Starcraft should be in the Olympics

To release some of my bottled excitement for Starcraft2, I've crawled back to nerdy Starcraft again.

I'm terrible at Starcraft, but that's besides the point. Unlike any other video game, I actually find myself watching demo's and movies covering Starcraft matches online, and they're incredibly tense and entertaining.

I can't drag myself away from watching gomtv.net at the moment, the english commentry is some of the best commentry I've ever heard.

Long live Starcraft. I believe it's practically a religion in South Korea.

I really hope that Starcraft 2 will attract more players and have the same lasting effect of the original Starcraft. The rest of the world (outside South Korea) is still waiting for a monumental video game to change the universal opinion that video games are for kids.

"Starcraft should be in the Olympics"

No. No it should not.

With all due respect, what is it we are discussing here?
I don't see any questions or anything.

Umm... what? The thread title is bad, considering it has nothing to do with the fallacy that a video game would be in the Olympics, and the opinion that games are for kids has been changed to games are the last things children should be playing.
Get with the times.

I should be in the Olympics!

I like Starcraft alot, I even watch those battle reports they doing of SC2, but...its really really hard for me to get excited with a guy Zerg Rushing a Protoss base...and SC2 even if it will be a great game it won't change no ones opinion to games.

The Olympics are about physical sports. They don't play chess at the Olympics, either. Remember the motto: "Swifter, higher, stronger."

We could always change the motto to

"YOU MUST CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PYLONS."

Games are toys, toys are for children.

We're meant to be discussing Starcraft. Duh.

I'd prefer to discuss Starcraft than "best hairstyle in a computer game" random polls.

Seriously, Starcraft doesn't get enough credit in the western world imo.

Games are a medium, just like films and books, and have evolved far beyond being mere toys. Ofcourse toy games are still being made, but far from all games are just toys. I won't call Bioshock a toy, or Assassin's Creed, or Call of Duty, just to name some.

*ahem*

Anyway, it's true that the Olympics are for physical sports, not electronic sports or games like chess.

I lol'd. Seriously. Were not talking about some annual state championship here. It's the olympics. Simply the greatest Athletes in the world. Emphasis on the word Athletes. That is all.

I laughed so hard I think I just peed a little

@OP: The Olympics are sports and events that people attend to perfect their physical skills. I'm afraid lots of sitting down and sweet micromanagement don't really come into this definition

Oh, you guys thought I was seriously suggesting Starcraft should be in the Olympics... I think that title just has a better ring than "More people should be talking about Starcraft".

It would be the only sport that being a genetic freak hopped up Roids would give you no advantage.

What a nice, ignorant statement. Of course, it's not like the most popular games are 18+, no. Every popular game is 3+.

Meet Old Grandma Hardcore. And cry. She plays only the most hardcore games there are.

You want more people to talk about a game that came out in what... 1998? While we're at it why don't we make some threads talking about Grim Fandango, The Curse of Monkey Island and Lylat Wars? Sure, they were all rad games, but just because a bunch of Koreans somewhere are still (probably, I know GF still has a pretty big following, and I play it once a year or so) playing it does not mean any of them are worthy of their own pointless threads.

Good day, sir.
