Am I the only one who read this as them putting out Origin stories of the characters from the NEW MOVIES? So they wouldn't be doing Han Solo, they'd be doing the new guys, whoever they end up being. And no, IGN's guessing doesn't count as confirmation one way or another...

I really really want to know what Emperor Palpatine was like as a sixteen year old. Perhaps we've all misjudged him and he became evil because people laughed at him because he went to senior prom without a date. Perhaps he won a scholarship to Sith university by winning a game of Nabean Soccer against a group of exaggerated CGI aliens (The youngest player ever to lift the trophy) Perhaps he comically ended up locked in an AT-AT walker and ended up crushing the rebel base purely by accident. Who knows, but I for one can't see anyway in which knowing more about him could possibly make him any less scary.

Watched Star Trek Into Darkness last night and so have given up any hope of the new Star Wars movies being any good.

For me Star Wars films should be the main stories, big events that require an opening scrawl to get you up to speed. Origin stories are things definitely best left to things like books and games (though I can see maybe they don't want to do new books so as not to confuse people about what's Disney Star Wars and what isn't).

I could do without these origin films, i really don't need to know what Han Solo was doing in his past, who cares anyway? We know everything that is relevant to know for the movies to make sense, the rest is just fluff...
Especially since they already have his back story flushed out rather well in the EU.
An EU that's basically going to be declared non-canon?
Ah yes, like in comics, as soon as something renders older comics non-canon, it erases everything before it from existence. e_e I would have thought the recent popularity of Super Hero movies would have put this kind of argument to bed. I don't see DC scrambling to fit the new superman movie into the comic's continuity.

Canonical or not, The Han Solo Trilogy is good. Much like how The Thrawn Trilogy and The Corellian Trilogy are good. Even the novelization of episode 3 is good and has one of the most powerful openings to a book I've ever read. I don't care what first Lucas then Disney does to to the lore. Especially since Disney could pull a New 52 or Star Trek on Star Wars when ever the mood take them.

So I'll hold to my favorite movies, books, and games and construct a head canon around that.

So, in the end, it did not matter if you were a Star Wars or a Star Trek fan.
Neither side won out, only fever induced psychotic capitalism stands triumphant.

Have you heard, have you heard, have you heard the news?
Sci-fi is dead!
