Dear fellow readers,

I just got a mail from my online-retailer telling me that the release date of Starcraft II was further delayed.

New shipping date: 28th-29th of June 2010.
AKA: "When it might be done."

Now... I will go back and contemplate my thoughts on my current game collection.

I was thinking about this today. I honestly don't mind if it's delayed. I have a ton of games right now from all my Steam buying recently that I need to play before anything super awesome comes out.

I thought this date was already known? I wasn't expecting it until Q3 of 2010 the earliest.

Ouch! That's a fair way away. I've been looking forward to this game for quite some time now. However, with Blizzard I'm glad about the delay, as weird as that sounds. They're the sort of company which wouldn't release a game unless they were happy with it, so pushing the release date back means we'll see a better game when it eventually comes out. I'm going to think about that.

Pretty sure Blizzard never set a date for SC2. Until then retailers only guess and hope. It's not "further delayed", your retailer just decided to push it back because they don't know.

Umm, yay for beta-testing?

Seriously, I can handle the wait if the end result is a game with as much or more strategic capacity as the first one, along with the balanced races and units.

Seriously, too many games are released too early, with imbalanced skill/perk/trait/ability etc systems, or with the unit balances somewhere so far out of the mark they might as well be on another planet. If a few extra months will help get rid of those and you have to money to stay in business for that long, then by all means take your time. I have no complaints, its all added value to me as a gamer.

Hey, this seems like a good place to ask a question!

I'm mostly a console gamer, but recently I've been getting into PC games. If I have a 2-year old PC running XP, what's the best way for me to buy/get (legally) a copy of Starcraft? Am I stuck with digital download, or will the hard copy versions (made in about 1999) still work on newer systems? Will I have to do a ton of messing around to get them to work?

Thanks. I'm trying to correct the blasphemy of never having played a Starcraft game.

This is why everyone is waiting with bated breath for SC2.

I have long held that the game was finished more than a year ago, and there is a crack squad of over-caffinated koreans who are pounding out every possible strategic exploit in order to balance the game as much as possible.

The said that they were going to have a 5-6 month (or week?) Beta. Since that has not cropped up yet, it is quite obvious that it would be the minimum of June for the release.

I'm not the least bit surprised, it's probably for the better anyway. Blizzard has always taken a lot of time on every game to make sure they get rid of all the flaws. I heard they have been focusing a lot on the high skilled user techniques by hiring some of the top Korean players so it lasts as long as the original.

I am really not bothered, considering Blizzard's reputation of delaying games to ensure they are up to standards it's really not much of a big deal. Means we get a more complete and brilliant game later.
Indeed. At least Blizz actually puts some hard work into their games and make sure that they're not rushed, unlike many many other companies...

Yeah and Blizzard splitting the game up into 3 bits isnt really helping either...

OT:Still I hope it's as good as a salami and grilled cheese sandwich.

not surprised, nor bothered. also, there is no release date yet. blizzard faq clearly says it's too early to provide an estimate of the release date.
but it's blizzard, so no worries.

So, you're saying that I won't be getting beaten at lightspeed by 15 year-olds in an RTS for at least another 6-9 months? Whew.

Guess I have time to continue to not care.

I have several orginal CD's of Starcraft (due to co-hosting LANs and cheap store prices) and they all work fine.
I haven't heard from anyone that they had troubles with running Starcraft - on any PC system (recent (Vista) or old built ones (98, XP)... haven't tried 7 yet, but shouldn't be a problem). So you with your two-year-old-machine you should be fine.

As for the hardcopy of the game, you can probably get one on a online-auction site, but also at online-warehouses (mostly known for books) generally still have it in their assortment (right now you can get the battle-chest for 18 bucks).

If they delay it to 2011, I'm going down there and nuking Blizzard hq.

If I set aside some resources now, my nuke will be ready by July of Next Year.
