While searching for the newest Star Wars trailer that aired during Monday Night Football I came across this. http://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/1099645/star-wars-vii-boycotted-online-for-racist-reason?ref=yfp

Allegedly people are boycotting the new Star Wars film because it has a diversified cast and the people boycotting it consider it Anti-White. The boycotting tweets appear halfway down the page with the final tweet from Ian Miles Cheong saying it's a troll hashtag and not to fall for it.

Whether it's a troll hashtag or not I don't know. I just thought it was a weird thing to come across and wanted to share it with you guys and see what you think of it.

I'm boycotting the film.

Not because I'm racist, though, it just looks like ass. Look at that picture and tell me it doesn't look like a comedy.

I just thought it was something weird and wanted see what others thought of it. If you took offence that I'm sorry. I don't believe it myself which is why I used allegedly.

Any still from a movie at the right time can make it look like a comedy.

This is true, but the original trailer gave me the "unintentional comedy" vibe the whole time. And then there's the deathstar, which I find rather disheartening.

In any case, if people are really boycotting the film because of racism, then that's pretty bad. I hope it's just a dumb prank, but at this point not much would surprise me : /

I'm pretty sure it is a dumb prank. I was just curious what people thought about it. I will lose a lot of faith in humanity if it turns out not to be prank.

Because the originals were oh so serious.

Well, yeah, actually.

I probably wouldn't care so much if I thought Abrams was doing something new. Instead he's just rehashing the original, including a third death star. I knew it was finished when he got involved, though, and the writer apparently quit in disgust (ie "creative differences"). It's just a little sad to see Star Wars get the Marvel treatment. I guess that's what the people want, though.

Certainly seems much more reminiscent of the original trilogy, so I'm hopeful.
Well, I hope I'm wrong, and that it's a return to form. My main issue is Abrams, frankly. I just can't get my hopes up again.

I noticed what looked distinctly like lens flare : P

Remember when people got outraged at The Hunger Games, because Rue was black in the film, whereas she's only said to be black two or three times in the books?

It was probably started by trolls out to rustle some jimmies before actual racists (as opposed to the trolls who just look, talk and act exactly like racists) thought that the revolution had finally started and jumped on board.

No, but that happened? Sheesh.
Reminds me how Mad Max: Fury Road is a feminist piece of propaganda, I guess, for having the audacity of having a strong female role (not to mention the Wives were capable in their own right) in a world where you die if you're soft.

Anyway.

It's kinda funny, I mean, it would have been anyway, nut this new guy brings the number of speaking black roles up to, what, three, Mace Windu, Lando, and new guy? That's off the top of my head, I wouldn't be surprised if there's more.
I actually heard about this from a different article and I'm gonna paraphrase something from it I thought was funny:
Guess they forgot who did the voice for Darth Vader.

Well, racist are retarded.

I'll enjoy the movie while others live in their world or narrowminded hate. Pathetic.

"Anti-white"

>my sides

It has a predominantly white cast(Han Solo, the Big Bad, the Scavenger woman) and so far, one black guy. Who probably happens to be a Jedi.

Recent events have lead me to believe that there are genuine bellends out there who'd believe that this is anti white somehow.

I'd like to see the movie, but only after reviews. Ideally, I'd like to not support the Disney conglomerate but at this point, it's getting difficult. I am genuinely curious as to how the movie turns out, but I still approach all the new SW material very cautiously.

To me, what'd be more interesting is seeing Disney's SW marketing campaign come tumbling down if the movie turns out to be bad, just because I don't trust Disney having exclusive rights to such powerful IP by itself.

It's embarrassing how whenever anyone online tries to highlight an injustice or racism that affects white people, they get a load of hate and accusations for it. Its got to the point where you aren't even allowed to be proud of your race on and offline.

Personally I don't think the new star wars looks racist at all, from what I've seen I don't know how it could be taken as anti white. I mean Han Sorbo and Luke Skytrotter are still main characters right.

Most of this is a giant joke out of proportions, though of course you'll find some racist prick on twitter who will take it seriously.

Amusingly, one of the twitters quoted in the article is a German joking about being called a Nazi and using the tag. The article quotes him as if he was being serious about the anti-white stuff, despite the fact the guy is retweeting stuff like this:

As a side note, that is the most pimp Lando picture I've ever seen. Party on in your giant palace in the sky, you glorious, caped bastard.

EDIT: Also, a lot of people are using the boycott hashtag to voice their genuine concerns over the fact they don't like what their seeing (Third Death Star, old Han, the fact that there's going to be a 7th one in the first place). So you can't even judge the whole tag harshly.

I usually leave this sort of comment for someone else to reply to, but screw this day; Leaving aside the whole "race" misuse, what is there to be proud of with a skin colour? So much, so that it is justifiable to complain that your preferred entertainment now contains a smaller ratio of people with matching skin colour to yours, without even seeing the main event?

OT: A joke it would seem. But it runs the risk of most satirical attempts in that it will speak more to the people that it is satirising if they are unaware of specific character flaws, such as Fight Club, Spinal Tap and American History X even though that certainly isn't satire or humourous, some racists I have had the displeasure of speaking to, still don't see the subtle-as-a-sledgehammer message.
