? It would probably have been more interesting than the prequels, just from the story line, although it would be even better now that the prequel has been released, seeing as Darth Caedus is a direct throwback to Vader.

I'd love to see a movie about Luke, Leia, Anakin, and Jacen fighting Yuuzhan Vong soldiers while Han and Jaina shoot it out with a worldship over Coruscant.
Lucas didn't do that because the films are ultimately about Vader; personally I think finding out how Vader became Vader is far more interesting than "what Luke did next".

Lucas created the Universe and stuck to his story within it, and others helped expand that universe by filling it with their stories.
Actually the movies are about the Droids. Lucas revealed that while ESB was being filmed. He said in his original 6 chapter outline the story was called "the droids" because they were supposed to be the only characters in all the movies.
I've never heard that before, but since you said "original outline" and supposing that's true then the films were about the droids.

The films as they are are about Vader.
Do you know how few screen minutes Vader gets in the original series compared to other characters?
Irrelevant.

Luke's the protagonist and Vader's now the bad guy, but the story is still ultimately about Vader destroying the Sith/fulfilling the prophecy.

jacens evil lulz

anyway im kinda with the op on this i mean i quite enjoyed episode 1 and 2 number 3 not so much bet hey what did anyone expect with lucas directing them hes only good at the writing aspect really and i will say hayden christensen was a rather bad choice as he has 2 acting styles angst and angstier but i still kinda enjoyed them and people constantly ragging on them is irritating.

also the prequels spawned the awesome clone wars animated series which was fucking awesome the one where mace windu literally punches an entire droid army to death is probably my favourite.

EDIT: actually on my little joke thats something that would interest me more jacens fall from grace as it would be infinitely more interesting than anakins.

I may actually kill to see the Yuuzhan Vong in a movie. They were hands down the greatest enemies in the Star Wars Verse, and the fact that Pellaeon makes an appearance makes it that much better.

Speaking of which, I wouldn't mind the Thrawn trilogy being made into a movie...

I loved the Prequel Trilogy almost as much as the original Trilogy, Hayden Christiensen included. If you don't like it, I don't care!

Flame on you amusing trolls.
You know, that last line reminded me so much of the phrase 'shine on you crazy diamond', I thought to myself, I must mention it. Than for bringing me a memory of Pink Floyd in this crazy, desolate jungle which is the internet.

OT: I know a thing or two about movie, and by that, I mean to say, I know what I likes and I know what I don'ts.

I rank the Star Wars prequel trilogy along side the Twilight Saga, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank and Space Mutiny and in the kindest fashion, I mean that Mike Nelson made it funny by talking over it.

The prequels were fun, if looked at independently. But if you look at the story-line, they hardly make sense. In fact, all the decisions everyone makes in Episode 1 are just illogical.

The part that particularly irked me was how Anakin gets turned to the dark side in 2 minutes. This makes The Clone Wars Animated series weird to watch as they show Anakin as a loyal hero, and we already know that he gets turned to the dark side ... in 2 minutes ... following years of passionately fighting the dark side

I don't really understand why people do out of their way to say that the prequel trilogy was bad when everyone has heard it before.

Hell, I don't understand the big deal about Star Wars anyway, but that's probably because I'm not a fan of it in the first place.

Ok...I'm really tired of all the Jar Jar hate...You really have to look at the bigger picture for the character. His naivety and innocence is what makes him work. He was manipulated by Palpatine. Because he was from Naboo, his endorsement of Palpatine(who was also from Naboo if you remember) is what generated the sympathy in the senate in order to grant him those emergency powers, which in turn made him EMPEROR. Too many people get caught up in the way he looks, and that he was CG. I just don't think that character would have worked if it was a guy in a rubber suit.
I wouldn't say it worked exactly but it fit, and gave the emperor some credibility, in fact I liked how he manipulated everyone (though that could have been because anakin was a complete eegit) I nearly wrote some more but I no longer care.
OT: I want something with entirely new characters, no riding on the franchise, new jedi, new story, that way even if it fails, you haven't ruined an icon.
oh, and films in general, if you want to be serious at all, no more 'cute' or 'funny' characters

I've seen more than enough OBJECTIVE EVIDENCE to see that the prequel trilogy should not have been done as it was. That is evidence that cannot be proven to the contrary.
Things like plot holes, or the over-emphasis on marketing junk; these things detract from the experience and add nothing to the story.

But the thing with film making is that a lot of it is subjective.
Some people might actually love Natalie Portman's utterly wooden performance; or Hayden Christensen's whiny deliveries with every line. Or the gut-busting "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" of Darth Vader pining (which I like, but for all the wrong reasons).
Or how the entirety of the second and third films were made in a computer lab; making everything look completely sterile, bland, and immaculate compared to the original trilogy.

I cannot understand WHY people like that dredge; but it's still subjective and people are people.

I enjoyed the prequels when I saw them in theaters... But after seeing them again about a year or so ago... They're oookay... They seem more like fan-fiction though..? or maybe I trick myself into thinking they are... I guess they're alright...

Either way... what I'd like to see is a new trilogy... based on the old republic...

1-You chose the right website to post this, cause anywhere else and somebody would be at your house holding a bored with a rusty nail stuck through

2-I liked the prequels. But Empire Strikes Back is still my favourite.

Well, i thought the prequels were fine. They tell the story, the acting was good enough for not to care too much. the CGI was at worst bearable and best pretty good. It was aimed at a younger audience than the originals.
I am the only person who can watch a movie without feeling the need to judge it, i watch it, if i enjoy it ill watch it again or go out and buy it. If i really don't enjoy a film i will sit with a friend of mine and tear it to pieces such as armored. First film since starship troopers 2 i haven't felt an immediate urge to switch it off.
Back on topic, They were good prequels, like everything else, 1 person says they dislike it and everyone who didnt mind it, enjoyed it but didnt want to admit it jumps on the bandwagon.
